Pakistan stands with Palestine

We back Palestine, not sure if we endorsed HAMAS here or not.
I think we should encourage a proper political leadership of Palestine that doesn’t resort to questionable tactics.

Pak Ambassadors speech at the UN was one of the very best. No being sensitive, just straight honest deep points.

The problem is the Pak army will never go against Israel with Munir at the head, he is most likely compromised so will follow his masters in Washington

Pakistan told in a UN meeting Friday that an immediate ceasefire was critical to meet immense needs in the besieged Gaza, and called on Israel to stop its ongoing "genocide" of Palestinian people.

"We cannot mince our words; we have to tell the Israelis: stop the genocide," Ambassador Munir Akram said during a briefing on the 'Humanitarian Situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory'.

UN Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Griffiths, fresh from the war-torn region, and Lynn Hastings, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, were among those who briefed the member states about the latest developments in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Both the officials called for humanitarian ceasefire to ensure safe delivery of food, fuel and other essential items.

In his remarks, the Pakistani envoy said that the Israelis, having suffered the Holocaust, were now committing the "modern genocide" against the Palestinians, and "we must call it for what it is". In this regard, he called for respecting and adhering to the international humanitarian law that forbids attacks on civilians and civilian objects.

"Let us, as the international community, adhere to what the General Assembly has said. Let us adhere to what the international humanitarian law says," Ambassador Akram said.

"This is what we expect from all those who are leading the United Nations, all those who are speaking for the conscience of the international community."

The Pakistani envoy said that the deadly Israeli strikes against schools, hospitals and civilian sites in Gaza on the pretext that there were military targets in those facilities were a gross violation of international law and norms as well as a "collective punishment" of a helpless people.

"Where does international law justify this?" Ambassador Akram asked, pointing that under the terms of that law civilian sites and facilities, especially the hospitals, cannot be targeted. "Even if there was a target, a military target that which is not proven; How did the Israelis ever prove that any of the schools that they (Israelis) have bombed; any of the hospitals that they have destroyed; any of the refugee camps which they have bombarded, has Israel proved that there was a military target remotely? There they are doing this as collective punishment," he added.

Responding to Canadian Envoy Robert Rae's call for a humanitarian truce, Ambassador Akram said that the General Assembly has already called for a truce, leading to the cessation of hostilities.

But, he said that a call for a humanitarian "pause" to allow the Israelis to stop for five minutes and then bomb the Palestinians again, was contrary to international humanitarian law; to the obligations of international humanitarian law, a violation of the obligation that they have undertaken as parties to all the international humanitarian conventions -- a violation by taking that position.

The Pakistani envoy also countered Canada's call for the release of Israeli hostages, but not the thousands of Palestinians arbitrarily arrested and kept in Israeli prisons, saying, "Talk about that, too."

The briefing session opened with a moment of silence for all those who have lost their lives since the start of the conflict on 7 October and those being held against their will in the region.

"What we've seen unfold over the last 26 days in Israel and in the Occupied Territories is nothing short of what I think I would call a blight on our collective conscience," said Griffiths, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator. "All of us, we are all somehow involved in this."

Griffiths recalled that 1,400 Israelis have been killed and nearly 9,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, though the true number will only be known after the rubble is cleared in Gaza. The desolation there reminded him of the early days of the Syrian war "where we saw towns like Homs razed to the ground".

More than 1.5 million people are now displaced and nearly 600,000 are crowded in shelters run by the UN agency that assists Palestine refugees, UNRWA, which has lost 72 staff members. He believed this marked the highest loss ever of UN staff in conflict.

LAHORE: Tens of thousands of supporters from Pakistan’s main religious political party rallied in the eastern city of Lahore on Sunday against Israel’s bombing of Palestinians in Gaza and what it said is the world’s failure to protect Gazans.

Amid anti-Israeli and anti-American slogans the emotionally charged crowd also called for holy war.

Earlier this month, Jamaat-e-Islami held massive rallies in the port city of Karachi and the capital, Islamabad.

Supporters, including women and children, marched for several kilometers (miles) to reach the location of the rally, holding banners and posters with slogans opposing Israel and the United States and in support of the Palestinians.

Senator Sirajul Haq, the JI chief, said the ongoing rallies in support of Palestinians around the world awaken world governments and give a voice to the innocent.

Pakistan ready to airlift, treat injured Palestinians in Gaza: FM Jilani

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Foreign Minister (FM) Jalil Abbas Jilani on Friday asserted that Pakistan is ready to airlift and treat injured Palestinians in the country, lamenting Israel’s hindrance in providing humanitarian assistance, ARY News reported.

The foreign minister made these remarks while responding to notice raised by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed in the Senate. The notice sought details on what efforts Pakistan was doing related to Gaza escalation and to end Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians.

FM Jilani informed the Senate that Pakistan had actively engaged in ending the Gaza crisis and resolution of the Palestine issue.

Highlighting Pakistan’s contributions, he said, “Pakistan, along with Saudi Arabia, co-sponsored the OIC extraordinary session of foreign ministers held last month in Jeddah, and the extraordinary session of OIC was also held in Jeddah due to efforts of Pakistan”.

He said Pakistan played a crucial role among the eight foreign ministers who collaborated on a unanimous document during the OIC summit.

“Pakistan played a pivotal role in the passage of the resolution presented by Jordan at the United Nations, garnering support from numerous countries,” the foreign minister revealed.

FM Jilani revealed that Pakistan was in contact with Egyptian and Jordanian authorities to provide Palestinian humanitarian assistance. “Unfortunately, Israel is currently hindering the delivery of aid to Gaza,” he noted.

He further said that Pakistan had also extended offers of medical assistance, including airlifting Palestinians to Pakistan and establishing a hospital in Gaza, but “Israel had not granted permission for these initiatives”.

“There is no doubt that Israel has committed aggression against Palestinians. In fact, it amounts to genocide against the innocent people of Palestine. The situation in Gaza is dire, with a severe lack of water, health facilities, and food, leading to a major humanitarian crisis,” he pointed out.

Condemning Israel for war crimes in Gaza, he urged, “Israel must be held responsible for these actions, and we call upon the international community to focus on the Palestine issue and play a decisive role in ending the crisis”.

The foreign minister also express hope that the pressure exerted by OIC countries on Israel will yield positive outcomes.

