Pakistan & Sri Lanka share one point after their World Cup match is abandoned due to wet outfield

I actually predicted a Sri Lankan win against Pakistan which I would call an ‘upset’ given I consider Pakistan tournament favourites now.
 
Not living anywhere close to Bristol, but if history is to be gone by, no rain from 2pm for an hour would not give enough time to the groundsmen to sop the ground and make conditions ready for play.

I doubt any play will happen if at all.
 
Not bad though.

I do not mind picking up a point here.

Pakistan are too unpredictable.

In a rain hit pitch and conditions, I do not trust our batting or mindset to perform.

Take the point and go back to training tomorrow.

its a matter of time. I think they are all waiting till 2pm to see if the rain actually clears up.

Just saw outside, rained us eased up considerably right now. Not zero, but its rain that would not stop a cricket match. Clouds above also look whiter, however forecast still looks bleak. If it stays like this for 30 mins will head to the ground, who knows!
 
yep rain is back and harder than before.

Have a 3pm Avengers show at the cinema next to the hotel, might head there instead!

Because ICC messed up sending out the tickets, so 1000s of people had to wait in line. By the time we got in Pakistan was all out! ICC decided to refund for their mess up.

UK is probably the most unreliable place to play cricket. The weather rekt Australia's chances in the CT17, and it looks like it will cause similar damage to a few teams in this World Cup too.

the clouds like whiter, but its raining quite hard now. Also on the horizon you can see lots and lots of rain clouds. As much as I want a t20 game, i doubt even a ball will be bowled today.
 
I still cant get over the fact that rain so perfecly overlapped with this game. One hour before the game no rain. One hour after expected match end time, there is no rain expected. Its clear this was never meant to be!
 
Wasn't expecting any play at all since I saw the forecast 2 daays ago. Was so sure today's game wouldn't happen wasn't even fussed about getting up early and was even making plans for today. We won't get a game. I'm not even checking for updates.
 
they were predciting a break in rain at 2pm, if anything is raining harder!

ICC please call it off so I can go wath avengers
 
Pakistan are favorite against lanka but you never know, 1 point is still better than 0
 
Can't drop points to Sri Lanka. This is terrible for Pakistan.

Can only afford one more loss now - with Australia, India, NZ, South Africa, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to come.
 
okay, this is teasing now, rain is not gone, but slowest its been since 9am. I feel if rained is not completely stopped in the next 30 mins they must call it off
 
If match against Aus is a washout ( huge chance), it will offset the disadvantage caused by this washout. Regardless this is very frustrating and could hamper more teams.
 
stupid ENglish weather. This is such a key variable in England. It could potentially impact a lot of things. NRR, points.

First fans were praying that 1 point against poor sri lankan side is not good enough. Now all of a sudden if there is a hope of reduced 20 over match, people are saying that Pradeep will rip apart Pakistan batting.

So so strange. Never happy i guess, whether there is match nor no match.
 
I want Semi-finals, Final and all the reserve days for those games to be washed out if we don't get to the semis due to rain.
 
If rain has stopped. We need it stay stopped and 2nd is if groundsman have enough time to prepare ground before cut of at 4.19pm

I would be far happier playing a full 50 over game as I think Pakistan is comfortably the better side. The shorter games are obviously more of a lottery, especially if you have a couple of sloggers in your team, which Pakistan doesn't.

Pakistan might have one foot in the SF if this match happens. They could get bonus 1 point against Aus.

What was the logic behind having a World Cup in England beginning at the end of May???

1. The weather is like a lottery.
2. Icc wants to spread the game but almost all teenagers are sitting exams, whether it's GCSE's or A Levels or end of year UNI Exams...

July would have been the ideal month to play the World Cup - better still mid July to mid august.

Pak is a very good T20 side so should play like one if the match goes ahead, but knowing Pakistan they get pressurized quickly when something unexpected is dawn on them. Pak current fast bowlers would be more wayward than Sril Lanka's for shorter game.

This is what I was thinking as well. I know they have to play Ashes this year but, Ashes could have been played before the World Cup, as rain ruined odd days in test matches are not as significant as a world cup matches.
 
Just play T20 match now and get the result. Why wait for the rain. Keep it to minimum overs. I hope we lose the toss and let srl do what they want.

Asif Ali must be sent as opener in a shortened game could be the dofference between a low score or a cracking start
 
if it ends up being a T20 game then Pakistan are favorites as they are one of the best T20 teams. I wouldn't have played Imam in a T20 game though but i guess it is too late to change the lineup

Anyone in the stadium give us an update on the weather atm. Are the clouds breaking up and clearing or is it still very gloomy with no rain
 
In a shortened game, play this lineup:

Fakhar Zaman
Babar Azam
Mohammad Hafeez
Sarfraz Ahmed*+
Shoaib Malik
Asif Ali
Imad Waism
Shadab Khan
Mohammad Amir
Mohammad Hasnain
Shaheen Shah Afridi

Bowl first, get them our cheaply, and chase it down before the rain comes back.
 
Oh if that's the case then they should definitely have Imam sit this one out. Haris sohail or Imad should be in.
 
Amir will be lethal in these conditions, I would probably play Husnain too and drop Imam - promote Asif and Babar as we are only playing a 20-25 over game so no need for a big batting line up!!

Aussies and English consider Ashes more important than any other cricket.
 
Amir will be very effective in these conditions, as will Shaheen. I reckon also give Hasnain a shot, Lankans will struggle against his pace.
