Mamoon how do you see Sharjeel going in against Australia in this ODI Series?
We'll likely get
Sharjeel
Azhar (C)
Babar
Shafiq
Akmal
Malik
Sarfraz (WK)
Imad
Riaz
Amir
Irfan
Don't agree with Shafiq and I think he ruins the whole line up
Shafiq at ODI should only bat at 3
But Babar shouldn't move
I'd rather Umar at 4 instead of Shafiq
and 6 is too high for Malik, he should be at 5.
Surprised we have no Hafeez.
Don't expect much from us in the ODI format, Aus are a far better side, we'd be lucky to win 1 game to be honest.
Bowling/Batting is weak.
He might get a couple of 50+ scores. He has been impressive, played well in England as well without any big score. The thing with Sharjeel is that it is going to be very difficult for him to play a big innings against top opposition because they will eventually work him out. He still needs to evolve and adapt as a batsman, but he is a must in Limited Overs.
Even if he lasts for 4-5 overs, it will help the team get off to a flying start because as long as he at the crease, he will score runs. Very hard to bog him down.
Got any names of these bowlers?
Considering he has been selected for Test Squad and also has shown more to his game in the West Indies ODI Series, Do you think he could further improve his game and be a better batsman? I saw Sharjeel play for the first time back in 2011, He had super hand eye and gifted timing even back then
Theoretically, it should. It is the next step in his development as a batsman at this level, but we have to be patient with him. He was dropped prematurely in the first place and if he is dropped prematurely from the Test squad, it will not help his long-term prospects at all.
Arthur and Inzamam are not on one page.
If 35 years old Irfan and 37 years old Malik can make Pakistan team than why can't 33 years old Sohail and 36 years old Hafeez ?
Malik has been overall terrific in last 2 years but Hafeez has been excellent aswell. So why pick one ?

I think you can only have one of Shohaib or Hafeez, not both. Shohaib has tonnes of experience playing in Australia in bbl. but I'm disappointed not to see Hafeez in LOI. He is ripe for knicking behind but still earns his place in LOI if you look at past performances.
I am fine with Asad Shafiq getting another chance because in last two tours he has hardly played 2 matches I guess. So he needs atleast 3-5 Odi's.
But the thing to which article points out is :
1. Agreement of Selection committee and team management over Hafeez and than last minute ommision of Hafeez.
2. Asad making a entry to the Odi squad in last moments.
3. Inzamam wanting Kamran Akmal and Arthur saying No.
So there are alot of disagreements and give and take.
I think Asad deserves his chance after his Brisbane performance. Given that he's the nucleus of the team going forward should play at least two formats to develop his game.
Kami is a no no.
But Hafeez dropped at last min I can understand.

There is a difference. Malik knew tests were not his piece of cake and rightfully retired to concentrate in LOIs. Hafeez in the other hand keeps continuing to play as opener in tests. He did well at no.3 in LOIs after being steyns bunny, but he is reluctant to move down the order to no.5 or 6 or even no.3 in tests to hide from facing new ball in the opening slot and it has cost him his place in the ODIs too. Hafeez so called professor not proactive enough to save his career. Now after Babar settling at no.3 hafeez has to compete with Malik/nawaz or Imad.
Has Hafeez showed team management or selectors his non-willingness to bat at number 6 ?
I don't think so.
As per dawn article both team management and selectors were at one page that He will and should be picked but at last moment his name was ommitted which is questionable.
If age is not a matter than Hafeez can do better than Rizwan or Nawaz at number 6 and bowl cheap 10 overs aswell.
One cannot and should not relate Hafeez's Test troubles with his Odi performances. Yes Babar has performed quite well but this does not mean than Hafeez's Average of 45 and SR of 85 in last two years should be ignored as now we found Babar because the fact is that you are number 8 or number 9 (whatever) and you aren't selecting better replacements for Hafeez nor Hafeez was the main reason for you becoming number 9. Add to that Hafeez getting his action cleared and taking 11 wickets at Eco of 4.58 his ommission is baffling. I would go as far as to say that even woth Rizwan, Asad, Umar & Nawaz we could have selected Hafeez in place of Rahat Ali.
Shocking decision by Inzi to not select Hafeez.
Inzi is turning out to be a worse selector than he was a batsman is his last few years.
We know Hafeez will bat in the top 3, preferably at #3 where he's gotten most of his ODI success.
Who should he replace in the playing XI? Should Babar move down the order to accommodate him?
Hafeez is not captain or VC. If the captain and coach ask him to bat down the order then he has to comply, otherwise he can go home.
It is easy to say that Hafeez wants to bat in the top order therefore he bats there, but he could never have done without the compliance of the captains and coaches he has played under.