Mufti Taqi Usmani vows Gaza war until Palestine is liberated from Israeli control

Renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani has boldly asserted that the relentless Gaza war will persist as an unwavering symbol of resistance until the oppressive Israeli occupation of Palestine is brought to an unequivocal end. Addressing the prestigious Ittehad Ummat Conference, Mufti Taqi Usmani emphatically rejected the notion of a two-state solution, fervently advocating for a resolute demand to halt the Gaza bombardment instead of meekly calling for a mere ceasefire.

Usmani passionately denounced Israel’s callous disregard for moral values in its Gaza operations, underscoring the steadfast commitment of Hamas to continue its valiant struggle until the sacred liberation of Palestine is achieved.

Hamas calls for Pakistan support against Israel

The senior political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, on Wednesday said that if Israel faced resistance from Pakistan, the perpetration of cruelty could cease.

He addressed the National Dialogue on 'The Sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Responsibility of the Muslim Ummah' virtually.

The event took place at the Jinnah Convention Centre, organized by Majlis Ittehad-e-Ummah Pakistan. Haniyeh sought Pakistan's support against Israeli occupation and highlighted the challenges faced by the Palestinian people.

During his address, Haniyeh emphasized that Israel's actions, including the arrest of approximately 16,000 Palestinians and desecration of holy sites, were in violation of international norms.

He expressed disappointment over the non-implementation of the Oslo Accords, citing an increase in the occupation of Palestinian territories. Haniyeh warned against the establishment of diplomatic relations between Islamic countries and Israel, asserting that it would severely damage the Palestinian cause.

Praising Pakistan as a brave nation, he suggested that if Israel faced resistance from Pakistan, the perpetration of cruelty could cease. Expressing hope in Pakistan's support, he referred to the country as a land of Mujahideen.

He highlighted the opposition to Israel among those who follow the Quran closely. Accusing America and other countries of supporting Israel, he voiced his aspiration for Israel to retreat, allowing the truth to prevail.

Haniyeh claimed that Israel had planned a sudden attack on Gaza with the intention of permanent destruction.

He justified attacks by Hamas Mujahideen as self-defence, stating they pre-empted Israel's plans for occupation. He acknowledged the high expectations Palestinians had from Pakistan and expressed confidence in the strength of the country.

He claimed that Hamas was currently countering Israel's most advanced weapons, asserting determination to succeed in thwarting Israel's intentions.

Despite casualties of over 20,000 Palestinians in the conflict, Haniyeh maintained hope in Pakistan's potential to force Israel to retreat.

Pakistan decries Security Council’s inability to demand Gaza cease-fire amid mounting Palestinian casualties

Pakistan said on Saturday it was “deeply disappointed” by the United Nations Security Council’s failure to seek an end to Israeli airstrikes and ground offensive against the residents of Gaza amid a massive loss of human life in its latest session in New York.

The session was convened a day earlier after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres invoked a rarely exercised power under Article 99 of the UN Charter, urging the Security Council to respond to the situation in the Palestinian enclave where over 17,000 people have been killed in two months.

The war began on October 7 after a surprise attack on Israel by Hamas led to nearly 1,200 casualties, with the group describing its action as a response to the deteriorating Palestinian condition under Israeli occupation.

The international community widely viewed Israel’s response as disproportionate since it resulted in the destruction of hospitals and residential neighborhoods and the killings of significant number of civilians, including women and children.

As the Security Council convened its special meeting to address the issue, the United States vetoed a resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire in the Palestinian territory.

“Pakistan is deeply disappointed that the UN Security Council has once again failed to call for a cease-fire in Gaza, even in the face of a human tragedy of epic proportions taking place there,” the foreign office said in a statement released in Islamabad. “Despite the invocation of Article-99 of the UN Charter by the Secretary-General and his warnings of humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the Council has failed to perform its primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security.”

The foreign office described the “collective punishment” endured by the besieged people of Gaza as unprecedented and unacceptable.

Islamabad under pressure to recognise Israel: Fazl

PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman claimed on Saturday that Pakistan had been facing economic pressure from different segments to recognise Israel.

Speaking at a corner meeting of party workers, he alleged that the previous PTI government had been “backed by Jews” to come to power with the agenda of “withdrawing support from Kashmir, recognising Israel and disintegrating Pakistan”.

On the Gaza conflict, the JUI-F chief said the Israeli invasion of the enclave had brought the Palestine issue to the limelight again, stressing that indiscriminate bombing of the residential population in the Gaza Strip was a war crime.

Questioning the silence of human rights champions over Israel’s barbarism, he said the US bombed Afghanistan for 20 years and still claimed to be the defender of rights, adding that the US and other Western nations had destroyed Iraq, Libya and Syria.

“They perpetuate atrocities on people and then claim to be the champions of human rights,” he said.

On the merger of tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the JUI-F chief said locals were “hoodwinked in the name of the merger”. However, the tribal people had neither been fully settled in the province nor had retained special status, he said, claiming when he opposed Fata merger, the “powers that be” told him they were being pressured by international powers to do so.

Pakistan on Monday joined the rest of the international community to strongly condemn Israel’s latest military offensive in Rafah city in Gaza, where millions have taken refuge to avoid Israeli massacre.

Despite calls even by Israel’s close allies including the United States, Benjamin Netanyahu government went ahead with the offensive.

Dozens of people, including children, were killed as “extremely intense” Israeli airstrikes and shelling pounded multiple locations in Rafah overnight Monday, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, as international alarm mounts over Israel’s planned ground offensive in the southern Gazan city.

More than 100 people were killed due to Israeli airstrikes as warplanes targeted different areas of the city and helicopters fired machine guns along the border areas, the PRCS said early Monday.

“Israel’s offensive in Rafah violates the provisional measures indicated by the International Court of Justice to protect the people of Gaza from genocide. It will further aggravate the humanitarian disaster witnessed in Gaza over the last four months and jeopardise the ongoing efforts for a potential ceasefire,” said a statement issued by the foreign office.

“We urge the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to take urgent measures to bring an immediate end to Israeli aggression and its incessant crimes against humanity,” the statement added.

Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Kingdom joined a growing list of countries to express concern over Israel’s planned offensive.

Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry warned of “very serious repercussions of storming and targeting” the city, while Qatar — a key mediator in talks between Israel and Hamas — on Sunday urged the UN’s Security Council to “prevent” Israel from committing what it described as “genocide” and warned of a “humanitarian catastrophe in the city.”

Does Pakistan Really 'Stand for Palestine'?

