What's new

Pakistan & Sri Lanka share one point after their World Cup match is abandoned due to wet outfield

Weather's bad today with yellow warning don't think there will be a game today

In 1992 world, Pakistan lost the first match to West Indies, won the second and third was washed off. So if there is anything called history is repeating itself, we are not going to see any match today.

From a comment at cricinfo.

Trying to take the credit lol?

It's really frustrating when matches where Pak can lose go on uninterrupted, while the one's which they have better chances of winning, get washed out.

Latest we can start game for a 20 over match is 4.15pm... so thats 5 hrs 45 mins away .. but rain has to stop well before then to giv time to sweep up and also cnt rain again

I wanted to see cricket had no other plans for the day even planned my meetings accordingly this is so sad.

There could be all 4 teams on the same points and what if Pakistan has another washout say against Afghanistan ?

England prob wasn’t the best place for this format with no reserve days .

Then they should reflect on their horrendous humiliating and embarrassing performance against the Windies. Weather is out of their control, that loss to the Windies wasn't.

Its a wrap I dont think rain will allow any play today. I had tickets for this game and decided not to bother.

People have been crying for rain and wash out for a week. How were you making plans?

ok sorry but i can't stop myself from posting this 92 ref :yk

So far it's going just like 92 :)) first match lost, second won, third rain

Weather is very unpredictable, and if I think about rain when the world cup is played in England, I will miss out on most matches.

this is getting depressing by the minute. the foreacst for tomrorow is bright and sunny now.

Thursday and Saturday rain stayed away, only had to come down today!

In that Case
Pakistan lost to West Indies
Won against England
Rained out vs Srilanka
Will lose to Australia
Will lose to India
Win against South Africa
Win against New Zealand
Win against Afghanistan
Win against Bangladesh

I am going to start betting :butt

Lol, rain happens, get over it. If Pakistan win their remaining matches (they might even be able to lose 1 match), they'll make the semis.

So we are going to lose to Australia and Indian then beat South Africa, new Zealand, Bangla and Afghanistan ?

I can't see Pakistan beating New Zealand unless it's a spinners wicket. New Zealand bowling attack will be too good for them if there's any swing or seam for Boult, Henry & Ferguson. They better hope for a flat/dry/spinners track.

You are correct my friend. I have a feeling Hasnain will perform in the finals like Wasim and Asif Ali will be the Inzamam.

By this table Bangladesh should play in SF againast Pakistan :D

A little difference: there were 9 teams and 8 matches for each team before SF in 92 :yk now it's 10 teams and 9 matches each

If this does happen, we will likely rely on net RR to get through .... Unless the unlikely event of both NZ and West Indies ending up with 8-10 points.

Australia match will be washed out too.

So I am assuming we will get 2 points from 2 games.

Fair.

We were going to lose to Australia most likely and win vs SRL.

That would balance things out, though I really want to see Pakistan play Australia ...

Where did you get information that Australia match will be washed out ?
Evidence ?

Also forecast is showing rain clearing around mid day. But forecast for a few showers around 4pm but they cud miss us aswell. So lets hope the forecast clears by 12 and we can get a game in as cut of is 4.15pm..

If there is rain like this we will be suffered because of that mediocre performances against WI. Our RR dropped huge because of that match.
That's why we have to be serious from match 1 not in the middle of the tournament and wait for good luck to go to semi.

If they can dry the ground quick enough, we could get a T20 in from 2pm to 6pm.

I have seen people making references to 92 in every tournament and it didn't work. can't find excitement in the similar patterns anymore.

No bro, maybe a few hours ago. It’s raining now consistently, just saw the live video feed shown on Sky Sports.

The rain will not clear for another 2 hours. Then you need 2 hours to dry but bigger problem there will be more heavy showers that are forecast to hit later.

Basically barring the miracles of miracles there will be no game.

Even if we start at 3pm a game could be put in. Only caveat is we miss the 4pm expected rain. If we miss that then hopefully there can be a game. Fingers crossed.

it is really terrible luck.

Rain was predicted from Thursday 7pm to Saturday night and only part they get right is the match time!

the odds of that, man.

If it's a T20 type game, Pakistan should bowl first, try and blast Sri Lanka away as fast as possible, and then try and chase it down before it starts raining again.

Must every thread continuously reference 1992 guys?

I mean it was nearly 30 years ago now. Yawn.

Forecast updated

50/50 chance of rain from 2pm - 3pm. 1pm rain likelihood downgraded from >95% to 80%.

Didn't see you this active last Tuesday. Or is your appearance only limited to taking silly digs at the Pakistan cricket team? :inti

It was just for fun while waiting for the rain to stop i guess you missed the smileys. Learn to take jokes bro

Ok I understand it's raining, why can't they go under an Umbrella and go for the toss? After the toss wait for another 30 minutes :inti

Looking at the clouds bove, my gut feel tells me rain to stop in 30 mins. Just saying

Why can't they arrange indoor cricket is there is raining possibilities? I am sure like Australia England has few Indoor cricket stadium.

What is the likelihood of a T20 game? or even that's beyond possible now?

It's possible if the 2pm showers don't hit, and they can dry the ground quick enough. Don't think they can fit a full T20 in, but game on if Pakistan bowl first, get them out fast, and then chase fast.

am looking out of my hotel window. I think this match will be called off in the next 20-30 mins

MEt office saying 2pm will be clear over Bristol, and then lots of passing showers. We will need to be super lucky for those to miss

Have to feel for Sri Lanka as well if this is rained out. They basically can only afford to lose another 2 more games.

Why couldn't ICC just change the venue of the match when there was a clear cut weather forecast for consistent rains at Bristol After all it's a WC game and really matters.
Think out of box!!
Kashmiri fan

Only thing is if you look at the Map, with a bit of luck Bristol can avoid all rain after 2pm, just need God to smile on us for a little bit

I don't think gods care much about cricket games do they? I'd have thought they'd care more for disasters and poverty.

Big blow for both teams if washout, this was a match where both would have wanted to get 2 points.

Need some luck. If the 3pm rain can be avoided, and 5pm rain comes late, then we might get a game.

so bascically its rain from 9am to 7pm exactly the match time. Sunny before, sunny after. Wow

It's not at all uncommon to have bad weather during the day, only for it to start clearing in the evening. Funny place this planet.

Trust me when I say the weather wasn't informed about the cricket.
