I think Indians should follow suit & export the donkeys in the Parliment building first. :)

Pakistan is expected to earn millions of dollars annually in foreign exchange by exporting donkeys, said a senior official at the livestock department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Pakistan has the world’s third largest population of donkeys with more than 5 million animals, while China stands at number one.
In a bid to boost the country’s exports to earn much needed foreign exchange, the Live Stock Department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced that it will develop donkey farms — the first of its kind in the country.
This follows the opening of the first donkey hospital in Lahore, which has the largest number of animals in the country.
According to reports, at least two donkey farms are being set up in Dera Ismail Khan and Mansehra with foreign partnership.

Chinese companies have shown interest in donkey farming in Pakistan. The government would want to sign an agreement with a company that is associated with the Chinese government, Geo TV reported.
Officials said foreign companies are ready to make a $3 billion investment in the commercial farming of donkeys.
"We want to sign an agreement after thinking carefully because we do not want scarcity of animals in Khyber Paktunkhwa," said an official.
During the first three years, the government plans to export as many as 80,000 donkeys to China.
The donkey farm is part of projects initiated by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provincial government and is called "KP-China Sustainable Donkey Development Programme,. It is one of the many investment proposals the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Planning and Development Department has put forward

Donkeys are is highly prized in China, especially for their hide which is used to manufacture traditional Chinese medicines.
"The proposed project will help improve the socio-economic status of donkey-rearing communities by improving the health and production of local donkeys," according to a statement by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Livestock Department
The project was unveiled at a time when China is desperately in need of more donkeys.

Gelatin made from donkey skin has been long considered to have medicinal properties in China, traditionally being thought to nourish the blood, enhance the immune system and even prolong one's life.

The most famous variety donkey gelatin, named "ejiao," is produced in Dong'e County in East China's Shandong Province. It is prized in China, with the price surging from 130 yuan ($18.9) per kilogram in 2001 to 5,400 yuan this year according to the National Business Daily. About 4 million donkeys are slaughtered each year to produce ejiao.
As China's donkey shortage is occurring at a time when Pakistan has one of the largest stocks, around 5 million, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government will "develop market linkages to improve the price and enhance the income of breeders and traders," according to the government program's website.

In 2015, the Economic Coordination Committee led by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, placed a temporary ban on the export of donkey hide, fearing an irreversible decline in stock but the ban has been lifted now.
In the first phase, sick and handicapped animals will be exported from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa where 70,000 people use donkeys as working animals.
According to the Punjab Livestock Department, the number of donkeys in Lahore alone has climbed to over 41,000 and is increasing.
The Punjab government has established a ‘Donkey hospital’ where owners can get their animals treated free of cost.
According to the donkey breeders, the animal costs Rs35,000 (Dh900) to Rs55,000 and could earn for the owner Rs1000 per day (Dh27)—a sufficient amount to feed a poor family in a day.

Due to the increased demand of hide in China over the last few years, hundreds of thousands of donkeys were illegally killed across the country. While the hide was smuggled to China, donkey meat was sold in the market.
According to reports, a number of restaurants and meat shops were shut down for selling donkey meat mainly in Lahore. The problem was so severe that the country’s top investigation body Federal Investigation Agency had to intervene to stop the donkey meat menace.

China must need them in abundance it seems as donkeys are used in some traditional medicine. Good chance for Pakistan to earn some foreign exchange..

CHINA SHOWS INTEREST IN IMPORTING DONKEYS FROM PAKISTAN

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Commerce on Monday told the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce that China has expressed interest in importing donkeys and dogs from Pakistan.

According to details, the Senate Standing Committee meeting on Commerce was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Zeeshan Khanzada to get a briefing on imports and exports.

During the meeting, Dinesh Kumar, a member of the standing committee, said that China is asking Pakistan to export donkeys as well as dogs.

Upon this, Senator Abdul Qadir said that the Chinese ambassador has talked about exporting meat from Pakistan several times.

Last year, the Punjab government has set up a farm in Okara district with an aim to export donkeys to earn foreign exchange.

The farm is said to be the first government-owned facility in the province where donkeys of great breeds, including American, will be reared for their export to China and other countries.

The donkey farm had been set up at Bahadurnagar Farm which is spread over an area of 3,000 acres.

The Bahadurnagar Farm’s manager Dr Mansoor Mubeen had said fast changing economic trends are bringing a revolution in rural areas. He hoped that the project would help local breeders to earn a livelihood.

China will probably eat them.

Good cheap form of transport - can reduce global warming! Think its time we went back to these modes of transport!

They tried this is in Africa and it backfired Tanzania banned it.

Donkey numbers became critically low and the prices rose making them unaffordable for poor people who rely on them.