From literary festivals to politician-clerics, the Gaza war has ratcheted up the heat and volume of Pakistan's already inordinate hostility towards Israel. While virtue-signaling progressives and antisemitic Islamists find common ground celebrating Hamas, what are they really doing to save Palestinian lives?

The Karachi Literature Festival was held in Pakistan over the weekend under the theme 'Sustainability: Words Changing Mindsets.' Aside from now-routine criticism that the festival is "elitist and irrelevant," it should nonetheless be lauded for its admirable ambition: To change mindsets.

Very poor worded condemnation
====
Pakistan today said Israel’s occupation of Palestine is unlawful and that it must stop.

Addressing the International Court of Justice, Law Minister Ahmed Irfan Aslam said Pakistan has been led to “the conclusion that Israel’s occupation is unlawful and unlawfulness must have consequences.”

Criticising the Israeli settler policy, Aslam said that through this policy Tel Aviv creates irreversible facts on the ground which make it difficult to bring an end to its prolonged occupation.

“Its policies and practices of occupation deny the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and amount to systematic racial discrimination and serious violations of international humanitarian law and human rights,” he said, urging the UN top court to take this seriously.

He said Israel’s ongoing actions are against international law and seek to acquire Palestinian territory while killing and displacing its people.

The top UN court is currently hearing oral statements by states on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem since 1967.

Need more support though
======
The speaker of the Pakistan National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has strongly denounced Israel for its “genocide” of Palestinians, including women, children, and the elderly, state-run Radio Pakistan reported on Monday.

Sadiq was speaking at the 148th Inter-parliamentary Union Assembly being held in Geneva.

Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza has killed thousands, caused a humanitarian catastrophe and raised the chances of a wider conflict across the Middle East. The Health Ministry in Gaza said the Israeli air and ground campaign had killed more than 31,988 people and injured 74,188 by March 21. The ministry has said children under 18 make up more than 40 percent of those killed.

“Speaker expressed disappointment over inaction of the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, and called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and justice for Palestine,” Radio Pakistan said, reporting on Sadiq’s speech.

“He also expressed unwavering solidarity and pledged support for Palestinians in their just cause for a viable, independent, and contiguous state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.”

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, has said as of March 16, up to 1.7 million people, or over 75 percent of the population, had been displaced since Oct. 7 when the war began, some of them several times. More than 1 million displaced are in Rafah on Gaza’s southernmost fringe close to the boundary with Egypt.

More than 60 percent of housing units have been destroyed, along with 392 education facilities, 123 ambulances and 184 mosques, it said.

Children are dying of starvation in northern Gaza, World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X on March 4, citing a WHO team that visited two hospitals.

Famine is imminent and likely to occur by May in northern Gaza and could spread across the enclave by July, the world’s hunger watchdog, known as the Integrated Food-Security Phase Classification (IPC), said on March 18.

It said 70 percent of people in parts of northern Gaza were suffering the most severe level of food shortage, more than triple the 20 percent threshold to be considered famine. In all, 1.1 million Gazans, about half the population, were experiencing “catastrophic” shortages of food.

Pakistan has joined other nations in urging for the prompt implementation of a UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution that calls for a Ramazan ceasefire, paving the way for a lasting and sustainable peace in Gaza.

Alongside the ceasefire, the resolution underscores the necessity for the immediate, unconditional release of all prisoners. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said the resolution “must be implemented” to secure a ceasefire and the “immediate and unconditional release” of all prisoners.

Expressing solidarity with the resolution, Pakistan’s UN ambassador Munir Akram also underscored “the urgent need to expand the flow of humanitarian assistance to and reinforce the protection of civilians in the entire Gaza Strip.” The resolution “must be implemented immediately,” he said, while emphasising the need for a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza.

Calling this the first step in halting Israel’s brutal campaign in Gaza, Ambassador Akram said Pakistan would continue to work actively for a just, comprehensive, and durable solution through the establishment of a secure, viable, contiguous, and sovereign state of Palestine on the basis of the pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Speaking on behalf of the 10 elected members of the UNSC who drafted and presented the resolution, Mozambique’s envoy to the UN Pedro Comissario expressed satisfaction with its adoption and emphasised the urgency of ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all prisoners.

The E-10 group includes Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, and Switzerland.

Ambassador Comissario stressed the importance of uninterrupted humanitarian aid flow to Gaza and expressed the hope that the resolution would alleviate the suffering of Gazans and contribute to lasting peace in the Middle East.

‘Binding, mandatory’

On the other hand, the UN and some member states disputed the US assertion that the Gaza resolution was ‘non-binding’. Asked about the US characterisation of the resolution as “non-binding”, Amb Comissario affirmed that “all UN Security Council resolutions are binding and mandatory.”

“This resolution needs to be implemented immediately,” said Britain’s UN Ambassador Barbara Woodward when asked if the text was binding. “It sends a clear council message, a united council message, and we expect all council resolutions to be implemented.”

UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq also clarified at a daily news briefing that all the resolutions of the Security Council were “international law. They are as binding as international laws.”

Mark Lyall-Grant, who was the UK ambassador to the UN from 2009 to 2015, told the BBC that the resolution meant Israel was “under an obligation, essentially, to stop its military campaign for the next 15 days” of Ramazan. He added the text was legally binding on Israel but not on Hamas, as the group was not a state.

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller had earlier told a press briefing that the Gaza resolution was non-binding.

Separately, China on Tuesday welcomed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) passing a resolution that demands an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, APP reported.

“It is in line with the correct direction of the UNSC’s actions and responds to the general expectations of the international community,” Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Lin Jian said during his regular briefing while responding to a question.

To yet another question, the spokesperson said that the Security Council resolutions are binding and called on the parties concerned to fulfill their obligations under the UN Charter and to take due action as required by the resolution.

Pakistan backs call for sanctions on Israel

The UN expert who concluded Israel was committing acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip received broad support at the United Nations on Tuesday, with countries speaking up to back her and her report.

Francesca Albanese, the special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, told the UN Human Rights Council that countries should impose an arms embargo and sanctions on Israel.

Expanding in person on her report released on Monday, Albanese said Israel was characterising the entire Gazan population as "targetable, killable and destroyable", and had ostentatiously laid bare its "genocidal intent" to "rid Palestine of Palestinians".

Dozens of diplomats, mostly representing Arab and Muslim countries but also Latin America, took the floor to defend her mandate and her work.

