Pakistan Super League 2020 - Crowd Watch

You do realize that this game has more ppl in than any other league including the big bash. Only IPL games are sold out and they have had 11 years of home games.
Lower your expectations mate.

You can simply stop watching and sod off this thread. It's tiresome listening to rona dhona pretty much every second on this forum.

You are entitled to your opinion, like I am, and everyone else on this forum. I have to rant somewhere because of the disappointment, as I was expecting much bigger tournament with more quality

So so happy to see Psl being played in Pakistan. I grew up watching Pakistan play in Pakistan especially that Inzi captaincy era. Haters can hate but this is such a great time as it seemed that we will keep on playing in the UAE forever. Haters can keep on hating.

Well, let those worry who are responsible for PSL ;) And please, love, don't be hurt. It's ok.

Lol .... who said i am hurt ? :)

thn you are at the wrong place, its not gonna be bigger thn IPL .... sorry to burst your buble... now you know the reality i hope you will make peace with it.

For a domestic tournament, the crowd in Karachi and Lahore was good.

On Satarday nights it will be better as most people will have a day-off next day to rest.

Enjoy what you are getting after a long time at home grounds.

If this happens I'm happy. As long as PSL makes profit. With more venues it will definitely improve.

It appears the crowds have been at 60-70%, that is simply unacceptable for a premier T20 tournament of this kind. The PCB is to blame for absolutely zero buzz, zero marketing and publicity, in 2019 the PCB went all out to publicize the T-20 games in Karachi and the end result was all games in KHI being sold out. Looks like the PCB just didn't want to incur the investment and considered the whole exercise as an expense instead.

I caught the last hour of the lahore vs multan match and was very disappointed with the crowd. Entire swathes of the stadium were empty. Looked around 30 percent full maybe which is terrible. I genuinely thought lahore would be a decent crowd on a friday night

Match started at 7:00 PM and people need to go atleast couple of hours early just like most sporting events. It wasnt the ideal time for Friday. World is pretty busy now a days so either the expectations of full houses should only be kept for weekends when everybody is free or PCB should push the evening match a little further.

In comparatively smaller cities there might be a chance of full house on Friday evenings but unless its playoff expecting Friday to be full house at 7:00 PM in Karachi or Lahore is unrealistic

We probably have already seen more crowd in first two days than UAE gathered for all the group stage matches combined. Revenue would be much much more in Pak as ticket sales are an important part and they were non existent in UAE.

I thought that there would have been full houses and it's surprising to see that there were some empty seats on both days so far.

We can critisize karachi and lahore all we want, but it would be better if someone could tell us the ground realities.

I went to see a test match in rawalpindi. It took atleast an hour and waiting in lines to get into the the stadium only for a test match. No car parking was availible, all foood outlets closed near the stadium or in the premises.

People of Pindi are always free hence they can go through all this hassle, but i doubt people of karachi and lahore would want to go through such hassles. Too much khawari to attend a match.

I have tickets for the first rawalpindi match but i already know that i cant take my car as there will be parking issue. I will have to book a careem maybe and the entery point will be quite far so i have to be prepared for a long walk

Plus, 5 hours of no food if all the food outlets are closed.

Corono Virus could be the reason people avoiding crowded places?

These are all excuses. We had poor crowds in Pakistan’s international matches vs Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well.

It looks like that this is just how it is. Whatever the reason is, it looks like the interest is just not there anymore.

Though, I do think we’ll see packed crowds in Multan and Rawalpindi. Short form cricket still hasn’t returned to those venues yet so excitement should be high.

I think weekends should be packed even in Lahore and Karachi but lets see.

I live in Mancheter and Lancashire cricket ground is always full when Pakistan plays, as is Leeds. Even local Lancashire T20 matches are full. Now let's look at populations, Manchester has approximately 500000 people and cricket is not even a primary sport here. It really shows up the poor attendances of Pakistanis at the PSL. Pakistan's claim of being a cricket starved nation seem inaccurate. A cricket starved nation would do without food for 4,5 hours and would happily go through security. As in, it is not even hot weather in Pakistan at the moment.

I guess the people of Manchester are always free? That is not really a valid excuse. The truth is that Pakistanis are no longer passionate about cricket but more passionate in listening to new channels 24/7.