Tell me where he fits in this batting lineup.
Sharjeel
Azhar
Babar
Sarfraz
Malik
Akmal
Imad
Let's be realistic and assume that Azhar's spot is nailed down as he is captain.
Why do you want Hafeez in the side ? He averaged 31 in the recent Departmental One Day Cup. Everyone knows his struggles outside Asia. You were only just recently after the England tour demanding he be kicked out of the team.
If its for his off-spin, offies tend to struggle in Australia.
My ideal batting order for this ODI series:
Sharjeel
Azhar
Babar
Sarfaraz
Malik
Akmal
Hafeez
Imad
Hassan
Amir
Wahab
And don't give me the bahana that in Australia we can't play two spinners, our pacers are no where near quality of other sides. Amir and Wahab are just there because they are better than the likes of Irfan and Rahat. Hassan is the only one who is somewhat better the rest. Imad and Hafeez both bowl with good economy and added benefit is that they both spin it in different directions.
KARACHI: Pakistan’s experienced all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez’s name was mysteriously omitted from the ODI squad that was announced to face Australia Down Under despite all parties agreeing to his induction including the tour selection committee and the national selection committee led by Inzamam ul Haq, Dawn learnt from reliable sources.
Hafeez, who is allowed to bowl again in international cricket after getting clearance for his action from ICC, has also completely recovered from his knee injury and that is why the touring selection committee convinced chief selector Inzamam to include his name in the final squad.
However, a day later when the ODI team was announced, Hafeez’s name was not there which came as complete surprise to many.
“It is surprising that the national selection committee omitted Hafeez’s name at the last moment despite principally agreeing to it as he could have proved to be an important player against Australia,” a team official told Dawn on condition of anonymity.
“He is bowling again and his value increases greatly because he is a very difficult bowler in shorter formats and with Australia having left-handers in their line-up, he could have been more than handy. Even when he was banned from bowling, Hafeez remained an important contributor so his omission despite unanimous understanding between all stakeholders leaves a big question mark.”
The important stakeholders around the national team have, apparently, not been on the same page and the differences clearly emerged at the time of finalisation of Pakistan’s ODI squad.
The numbers suggest that Hafeez has been a star performer for the Pakistan in the ODIs.
In the last four years Hafeez has topped the charts for most runs in ODIS — amassing 2609 runs in 69 matches at an average of 41.41 with as many seven hundreds and 14 half-centuries.
In the same period, only Ahmad Shahzad has scored four tons while three each has been scored by one-day skipper Azhar Ali and Babar Azam, who wrote himself into record books with three consecutive centuries against West Indies in a recent series, besides the two registered by Sarfaraz Ahmad.
Considering the last two years, only Azhar Ali (1116) and Sarfaraz (1043) have outscored Hafeez, who has 948 runs for 24 matches averaging 41.21 with two centuries and six fifties. He missed major part of 50-over cricket in 2016 — four matches against England and three versus West Indies -- with knee injury as he could only play four matches in which he made 166 runs with an average of 41.50.
Hafeez is said to be shocked at the omission and plans to meet Inzamam soon to know the reasons for his snub despite doing well for Pakistan in ODIs for last several years.
Meanwhile the other talking point between the team management and the selectors was regarding the selection of Kamran Akmal as the selectors wanted to include the senior player after a stellar run in domestic season.
However, head coach Arthur resisted Kamran’s inclusion as he wanted to induct youngsters to build the team for future.
Similarly, middle-order batsman Asad Shafiq’s name was added to the ODI squad at the last moment by the selectors.
Some of the senior players of the team are unhappy with Arthur’s dealing and methods as they feel that he is trying to force his ideology on the players while his public shaming of players is dubbed as childish.
“We all saw what happened to theAustralian team when Arthur was their coach and you see similar sort of pattern emerging with Pakistan team as well. He (Arthur) wants to get rid of the seniors while his statements regarding likes of Mohammad Irfan and Sohail Khan have been totally uncalled for given his post. What he should be doing or saying behind doors is being done in front of camera and this leads to bad blood in the dressing room,” a senior player of Pakistan team stated.
“The head coach completely loses his cool when the team fails and whatever he says in the heat of the moment really hurts the players. After whatever he did to Irfan on the England tour when he had developed cramps due to jet leg was appalling. So how can he earn his respect in the ODIs?”

Arthur is telling it like it is. What is he saying that's untrue about Sohail's poor fitness, Imran's lack of effectiveness on flatter wickets and Irfan's poor fitness ?“We all saw what happened to theAustralian team when Arthur was their coach and you see similar sort of pattern emerging with Pakistan team as well. Whoever this crybaby player speaking off the record is should examine his own performances and develop a thicker skin.