Pakistan, speaking for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, backed her call for sanctions and an arms embargo. "We commend your courage in documenting... acts amounting to genocide in Gaza," Islamabad's representative said.

"The occupation force.s dangerous and ruthless push for a final solution to the Palestinian question is plain for all to see, as its forces encircle Rafah like vultures and its ravenous land grab continues unabated in the West Bank."

Egypt, speaking for Arab group countries, affirmed their support for Albanese's mandate and said they were gravely concerned about Israel's "structured and systematic attack to make the Gaza Strip uninhabitable".

And Qatar, on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council, thanked Albanese for her report and demanded the international community "put an end to genocide being perpetrated by the Israeli war machinery".

In her speech, Albanese told the top UN rights body that Israel had "destroyed Gaza".

"When genocidal intent is so conspicuous, so ostentatious, as it is in Gaza, we cannot avert our eyes: we must confront genocide, we must prevent it and we must punish it," she said.

"The genocide in Gaza is the most extreme stage of a long-standing settler-colonial process of erasure of the native Palestinians."

Special rapporteurs are independent experts appointed by the Human Rights Council, although they do not speak on behalf of the UN.

In response, Russia said it was "horrified" by Israel's military operation that had seen "civilian infrastructure targeted" while China said it was ready to facilitate peace talks.

The European Union called for "proper and independent investigations on all allegations" and while appalled by the civilian death toll it recognised Israel's right to self-defence.

Albanese's speech concluded to applause in the chamber. Israel was not present, nor was its chief ally the United States.

Israel has long been harshly critical of Albanese, and on Monday immediately rejected her report as an "obscene inversion of reality".

The United States called her mandate "biased against Israel".

In the rights council on Tuesday, the only firm support for such positions came from non-governmental organisations. The World Jewish Congress said Albanese's mandate "seeks to entrench divisions and a one-sided narrative instead of pursuing a balanced and inclusive approach".

The European Union of Jewish Students said Albanese's "resignation is imperative" for the council to retain any credibility on issues concerning Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Pakistan 'regrets' US veto on Palestine's UN membership bid

Islamabad has regretted the Washington's decision on a move to pave way for recognition of the Palestinian state by vetoing a draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for Palestine’s full membership of the world organisation.

"Pakistan is deeply disappointed by the result of last night’s debate at the UNSC and its inability to reach a consensus and recommend Palestine’s membership to UN General Assembly," Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in her weekly press briefing on Friday.

“We regret the US decision to veto the draft resolution granting full membership of the UN to Palestine,” she added.

The Security Council blocked Palestine's bid to become a full member of the UN due to a US veto on a widely-supported resolution that would have recommended the granting of such status.

The proposal, submitted to the 15-member Council by Algeria, received 12 votes in favour, with the US casting a negative vote and Switzerland and the United Kingdom (UK) abstaining.

The UNSC resolution required at least nine votes in favour and no vetoes from its five permanent members — China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States — to pass.

“We believe, the time has come for admission of Palestine to the UN. This will be a step towards correcting the historic injustice suffered by Palestinians for over 75 years. It will affirm their right to self-determination,” she remarked.

The spokesperson said that the people of Palestine had their inherent right to live in a sovereign Palestinian state with the pre-1967 borders and Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

To a question, she said the upcoming summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Gambia would consider several proposals including those on Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir as well as Islamophobia.

The spokesperson said that during the recent visit of a high-powered Saudi delegation to Islamabad, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud had also called for de-escalation, immediate ceasefire, and lifting of the siege in Gaza.

The stumbling block in the implementation of the ceasefire is the Israeli occupation authorities, she added.

Pakistan should show some courage like their British counterparts , oh wait Britain was involved in defending Israel.

Atleast Pakistan gives lip service

Pakistan sends 8th shipment of humanitarian assistance for Gaza

The 400 tons assistance consisted of winterized tents, tarpaulins, blankets, medicines and food supplies through sea, the foreign minister posted on his X account.

“The shipment will be received by the Pakistani Ambassador at Port Said, Egypt and handed over to the Egyptian Red Crescent for onward delivery to the people of Gaza. Pakistan remains committed to addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of our brothers and sisters in Gaza,” he further posted.

Earlier, Pakistan urged the UN Security Council (UNSC) to take appropriate steps to ensure implementation “in letter and spirit” of its resolution that called for a ceasefire in besieged Gaza.

Speaking in the General Assembly, Ambassador Munir Akram said that as agreed at the Arab-OIC Summit in Riyadh, the 15-member Council should impose an immediate ban on the export of weapons and ammunition to Israel and hold it responsible for their crimes against the Palestinian people in the enclave.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan fully supports the Palestinian people and condemns the use of force by Israel against civilians, especially women and children in Gaza.

Gaza health officials say more than 34,097 people have been killed, thousands of buildings have been damaged or destroyed, and residents have insufficient food, water and medical supplies.

Pakistan doesn't even stand with itself, as a matter of fact, Pakistan can't even stand right now.

Pakistan backs Palestine’s UN membership

Pakistan has called on the United Nations General Assembly to push the Security Council to reconsider and recommend Palestine’s application for full membership of the UN to rectify the historic injustice against the Palestinian people.

“The admission of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations would constitute a concrete political step towards the two-state solution and towards rectifying the historic injustice against the Palestinian people,” Ambassador Munir Akram said in a meeting sparked by a United States’ veto, which blocked an Algerian resolution on 18 April that would have granted Palestine U.N.’s membership.

The meeting was necessitated by “the veto initiative” — the informal name for a resolution adopted by the Assembly in April 2022, titled “Standing mandate for a General Assembly debate when a veto is cast in the Security Council.”

According to the measure, which was put forth following the repeated wielding of the veto at the Council, blocking action on other situations, the General Assembly has a standing mandate to convene within 10 working days of a veto being cast in the Council.

Palestine is a ‘Permanent Observer State” at the UN, meaning that it can participate in all UN proceedings, except for voting on draft resolutions and decisions in its main organs and bodies.

In his remarks, the Pakistani envoy said, “The veto cast against Palestine’s admission erodes the credibility of the assurances that have been held out of support for the two-state solution.

“The diplomacy now underway for peace in Palestine, in Israel and the region would gain considerable momentum if the veto was lifted and Palestine’s admission to the United Nations recommended by the Security Council.”