What a nonsense post ..It will take time for fans to fill the grounds, new generation with smart phones with live games so I disagree with OP as for comparing it with IPL lol that just makes you a troll ,

Let's see the crowds during the weekend. But really the incompetence of the PCB shows where they have been very misery on spending and promoting the league this time around

there are two reasons.
1- ticket prices are high for pakistani standards more than half of pakistans population is from middle class. they can't afford 1500, even 1000 rupee ticket every day. yesterday i saw fans were searching 500 rs and 250rs tickets but all were sold. only 1500, and above tickets were availble. therefore pcb need to think about this next time.
3. our young generation has lost interest in cricket 10 years is a long time so it will take time.

I think not having any eye catching names is another problem. All the more reason for the PCB to have promoted this league more aggressively just like they did last season in khi

This can be a problem however it's not a major one, major issues are the one that I have listed.

People should stop crying about crowds. They have been decent. No where in the world crowds are full for every match of a cricket tournament. IPL struggles with crowds as well especially for the initial matches. If anyone wants i can give them references.

Nonsense... IPL matches in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and other venues are so passionately attended... All this makes PSL a very sub-standard product without the involvement of full house. And International Cricket happens in India throughout the year unlike Pakistan where no Cricket for over a decade and yet fans arent thronging to the stadiums to watch some action.

The only place PSL would get full crowds is England. Here people are willing to give up sleep for cricket while in Pakistan no one seems to care too much.

And tell us the capacity of each of these stadia?

you missed the whole point of my post

getting into a stadium in england is not a hassle.

In Pakistan getting into the stadium IS A BIG HASSLE. ANd once ur in the stadium you cant eat food. Reentry isnt alowed that easily.

Also, its very easy to say that staying hungry 5-6 hours is nothing. But when you go through so much hassle and watch entertainment than you want to have food with you

I have always said that if you live boradcast the match in the city where the match being played you won't get get full capaicity. We shoulod learn from Australia.

I addressed all your issues. No food and security should not be a problem for a: "cricket starved nation". No point in making excuses, Pakistanis need to self reflect and up their games. All talk but no walk from Pakistani masses, put your money where your mouth is.

again, its easy for you to say.

but when you stand in lines for 2 hours, get into the stadium and spend 5-6 hours just for a cricket match, waste alot of energy you obviously need food.

Also, USA is a snack eating country, thats their culture. Pakistan is more of a nation where people make sure they have their meals. You cant change the way of living of people.

If you want to offer something then you need to provide proper services.

People dont care about such titles like cricket starving nation. I bought a 100 ruppees ticket for the test match, i didnt expect any good facilities on that 100 ruppees ticket. Now i have a 1500 ticket for PSL match in Pindi,
Now if i go to the staidum, waste 1-2 hour in lines and when reaching the stadium get no food, than its a waste of Rs 1500, and i wont be returning in the future.

If i get good value from that 1500, than i might return.
PSL is a brand and it follows the simple techniques of marketing where you retain customers.

Remember, in the begining alot of people will show up, but those people need to be retained aswell.

Didn’t know this was a thing. So locals in a Australian city hosting a match don’t get to watch it live?

The prices are expensive considering super high inflation in Pakistan. Upper middle class and burger families aren’t that much interested in cricket.

There should be a family pack option as well, as well kids getting cheap tickets.

Stop advertising yourself as a cricket starved nation then. Surely, even Afghanistan had more fans in their T20 league. Anyhow, the security is there for obvious reasons so its not going any where. Pakistani public is to be partially blamed for the mess that the country is in, however, that is for another day.

I am just disappointed that Pakistanis do not support local cricket. Actual fact, disappointed in Lahores and Karachi. I am sure if the matches are held in smaller cities in Pakistan, more people will attend.

You mean the UK? Not the USA? I dont know what the relevance is?!?!? Surely, if you have your meal before coming out, you can survive 5,6 hours? I normally eat breakfast at 7:30 AM and then have my lunch at work at 1-2 PM.

Your excuses are not valid at all. Stop defending the indefensible. Anyhow, enough on this topic, we are going around in circles here.

Go to a local McDonald's or any other semi decent food place, you will see the inflation. Quite evidently, this nation has its priorities wrong. Their entertainment is eating and watching news channels 24/7. Oh and social media. We are doomed.

PCB should have targeted middle class and lower middle class families.

Very surprised at the number of empty seats once again at the NSK.

