The Pakistan Taliban has brought two splinter groups back into its fold, it announced in a statement, days after the army said nationwide operations against armed groups had brought "hard-earned success".

The Pakistan Taliban, fighting to overthrow the government, is an umbrella of Sunni armed groups called Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has broken into many divisions.

The TTP, designated a "terrorist" group by the United States, has been in disarray in recent years, especially after several of its top leaders were killed by US drone attacks on both sides of the border, forcing its members into shelter in Afghanistan, or fleeing to urban Pakistan.

"Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan welcomes them," the TTP statement said of the two splinter groups, adding that it would like all groups to unite.

The reunion with Jamat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) and Hizb-ul-Ahrar (HuA) appears significant in view of the rise in attacks against security forces, most claimed by the TTP, including some suicide bombings.

Pakistani army spokesman Major General Babar Iftikhar said last week, however, the military's operations against armed groups had been very successful.

"The war against terrorism has yielded some hard-earned success," he told a news conference. "More than 18,000 terrorists have been killed and more than 400 tonnes of explosive material seized" in a countrywide anti-militant operation that started in 2017.

The reunion comes at a time when the US is promoting peace talks between the Afghan Taliban and the government in Kabul.

The US signed an agreement with the Taliban in February that called for US troops withdrawal in exchange for security guarantee from the Afghan armed group, which has been fighting the Afghan and US-led NATO forces since 2001.

The Pakistan Taliban said the two groups pledged allegiance to the TTP chief, Mufti Noor Wali, shown in photos at a ceremony.

It was not clear what side of the border the ceremony took place. Government and military officials did not comment on the merger or the location of the ceremony.

The JuA, which broke away from the TTP in 2014, has been involved in major attacks, including the 2016 suicide bombing in a park in the eastern city of Lahore that the group said targeted Christians celebrating Easter. It killed more than 70 people.

The HuA, a faction that further split from the JuA, has not been so active.

India working overtime after Balakot and after the Us's peace initiative. They know Biden is probably going to win and are keen to show what a danger Pakistan is. I hope our armed forces take ruthless action against these proxies as soon as possible. The Modi regime wants to see Pakistan blood flowing on pakistani streets again. Any attack by the TTP should be flagged as an attack by india on Pakistan. That will raise the stakes and the escalation ladder.

Aren't you giving our lot more credit/importance than they deserve?

No. You are fed this lie that your organisations like RAW are incompetent. RAW is one of the most successful intelligence organisations in the last 60 years. It is also one of the most dangerous. They are ruthless, clever and will do anything to achieve their goals. I expect nothing less. I would say they are your most elite organisation.

To counter them has cost us half a country, and countless lives. You should be giving them medals.

Terrorist arrested in Lahore; explosives seized

LAHORE: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Punjab, on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a terrorist of a banned outfit and foiled a terrorism plot here in the City.

The CTD Punjab conducted an intelligence-based operation in Lahore region and arrested one terrorist of TTP/Hizb-ul-Ahrar.

According to spokesperson for CTD, the officials got information about presence of the suspect near Lahore Railway Station. The terrorist carrying explosives was waiting for suicide bomber as they had planned to attack on a sensitive office of LEA.

Critics are always looking for blood when terror attacks occur. They have no idea of how many terror attacks are stopped by our security forces.

Oh puhleez! The one guy we sent got caught, and we keep reading about our officers giving away secrets to fake female profiles set up by the Pakistanis (:)) ) you want us to think RAW is some competent, ruthless intelligence agency.

There's no evidence that Kulbushan ever worked for the RAW. It's most likely a fabrication by the ISI.
That said, you are right. If RAW was really as capable as some Pakistanis think it is, Balochistan would have been an independent country and the whole of Kashmir would have been under Indian control.

And also, if the ISI was as capable as some Indians think it is, Khalistan would have been in existence as an independent country and Pakistan would have had the entire Kashmir under their control.