Ambassador Akram appealed to the United Nations and the international community at large to enforce an immediate ceasefire in Gaza; guarantee unrestricted access to humanitarian aid; prevent further escalation of the conflict; provide international protection for the Palestinians; revive the peace process and hold Israel responsible for its war crimes and crimes against humanity.

“Now,” he said, “the extremist Israeli leadership is threatening an assault on Rafah which, as the UN Secretary-General has stated, ‘would be an unbearable escalation’, would have a devastating impact on the Palestinians in Gaza, with serious repressions on the occupied West.”

Ambassador Akram highlighted the plight of the Palestinian people over the past seven decades, including the denial of self-determination, expulsion from their homeland, and enduring a prolonged and brutal foreign occupation.

The Pakistani envoy condemned Israel for its recent war crimes in Gaza, which had resulted in the deaths of over 35,000 Palestinian civilians, indiscriminate bombing, and the blockade of humanitarian aid, which the International Court of Justice has deemed as “plausible genocide.”

Ambassador Akram also hit back at the Israeli representative for making wild accusations against Islamic countries.

“Let me tell the Israeli representative that the outlawed Israeli regime cannot divert attention from its crimes by leveling calumny against the Islamic countries, ” he said, adding, “Pakistan, unlike Israel, acts in accordance with international law.”

Need to show some actual support if they mean it - these lollipop statements will not cut it.

Of course, things are not so simple but even if Indian children were getting massacred like this, I would want the Pakistani army to make use of its resources to protect the innocent.

How can those who have the power sleep at night knowing innocent children are getting killed everyday? I blame no one else but my own government for sitting idly and giving lollipop statements instead of doing something concrete.

FM Dar calls for immediate Gaza ceasefire, Israel’s accountability at OIC summit

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called for the declaration of an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, the opening of a humanitarian corridor and urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for its military offensive in the besieged enclave.

Dar arrived in The Gambia on Wednesday to represent Pakistan at the 15th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Banjul on May 4 and 5. Besides attending the OIC summit, the newly appointed deputy prime minister will also hold bilateral meetings with dignitaries from the member countries.

The October 7 attack on southern Israel by Hamas and the ensuing Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip has killed nearly 35,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health ministry figures, obliterated much of the enclave’s infrastructure and created a humanitarian crisis verging on famine. About 1,200 people in southern Israel were killed in the October 7 attack

Addressing the Preparatory Meeting of Foreign Ministers on Thursday, ahead of the 15th Session of the OIC’s Islamic Summit Conference, FM Dar emphasised the need to implement UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution 2728 to cease hostilities and demand Israel to halt settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and relinquish all Palestinian properties.

He expressed Pakistan’s “deep concern” about the ongoing “genocide and starvation of Gaza people” and called for the reactivation of the OIC’s Ministerial Committee on Israeli aggression against the Palestinians, offering Pakistan’s assistance to the body.

The deputy prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for the Palestinian people’s “inalienable right to self-determination” and stated that the only permanent solution to the crisis lay in the creation of a “secure, viable, contiguous, and sovereign state of Palestine based on the pre-June 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital”.

Dar also strongly condemned “oppressive state action in Indian-held Kashmir, including extrajudicial killings and media blackouts”. He pledged Pakistan’s “unwavering diplomatic support” for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, as mandated by relevant UNSC resolutions.

The deputy PM also stressed joint action by the OIC to confront rising Islamophobia, which he said “has manifested in more frequent discrimination and acts of violence and incitement against Muslims around the world”.

He said that while social media platforms had established a clear understanding of content relating to “antisemitism” and “holocaust denial”, the same was “not the case for blasphemous or anti-Islamic content”.

Dar said this content was “responsible for widespread distress among Muslims and the global wave of Islamophobia”.

The deputy prime minister urged the OIC to formulate a joint strategy to influence global information networks and platforms to harmonise their application of content regulation policies for blasphemous, anti-Islamic and Islamophobic content.

The OIC foreign ministers adopted the report of the Senior Officials’ Meeting and finalised various documents, including the Resolution on the Issue of Palestine, the Final Communique of the OIC Summit Conference and the Banjul Declaration.

Pakistan sends seventh tranche of humanitarian aid for Gaza

Pakistan on Thursday delivered its seventh consignment of humanitarian aid to the Egyptian Red Crescent, destined for onward distribution to Palestinians in Gaza.

The shipment, which arrived at Port Said, includes essential food, medicine, hygiene kits, blankets, and tents. This brings the total humanitarian assistance delivered by Pakistan to Gaza to 680 tons.

“Pakistan stands in complete solidarity with the people of Gaza and will continue to provide them with essentially required humanitarian assistance in coming days,” said the Embassy of Pakistan in Cairo.

Israeli troops shot and killed three men during clashes in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian officials said early Thursday.

Several others were injured during the confrontation between Israeli forces and Palestinian activists in the town of Tulkarm in the northwest of the territory, the Palestinian Authority’s health ministry told AFP.

“3 martyrs shot by the occupation forces in Tulkarm,” the ministry said.

It identified those killed as Ayman Ahmad Mubarak, 26, Husam Imad Daabas, 22 and Mohammed Yusif Nasrallah, 27.

According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, the three men were killed during an Israeli raid on the town shortly after midnight.

Earlier in the day, the health ministry said Israeli troops killed a young man at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Ramallah shortly after the annual march marking the Nakba, or “catastrophe” of 1948.

Pakistan denounces Israeli attack on refugee camp in Rafah

Pakistan strongly condemned the Israeli bombardment and targeting of a United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) refugee camp in Rafah in Gaza Strip that resulted in multiple casualties.

In a press statement, the foreign office said that targeting individuals who are displaced earlier because of Israeli bombardment and were sheltered in a refugee camp, is yet another breach of international humanitarian law by the Israeli occupation forces.

“The attack is also a blatant defiance of the additional provisional measures of 24 May 2024 by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering Israel to immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah in conformity with its obligations under the Genocide Convention and the worsening humanitarian conditions faced by civilians,” the statement read.

It added that with its latest actions, Israeli occupation forces have once again demonstrated their contempt for international law and the basic tenets of decency and acceptable international behaviour.

“Pakistan reiterates its demand for immediate and unconditional implementation of the orders of the ICJ of 24 May 2024. Measures must be taken to fully protect civilians in Gaza and the Israeli occupation forces must be held accountable for the Gaza genocide. We call on the UN Security Council to play its role in preventing Israel from any further attacks against the civilians in Rafah and taking effective measures to protect the people of Gaza”, the statement concluded.