Why aren't the stadiums full?

How do you guys want people to fill the stadium every day?
There are matches everyday in Karachi and Lahore. No one has the time and/or money to go to the ground everyday.

It's the first edition back in Pakistan so we have to be patient.
Average croud will be more important when there will only be home and away matches.

Awful turnout today at Karachi. Very disappointing for a Saturday, even taking into account Karachi isn't one of the teams playing

Karachi and Lahore have enormous populations. There shouldn't be any difficulty in filling up stadiums that have seating capacities of under 30,000 people.

Certainly hasn't been the case for the 17+ years I've been here. All matches are broadcast across the country.

Big names playing.
Keep hearing Pakistani public is cricket-crazy.
Keep hearing Pakistani public is desperate to see PSL at home.
Huge populations

No reason why stadiums should not be jam-packed.

There are many points to take in consideration.
Cricket is not as present as it used to be in Pakistan. And also, the new generation doesn't have the culture to go to the stadium. They haven't done this in their life.
It will take time.

Good amount of crowd in today again. Sizeable enough anyway. Not sure why the moaning. More than we'd ever get in UAE. Karachi and Lahore have suffered a lot of cricket fatigue. I'm sure Mulan etc will be full. Just like Pindi saw a lot of people at the test matches.

Is the just the habbit of certain people to keep moaning and complaining.

Food and drinks should not be the issue. Last time I visited National Stadium there were food stalls within the boundary wall of the stadium.

Still better than UAE. Thank God every match is in Pakistan. Can't wait for the matches to be held in Peshawar next year, would be fun.

Yes it's already better and it will grow In Shaa ALLAH a gap of more than 10 years is a lot to cover

ABD didn't participate in PSL citing his workload. I wonder if he has the same issue with IPL, which is going to take place next month. At least UAE might have pulled Warner & Smith too. But we gotta have cricket in Pakistan no matter what. And the result is here.

It's a fact that many would have been comfortable playing in UAE. At least we would have stars with empty stadiums, rather than no stars with empty stadiums. Crowds were good on weekend in UAE. ab na teen me, na tera me.

Players will get homesick while stationed off at some hotel for security reasons.

If security is improved, why roads to stadiums are blocked????? The false pretense of security will ruin us.

PCB is incompetent. It's not a surprise. Selection of Misbah, as chief selector, head coach & IU's coaching speaks volumes about the change PCB's management has brought in.

May be if Imran Khan take notice of our cricket, things might change for the better.

I don't know the exact the avg price but just giving random numbers to make people understand

10, 000 x avg price 800= 80 lacs
30,000 x avg price 300 = 90 lac

Almost same amount earned but you are creating a brand as well in long term. PCB were being greedy and thought it will be housefull

And you are forgetting the biggest turn over of this low pricing strategy. The more the people watch them, the more they could be one of the future stars. Empty stadiums don't help in making future stars. The young generation will aspire to be the next babar azam. Or, whoever they love.

Not much turn out in Women World Cup as well. May be Cricket isnt as popular or fans dont find enough time to spare

Checked on the net at yayvo. Online quota was sold out yet attendance coming to watch is really poor.

Wont be surprised to hear, PCB has botched this setup as well check the tv coverage it feels like we are in 2007 watching matches in Bangladesh.

I wonder how much is the turn out in BPL. Its not as mature as IPL, as some have given the logic that IPL is 11 year mature and thats why turn out is big.

Case study of BPL will be easy to pin point where is the issue

BPL has massive turnout at night matches. Day matches also crowd is also bigger than what we are seeing in Pakistan. Somethings not right pcb has created some type of a mess.

Thanks man, Looks like you are in the stadium. Crowd is building up it seems

Disappointing to see lack of PSL related advertising in Lahore - hardly any billboards or mention of PSL at airport etc

Is crowd less than expectations in Lahore and Karachi?
Yes

Is crowd more than what we saw in UAE?
Absolutely.

Will crowd build up as the tournament progresses?
I am pretty sure it will.

P.S: Its first PSL in Pakistan and there are things which will improve with time in terms of how PCB manages things and how people start to become part of this.

Maybe we overestimate the hunger for cricket. Some people are content following the PSL on tv or on their app.

I have only seen full crowds in Aus, Eng and SA. People there don't mind spending some money on cricket.
