Pakistan Super League 2019 telecast banned in India

Dont think there is a ban. D Sports itself decided not to show matches as public sentiments are clearly not conducive.

Sports channel pulls the plug on Pakistan’s version of IPL after Kashmir attack.

In the wake of Pulwama attack, sports channel DSport, the official broadcaster of Pakistan Super League (PSL) in India, has pulled the plug on the Twenty20 tournament, which is touted as Pakistan’s version of the IPL.

The current edition of PSL, which is in its fourth season, was launched with fanfare in Dubai on Thursday with a colourful function. The sixteam tournament is underway in the UAE and its final leg will move to Pakistan with Karachi and Lahore hosting the games.

But the ‘show’ has stopped, at least in India. DSport stopped the broadcast from last night (Saturday). The telecast of the Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings match, which had started at 9.30 pm, was not available live on the channel. The announcement, though, continued to reflect ‘Pakistan Super League (Live) from 9.30 pm’.

The confirmation, though, came a little late. “We’ve suspended the broadcast,” a top channel official told Mirror late on Saturday night.

The channel was to blackout the tournament from Friday night itself but had some technical issues. The India feed was apparently linked to some other countries as well and extricating the India feed from the other countries was not immediately possible.

“We’re seized of the matter and it is a topic that is occupying our minds. We’re sensitive to the national issues and we’re considering how to do it. There are a few technical issues involved,” the official had told this newspaper before taking the decision to blackout the league. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not respond to a query from Mirror.

The PSL, thought to be producing quality cricket with a lot of international participation, has always been an untouchable property in India. It had no takers in its first two years and the matches were available only on the web. But last year, D Sport picked up the rights, only to have to stop the broadcast on Saturday.

“I’m surprised that they have not stopped so far. It’s a national issue,” Harish Thawani, who held the Indian cricket rights for six years, told Mirror before DSport pulled the plug on the league.

India should ban all foreign players who are playing in PSL. Let the primary school boys do their jobs.

In the past, if a terrorist attack take place followed by investigations on who is the mastermind behind the attack. Many terrorist organisations claim that they are not behind that attack...Eventually upon investigations, they will find the culprits ... But now, terrorist groups come out like the truth sayers with a media release claiming that they are responsible for it ...

Shows how much are these organisations enjoy their freedom.. What a world we are living in

It won’t surprise me if commentators for IPL are also given guidelines behind the scenes to not mention names of certain players if they are talking on topics of fast bowling legends, reverse swing, inswinging yorkers, great all rounders, or elegant stroke players of the past , any mention that could in some way promote admiration for Pakistani players among the Indian public.

So there is no ban but D Sports own decision to pull the plug to avoid any negativs publicity.

So what? If Dsports can take a hit so can IMGReliance.

You are not understanding where I am coming from.

Shiv sena has threatened T series to remove new song of Atif. They've also asked T series and sony not to work with Pak artists.

Do you think D sports wanted take hit? They know, if they don't stop broadcast there will be consequences from the concerned parties.

But no one has power to decide what Reliance does.

Bjp, Reliance, Shiv sena are all one. And, as I said. Only you, me and the ones on pp knows that Reliance is the production company. A normal citizen doesn't.

D sports didn't have a choice really.
They are being indirectly forced to not show PSL matches

you don't see batting like Watson and UA in those leagues though and a spell like Rauf bowled last night;-)

I am not saying about cricket, there are other league in India which are quite popular. Why anybody in India watch PSL after too much of int'l cricket and IPL .

Write them an angry email and maybe take a high jaish..i mean high josh..mob to their offices, maybe that would work.

Why should I? Didnt hv any issues with the broadcast. My question is will Reliance owned by the richest man in Asia,do it or not?

Because quality is much better compare to that local leagues and cricket mad nation don't have other sports to associate themselves to. It's a timepass they can relate to.

If there was IPL right now no channel would have even bought rights for PSL but since it's not then you can't blame who watch it.

One does not gets rich by being sentimental.

Lol , there are more successful sports league in India than number of players u send to Olympic. Cricket crazy nation, just come to South and east India , they will struggle to name a cricket player other than Kohli.
Seriously again what that channel thought on airing PSL in India.

So people in South and East India, don't know about Indian Cricket players? Wow

This was always going to be on the cards if there was a hint of trouble.

The issue now is though, nobody will touch the PSL in India in future, or at least for a good few years.

You can delete all the coverage of the PSL you like but you can't remove history like this

Looks like D sports has decided not to telecast the match.

Makes sense given the current situation.

It's not really bannned.

The broadcaster is choosing not to broadcast it. It's not that they have been instructed not to allow it.

Essentially they are terrified of some clowns on social media so taking the safe route, which companies always do.

Same thing with Sarfraz and Pandya and Gabriel. Companies will always cater to idiots who shout loudly about something on social media.

True. Such bans, though not imposed by the Indian government, have proven to be irreversible.

IPL teams chose not to bid for Pakistani players after 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Since then, only Azhar Mehmood played in IPL after he got British Citizenship. Indian producers boycotted Pakistani actors after Uri attack.

Going by the past, PSL will never be shown again on Indian channels. Pakistani singers like Atif Aslam & Rahat Fateh Ali Khan won’t be singing again in Indian movies. For movie produces & record labels, it’s simply not worth the risk.

Government might change in India. In this atmosphere companies don't want to risk antagonizing right-wing trolls because who knows whether the situation might snowball or not. If the current administration loses I doubt the situation will be so toxic.

DSports have started the telecast from today
Great for viewers to watch playoff from now