Dar calls for immediate Gaza ceasefire

Strongly condemning the use of hunger and starvation as a weapon of war by the Israeli forces, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday urged the international community to take action to stop this collective punishment unleashed on the Palestinians and help ensuring immediate ceasefire and unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

“Recent attacks by Israeli settlers on aid convoys as well as seizure of Rafah border crossing with Egypt amounts to deliberate blocking of humanitarian supplies with a clear intent to starve the civilian population,” the deputy prime minister said while addressing the Extraordinary Meeting of the D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul.

What cell phone are you using?

Good stuff. Pakistan should ban all kinds of use of Israeli products across the country. why just karachi and rawalpindi.

But the reality is, people cannot live without mac and KFC.
Most of these so-called Israeli products are locally manufactured. If you are boycotting these products, you are making thousands of people jobless.

These boycotts are nonsense anyway because people are very selective and will only boycott as long as it doesn’t impact their lives.

If you want to make an impact with your boycott you have go to all out. These half-measures have zero impact.

I know what you are trying to say, it is that mindset which is also part of the problem
If you are using Android phones while boycotting Coke, Pepsi and McDonald’s, what is the point?

Boycotts hurt pariah states. White South Africa and South Africans were made to feel as racist losers and both the Sporting( particularly the Rugby boycott) and Economic boycotts hurt them and caused the downfall of Apartheid, even though the UK and USA backed their govt. The irony that Israel was one of their biggest supporters is lost on no one.
More than the economic impact there is the psychological impact of being a pariah state and over time, it does change the minds of these states and citizens

Great! I wonder how many other Arab countries are banning Israeli products? Pity the Palestinians or any Arab country never stand with us.

Pakistan dispatches 9th humanitarian aid shipment to Palestine

Pakistan dispatched its ninth shipment of humanitarian aid to Palestine, the Prime Minister’s Office announced Friday.

The aid, totalling around 300 tons, comprises medicines, hygiene kits, and food packs, and is destined for Aqba Port in Jordan for further distribution to Gaza.

This shipment follows eight previous consignments sent by Islamabad, including winterised tents, blankets, surgical supplies, medicines, female dignity kits, and food packs.

Israel has killed nearly 37,800 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and injured over 85,100 since Oct. 7, according to local health authorities.

Over eight months into the Israeli war, vast tracts of Gaza lay in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.

Mushahid Hussain becomes first Pakistani to address BRICS forum, slams Western role in Gaza

Senator Mushahid Hussain became the first Pakistani to address the International BRICS Forum, held in Vladivostok and organised by Russia's United Russia Party.

Mushahid, Co-Chairman of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and head of two Pakistani think tanks called for Pakistan's inclusion in BRICS, citing a desire to join the emerging global order.

BRICS is a group of five major emerging economies including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa which aims to foster economic cooperation, development, and political dialogue among its member countries.

Founded in 2006, the grouping was originally known as BRIC and comprised Brazil, Russia, India and China. South Africa joined in 2010, and the grouping came to be known as BRICS.

In January 2024, the bloc expanded its membership to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The bloc together represents nearly half of the world's population and a significant portion of global GDP.

Yesterday, Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the country will soon start the formal process to join the the BRICS organisation,

More than 40 other countries including Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Kazakhstan have expressed interest in joining the forum.

Earlier this month Russia had welcomed Turkey's reported desire to become part of the BRICS group of nations, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying the subject would be on the agenda of the organisation's next summit.

In his keynote speech, Mushahid criticised the declining influence of the Western world order, emphasising the role of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in shaping a new international framework based on the UN Charter and peaceful coexistence.

He identified three key trends: democratizing international relations through equality and the rule of law, demilitarizing global interactions to avoid Cold War tensions, and depolarizing the financial system to reduce the political power of the US dollar.

Mushahid lauded President Putin's Eurasian Security proposal and President Xi Jinping's Global Security Initiative. He also condemned Western support for Israel, labelling it a contributor to the Gaza conflict, which he termed a "crime against humanity."

The forum, attended by representatives from 29 countries, highlighted BRICS' significant global influence, encompassing nearly half the world's population and substantial portions of global GDP and energy resources.

Earlier this year on February 18, Senate Defence Committee Chairman Senator Hussain expressed the hope that Pakistan would join BRICS with the cooperation of Russia, the current year’s chair of the world’s five most important developing countries.

Pakistan seeks urgent UN intervention to stop Gaza genocide

Pakistan has called for urgent intervention to stop the genocide in Gaza, as a UN agency warned on Tuesday that new Israeli military orders for evacuation from Khan Younis would affect an estimated 250,000 people.

“There is no more apt situation calling for urgent intervention to stop the genocide than in Gaza where the international community has failed to restore peace,” said Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Munir Akram.

In an alert issued at the UN headquarters, UN humanitarian workers warned that “chaos and panic” were spreading in southern Gaza, where an estimated 250,000 people are set to be impacted by new Israeli military evacuation orders from Khan Younis.

Detailing another night of heavy bombardment across the enclave, the UN agency assisting Palestine refugees, UNRWA reported that Gazans fleeing the southern city have had to erect shelters at the water’s edge because displacement camps along the coast are already packed.

Only a few weeks ago, Khan Younis was deserted after intense Israeli bombardment damaged or destroyed homes and buildings. However, families with few other options went there after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) moved into Rafah at the beginning of May.

“It’s another devastating blow to the humanitarian response here, it’s another devastating blow to the people, the families on the ground. It seems that they’ve been forcibly displaced again and again,” said UNRWA Senior Communications Officer Lo.

Addressing the situation in Gaza during a UN General Assembly debate, Ambassador Akram questioned the international community’s response, asking: “Where are the original eloquent proponents of R2P? Some block the Security Council from demanding a ceasefire, while others supply arms to Israel, even after the ICJ called to stop this plausible genocide.”

He noted that resolution 2735, which calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, remains unimplemented, and the Israeli military operations continue unabated.

“Is this not a situation where the Security Council, acting under the Genocide Convention, reinforced by the R2P doctrine, should intervene to offer protection to the victims in Gaza?” he asked.

Ambassador Akram informed the General Assembly that the OIC has recently proposed creating a UN-led force to protect Palestinian people. “This must be urgently considered by the Security Council,” he demanded.

Ambassador Akram also urged the international community to consider how best it can help in preventing genocides, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, stating that the situation in Gaza “demonstrates that peoples under foreign occupation face a greater risk of severe human rights abuses”.

