Pakistan & Sri Lanka share one point after their World Cup match is abandoned due to wet outfield

In a shortened game, play this lineup:

Fakhar Zaman
Babar Azam
Mohammad Hafeez
Sarfraz Ahmed*+
Shoaib Malik
Asif Ali
Imad Waism
Shadab Khan
Mohammad Amir
Mohammad Hasnain
Shaheen Shah Afridi

Bowl first, get them our cheaply, and chase it down before the rain comes back.

Will not have two rookies bowling Hasan Ali will replace one in above line up

yeah, def need to bowl first. You never know if it rains again and D/L screws things over.

Imam will not be left out and in overcast conditions he will tuk tuk like no tomorrow.

Aussies and English consider Ashes more important than any other cricket.

I know that but as its test matches rain would have ruined just odd days of test matches not whole match. Test matches can be finished in 4 days on average now.

It will most probably rain again in a couple of hours. So don't know whether we will even get a 20 over match or not.

It would be very difficult to get a team out in less than 20 overs. Even Pakistan played more than 20 overs against windies.

Generally, yes. But in these conditions, against SL, and keeping in mind that it's practically a T20, I would back the Pakistani bowlers. Get Parera early, and attack the rest.

The forecast shows 50% chances of rain, what does that even mean? It will either rain or stay dry? Isn’t that the case always?

Means exactly that, 50/50 chance that it will rain. Let's hope it doesn't!

Google Weather looks more promising than MetOffice and BBC.

Imam should definitely play if we get a 20 overs game. The ball will nip around and it's almost certainly going to be a low scoring game. You need players who can grind it out in these type of conditions.

Why can't they play just a 6 over per side match as the rain is likely to return in two hours or so. It will take just one hour and we will have a result. That would keep everyone happy too.

If its 20 overs ...then one team will have to play 20 overs to constitute a match?

What about second inns?...
after how many overs does D and L come into action?

They wouldn't do that because the venue would have to refund everyone as 20 overs wouldn't have been bowled

In actual T20's the 2nd team has to bat Minimum 5 overs to get a result on Duckworth Lewis.
But it is 5o overs match so that rule will not apply.

20 overs are minimum in ODIs.

I’m an hour away , it stopped here but started raining again , heavy for a few mins and now drizzle . By the time outfield is ready , high chance of more rain .

Not going to bother going to the ground .

Next inspection is in 30 min, might start raining again by then. I don't understand why the game takes hours to start when they are suppose to have world renowned drainage system.

Really hope thers no more rain. As even a heavy shower for 10 mins or drizzle for 30 mins will wash match out

20 overs game will bring SL into the game. Their batting is not too good for 50 overs. so T20 gives them a chance to compete and with SL bowling I'd say it could be anybody's game. Pakistan will have to do really really well to win here. conditions suits SL.

IF You Need ICC to Start taking Rain issues more seriously than Pray and Hope that India
suffers in one of their crucial games due to rain or get knocked out of ICC WC

than the Hue and cry will ensure Revolutionary methods for Rains affected matches be introduced

They have Light Towers What stops them for Converting it into a Day/night match
surely Broadcasters will not loose any revenues

it's shame the drainage system is so poor here. Half innings could have completed before the next burst of rain.

This same thing happened in CT17 as well. Australia were very very badly effected, otherwise they would have made semis ahead of Bangladesh.

I hope this time we do not become the Australia of CT17.

That's what puzzles me as well. Why not give extra time to complete a game if there is rain? not full day but they could extend play few hours more to make sure a result. This is a world cup game not some bilateral. Really poor stuff.

Agree 100%

Pakistan team players are coming onto the field now, early reports are it will be 22 Over match, if there is no further rain.

To be honest, rain did deprive them of the surety of the semis but they lost the do or die match against England.

IIRC they were well on their way to a win against some side and then it rained out, so they lost a point there.

They did get wrecked, but they lost the do-or-die game against England quite convincingly.

If Pakistan gets knocked out here because of rain, the disastrous defeat against the Windies will justify it.

Even in baseball if there’s a rain out for league games they continue it the next day..this is the World Cup we are talking about here...

More from our spy at the ground, "I'm not sure what's happening right now. The groundsmen are just waiting by the square that's covered. Are we waiting for conditions to improve by themselves at 15:15? Not sure. Hardly any activity as I see."

More suspicious behaviour by ICC. So the weather is perfect for playing cricket yet they are delaying for no reason and the pretext of drying the ground isn't correct either since the groundsmen aren't doing anything.

We're the World's #1 t20 side. We need to beat Sri Lanka.

Anyone thinking a washout would be good is either a troll, or completely lacks any heart.

LETS GET THIS ACTION.

Damn. I didn't even put any Pakistan players in my fantasy team as I was so sure today would be a wash out. From last 2 days wasn't even looking forward to today as I was SO certain it would be washed out. And seeing people's posts today on social media just confirmed that so I'm in a shock that a game is possible tbh. Kind of threw me off guard a bit.

Doesnt matter what we think, Rain will have a final say.

I guess you are talking about Aussies Vs Kiwis in CT 2017. Than actually Kiwis were in slightly strong
position with Australia Chasing a D/L Target of 253 in 33 overs and they were 53/3 in 9 overs

however the larger point is with so much of money flowing in coffers surely they can cover an entire
god damn ground so we don't have this drama of Pitch inspection and can get on with game the moment
rain stops

Preference is to not play. If we win we still have to win 4 games because of our run rate. ( Or 3 plus a washout)
If we lose, we will need to win more than 4 games cos of crap run rate.
If it rains , we still need 4 wins.
Y risk it. If SL win the toss it will be tough

As if India has never suffered due to rain. They had to share a Champions Trophy after Sri Lanka made a paltry 230. But keep crying..

Pathetic stuff from umpires and overall process here, wasted about 45 mins of cricket. When it stops rianing u get out there right away and not start scheduling inspection times, you take a more proactive approach

Really hope the forecasted showers for later dont come and mess it up. Pray for the showers to just miss bristol so we can get result out of game

Guys lets cheer up, Rain in the past have benefited Pakistan most of the times.
1) 1992 World cup match v England, when Pak were bowled out for 74.
2) West Indies v India Test Match in August 2016 was washed out and Pakistan got ICC Test Mace
3) Pakistan clash v South Africa in 2017 ICC Champs Trophy.

Ugh. I do not like a 50 over tournament being played like a T20.
I do not like ODIs to be shorter than 35-40 overs.

They should keep extra days to make up the game. When the games are played in a country with high precipitation.

We need to rack up points against weak sides. It's far too early to project the final standings. All the big boys will take two points of Sri Lanka - this would be a point lost to the field if we don't play.

I really hope the team management is not thinking along those lines. We play for a chance to get two points, which will help us going forward. If Sri Lanka wins, so be it.

Here come the umpires ... followed by cheers. They are checking around the periphery of the square for damp patches. It's gotten brighter as the umpires now get talking to the groundsman ... looks like they want to fix a specific patch.

So groundsmen were chilling and now umps come out and they are not happy with a specific area. Very very suspicious behaviour.

It's going to start raining again at 5pm local time.

No point wasting everyone's time, just abandon the match

Can someone please explain to me where all the over confidence has come from?

We have lost the last 11 out of 12 games.

The confidence comes from the fact that SL barely got through Afg by the skin of their teeth and they suffered a 10 wicket loss to NZ who were chasing a paltry 130 odd.

We could have had 15 overs by now. So disappointing.

I know, it’s so stupid that you can’t play as soon as the rain stops. There needs to be a better system for such situations.