Responsibility to protect

R2P, or the Responsibility to Protect, is a global political commitment endorsed by all United Nations member states in 2005. It is designed to prevent genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity.

If a state fails to protect its citizens or is itself the perpetrator, it authorises the international community to intervene through diplomatic, humanitarian, and other peaceful means, and as a last resort, through collective use of force authorised by the Security Council.

Gaza students to complete education in Pakistan: PMDC

According to a spokesperson, the decision was made at the request of the Pakistani High Commissioner in London.

A special committee has been formed to oversee the education of these students, with the President of PMDC as its head. Representatives from the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs will also be part of the committee.

The PMDC president said that it is expected that around 100 medical and dental students from Gaza will come to Pakistan, with the first group of 20-30 students arriving soon.

The students will be adjusted in Pakistani medical and dental colleges, and the committee will ensure the smooth completion of their education, he added.

The approval came after the UN agency supporting Palestinian refugees estimated that a quarter of a million people had been impacted since Israel’s army issued a new evacuation order for parts of southern Gaza a day earlier.

“We’ve seen people moving, families moving, people starting to pack up their belongings and try to leave this area,” UNRWA spokeswoman Louise Wateridge told reporters in Geneva via video-link from Gaza.

The agency “estimates that around 250,000 people have been impacted by these orders”, she said, adding: “We expect these numbers to grow”.

Israel’s offensive in Gaza has killed at least 37,925 people, mostly civilians, according to data from the health ministry in the territory.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday firmly presented Pakistan's stance on the situation in Palestine at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and SCO Plus summits, urging the international community to hold Israel accountable and bring it to justice

The prime minister, passionately advocating for Gaza, stated that Israel was engaged in the genocide of Palestinians. He cited the International Court of Justice, which has also classified Israel's actions as genocide.

"Israel is wreaking havoc in Gaza and committing war crimes," said Prime Minister Sharif. He called on the international community to intensify efforts for an immediate ceasefire and ensure humanitarian aid access to Gaza.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasised that Pakistan believes all long-standing disputes should be resolved according to United Nations resolutions.

The prime minister lamented that around 37,000 innocent people, mostly women and children, had been martyred in Palestine, with over two million Palestinians displaced by Israel.

"Pakistan supports a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue based on pre-1967 borders, with the establishment of a Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital," he added.

Pakistan demands proceeding of war crime against Israel in ICJ

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar says Pakistan has forcefully raised the plight of Palestinian people at the international forums, ARY News reported.

Speaking in the Senate today, he reiterated Pakistan’s demand for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing that proceedings of war crimes should be initiated against Israel at the International Court of Justice.

He said the genocide of Palestinians must come to an end and free flow of humanitarian aid should be allowed inside Gaza.

The Deputy Prime Minister said Pakistan has sent nine consignments of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.

Ishaq Dar said the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has allowed medical and dental students from Gaza to complete their studies in Pakistan. He said the Palestinian students will be coming in batches of twenty and thirty.

Earlier, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has approved special permission for medical and dental students from Gaza to complete their education in Pakistan.

I stand with both Israel and Palestine in support of a two nation theory.

The Palestine have a right to their land just as much as my Jewish brothers and sisters have a right to their historic homeland.

Being from Bharat, I recognize Israelis as a fellow 5000 years old civilization.

Let’s ensure peace.
Every life matters.

End war now and forever

Federal cabinet calls for war crimes proceedings against Israel

Pakistan’s federal cabinet on Wednesday adopted a resolution reiterating support for the Palestinians, condemning Israel acts of barbarity and called for initiation of war crimes proceedings.

Addressing the federal cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Israel’s continuing barbaric acts in Palestine had been unprecedented in the human history as it was targeting the innocent citizens including children and women in Gaza and rest of other Palestinian areas.

The prime minister said that during Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and SCO plus summits in Astana, he had raised a strong voice for the rights of the oppressed people of Palestine.

He stressed for resolution of Palestine issue in accordance with the United Nations resolutions, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The earlier resolution passed by the cabinet in support of Palestinians said till October 7, 2023 more than 39,000 Palestinians had been martyred due to barbarity of Israel. Human populations, hospitals, schools, UN and media offices, workers and media people, none among them were safe from indiscriminate bombing, firing and killing spree. The Palestinians areas had turned into graveyard and heaps of destruction. Such a precedent of barbarity, cruelty and brutality was unmatched in the recent history.

Mere condemnation of Israeli acts of cruelty and aggression was not suffice as despite ICJ’s decisions, UN resolutions, demands of human rights bodies, institutions and protests by the civilized people of the world, these acts of brutalities continued unabated, it was added.

The resolution further demanded of the international community and institutions to impose embargoes upon Israel for its war crimes besides, initiation of other legal, diplomatic and administrative measures. A berserk state should be made to abide by the international and rights laws and stop spilling of blood of innocent Palestinians otherwise, the conflict could be widened, it cautioned.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) had already declared Israeli presence in Palestinian areas as illegal and termed Israeli settlements in Palestinian areas as violation of the international laws. The ICJ should also order compensation to the Palestinians for such scale of destruction, it was asserted.

Pakistan also urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as joint voice of the Muslim states, to renew its efforts for the joint and unanimous efforts and mull over formulation of a joint strategy in this regard.

The federal cabinet also appreciated and fully supported SCO for adopting a clear and solid stance in support of Palestine, in its summit held on July 4.

The cabinet demanded of the international community to make Israel accountable for its crimes against humanity and bringing it to face court of justice. The ICJ had declared Israeli brutalities as genocide of Palestinians.

It further stressed upon the global community to accelerate its efforts to ensure ceasefire and supply of human assistance in Gaza.

The prime minister also strongly condemned an attack and vandalism of national flag at Pakistan’s Mission in Frankfurt, Germany and said that elements involved in such act should face strict legal action.

He also condemned the recent incidents of terrorism in the country and paid tribute to the personnel of security forces who laid down their lives in these incidents. The prime minister prayed for the high ranks of the shuhada in Jannah.

“The federal cabinet, in its meeting, approved enforcement of online visa application system for the citizens of 126 countries aimed at promotion of business and investment activities and tourism sector. Under the system, the citizens of these 126 countries would get business and tourist visa within 24 hours and would be exempted from paying free visa processing fee,” the press release said.

Moreover, for the facilitation of Sikhs Yatrees having passports of third country, the cabinet approved separate sub-category in visa on arrival facility. For this purpose, a dashboard would be introduced at ministry of interior to supervise the online visa system.

The federal cabinet, on the recommendations of Islamabad, Balochistan, Sindh, Lahore and Peshawar High Courts and ministry of law and justice, also granted its approval to notifying special courts and banking courts with regard to banking cases.

These included establishments of Special Court on Offences in Banks at Islamabad under Section 37 of the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Act 1997, Special Court on Offences in Banks at Quetta and similar Special Courts at Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Peshawar, the latter would be set up as Banking Court-1 Peshawar.

These special and banking courts would function under Security Exchange Commission.

The cabinet also gave a go ahead to singing of MoU between Pakistan and Denmark for promotion of public private partnership over logistics, transport, green and sustainable growth, water waste management, urban green development, alternate energy and construction of basic infrastructure.

The resolution also reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support to freedom of people of Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and their legitimate rights as enshrined in the UN resolutions and the international laws.

The cabinet stressed for increased efforts at provision of necessary goods including food stuff to Palestinians.

“Pakistan, once again, stresses upon the UN and global community to take immediate steps for the resolution of lingering disputes of the regions. Renewed efforts should be made for the for the establishment of free Palestine state with Al Quds Al Shareef as its Capital on pre-1967 borders, and for the two-state solution,” the press release in Urdu text quoted a part of the resolution.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination

He strongly condemned Israel’s actions against innocent civilians in Gaza.

In a meeting with outgoing Palestinian Ambassador Ahmed Jawad A.A. Rabei at the Prime Minister's House on Tuesday, Shehbaz expressed deep concern over Israel's actions since October 7, 2023.

"Israel’s barbarism has resulted in the heart-wrenching deaths of over 40,000 innocent Palestinians, including women and children, with more than 90,000 injured," Sharif stated.

The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to finding a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue through a two-state solution.

He emphasised that the creation of an independent state of Palestine, with pre-1967 borders and Al Quds as its capital, is the only viable solution in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.

"Establishing an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds as its capital is the sustainable solution," he added.

Ambassador Rabei expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sharif for Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and for the hospitality extended to him during his five-year tenure.

He praised Pakistan’s historic and consistent stance on Palestine and its contributions to international efforts for peace and stability in the region.

Rabei also thanked the Government of Pakistan for providing much-needed humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people and for offering scholarships to Palestinian medical students to complete their studies in Pakistan.

The prime minister wished Ambassador Rabei success in his future endeavours and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continue supporting the Palestinian cause on all international platforms.

Pakistan condemns Israel device attacks in Lebanon

Pakistan strongly condemned the attacks in Lebanon carried through detonation of electronic equipment and termed the use of cyber and electronic means to commit terrorism in foreign countries as reprehensible, ARY News reported.

Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in a weekly briefing said that Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and offer its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the people and the Government of the Republic of Lebanon.

“Repeated terror attacks are a manifestation of Israel’s alarming adventurism in the region which has endangered regional peace and security. Pakistan reaffirms its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and calls upon the international community to take urgent steps to hold Israel to account on its acts of international terrorism and violations of international law,” Mumtaz Zahra Baloch added.

The FO spokesperson also condemned the Israeli airstrikes of 12 September against an UNRWA-run school-turned-shelter in Gaza. “The horrifying massacre that also included death of UNRWA staff is yet another crime committed by Israel in Gaza since October last year,” she added.

“Pakistan calls for the full implementation of ICJ’s Advisory Opinion delivered on 19 July 2024, which emphasizes the illegal nature of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories and highlights the urgent need for the international community to uphold the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people. This includes an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to bring about an end to the suffering faced by the people of Gaza”

Sustainable development can’t happen while tragedies like Gaza continue to be perpetuated, Asif tells UN summit

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Tuesday said that no sustainable development can take place till “tragedies like Gaza are perpetuated by the developed world”.

His remarks regarding Israel’s onslaught on Gaza — which has killed more than 41,000 Palestinians — came at the start of his speech at the United Nations ‘Summit of the Future’ in New York, which is a part of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

Asif is a member of the Pakistani contingent accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who arrived in New York on Monday night for the summit.

Speaking at the summit, Asif said that the adoption of the ‘Pact for the Future’ is “an expression of our collective determination to respond to the global challenges of security and development that threaten the present and future generations”.

He noted that for more than 100 developing countries, the pact offers an opportunity to revitalise development and reform the unequal international financial and economic system.

“The pact will be transformative only if we translate the commitments undertaken into concrete action,” he said.

Asif said that in order to bridge the $4 trillion Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) financing gap, longstanding commitments to Official Development Assistance (ODA) countries must be fulfilled and the Secretary General’s SDG Stimulus proposal must be implemented.

Fifty per cent of the unused 2021 allocation of Sustainable Development Reports (SDRs) must be rechanneled, he added.

“[We must] deliver a bigger, better and more ambitious International Development Association by ensuring a robust $100 billion replenishment in December this year,” he said, before emphasising the need to increase the lending by multilateral development banks.

Other measures to bridge the SDG financing gap, he said, include lowering borrowing costs for developing countries; improving representation of developing countries in international financial institutions; reviewing sovereign debt architecture to make it more equitable and adopting an equitable international tax regime.

Another measure, he said, was reforming the World Trade Organisation to serve as a vehicle for export expansion and development through preferential treatment for developing countries and avoidance of new environmental protectionism.

“The UN, by virtue of its universal membership and mandate, remains an indispensable platform to propel and monitor implementation of these commitments,” Asif said.

He noted that bridging the digital divide would be the key to an equitable future.

“Pakistan welcomes the outcomes of the Global Digital Compact in this regard. We must bridge the North-South divide and prevent an East-West fragmentation of the digital space,” he said.

“We must ensure equitable data governance. And, we must capture and control the power of Artificial Intelligence.”

Tarar, part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s delegation, was speaking to the media outside the UN headquarters in New York.

“We want an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and accountability of the aggressor Israel for war crimes and genocide being committed in Palestine”, he asserted.

“Genocide of armless Palestinians was being committed” in Gaza, APP quoted Tarar as saying, adding that he called upon the world to bring perpetrator Israel to justice.

Highlighting that PM Shehbaz had raised both the Palestine and Kashmir issues at all international fora, Tarar said the Kashmir issue would figure in the premier’s engagements at the UN this year too.