So when people refused to sell them criminal gangs would start stealing Donkeys

Donkey is a valuable cheap animal for poor people in pakistan this is another valuable resource that will be stripped by the elites

China also wants dogs and its only a matter of time when they will ask for pakistani women's hair , ship pakistani women and human organs they were already caught doing this shipping of women and putting them into prostitution or harvesting their organs.

My Chinese neighbor business in Pakistan is collection waste hair from hair salons and then export it to China for making wigs

I actually had it in Sicily. I have no opinion of it Did not know i was eating donkey. Lean meat. Had horse meat in Uzbekistan. Sausage form. Was a bit funky ( due to being a sausage) I guess

When then they said donkeys, I thought they meant the chors that have taken control of the country.

I wonder what’s the average turnover for the donkey business. It seems a very exclusive business. Also in this part of the world where animal rights are not really a big thing, I just hope things dont get into that abuse zone if this is lucrative.

There's no animal in Pakistan that's used and abused more than the poor faithful donkey. My heart actually used to bleed seeing them carry massive loads on donkey carts while getting physically tortured by rubber pipes and other things.

One of the hardiest animals and an absolutely majestic one surely deserves so much more respect and love.

Why just meat, also export some real-life donkeys as well who are corrupting the system for years.

Export protocols for donkey meat to China finalized

The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce was informed on Wednesday that protocols to export donkey skins and meat to China had been finalised.

The commerce ministry officials disclosed this while briefing the committee meeting chaired by Senator Anusha Rahman. It was also briefed on the attached departments of the commerce division to review its performance.

The additional secretary in charge of the Commerce Ministry, Ahsan Ali Mangi, informed the committee that the protocol for donkey skins had been finalised, and the ministry was also planning to include donkey meat in the list. He said the ministry has also finalised export protocols for onions, potatoes and chillies to China.

Ms Rahman asserted that Pakistan produces only one-fifth of its demand for onions, making it quite difficult to justify the export of onions to China.

He informed the committee that the ministry has proposed nine new missions, including Malaysia, Iraq, Oman, Tanzania, Kenya, and Mozambique.

Officials briefed the committee that the Transit Trade Agreement with Central Asian countries (CACs), mainly Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan, has been finalised. Pakistani trucks move goods worth $2.2-3 million every month, and the ministry expects a rapid increase in trade with the CACs.

Soaring debts of TCP

Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) Chairman Rafeo Bashir Shah informed the committee that the TCP’s debts had soared to Rs281bn since 2008, with an interest of Rs160m accruing daily. The Utility Stores Corporation, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, KP food departments, and Ministry of Industries and Production owe the TCP.

The primary objective of TCP is to import wheat, urea, and sugar as directed by the government to stabilise domestic demand. He explained that despite several requests to provincial departments, reconciliation of outstanding amounts has not been achieved.

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan stated that the ministry is facing a ticking time bomb, and if the issue is not resolved, it could turn into another circular debt. The committee decided to refer the matter to the Senate Finance Committee for immediate resolution.

Furthermore, the committee was briefed by State Life Insurance (SLIC) and National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) officials. The CEO of SLIC apprised the committee that State Life is a profitable state-owned enterprise, and public confidence in the company has increased significantly. SLIC is committed to upholding public trust and is working with provincial governments to implement the Sehat Card nationwide, which has subsequently also improved the performance of both public and private hospitals.

The CEO of NICL stated that NICL is the second-largest insurance company in the country, with a growth rate of 20.29pc in FY24, compared to 29.66pc growth in the fiscal year 2022-23.

Chinese Delegation Shows Interest in Establishing Donkey Farms in Pakistan

A Chinese delegation expressed keen interest in establishing donkey farms in Pakistan on Saturday, citing the country’s favorable environment for donkey breeding.

In a meeting between National Food Security and Research Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain and Vice President of China’s Donkey Industry Zhao Fei in Islamabad, the minister welcomed the interest and emphasized the country’s strong relationship with China, according to a press release.

He said that permission to set up donkey farms would be granted under a formal agreement after fulfilling all legal requirements. The agreement would also clearly state that the breeding of the local donkey population would not be affected.

The minister added that the Chinese industry would be allowed to establish farms in the Gwadar Export Processing Zone, where slaughterhouses and export facilities would be developed. This would enable the export of donkey meat to China via the Gwadar Port.

He stated that the initiative would contribute to boosting exports and strengthening trade ties with China, while also creating new economic opportunities and employment through the promotion of the donkey industry.

A high-level meeting between delegations from both countries in October last year agreed to the Protocol on Quarantine Requirements for the export of donkey meat to China.

In July last year, the additional secretary in charge of the Commerce Ministry, Ahsan Ali Mangi, informed the committee that the protocol for donkey skins had been finalized. He also mentioned that the ministry was planning to include donkey meat in the export list.

I thought this was parody news at first but turns out it is a big deal front page headline news. Also Chinese, I can understand eat everything so donkey meat might be a delicacy jn China but donkey skin? What is it used for?

Truth is indeed stranger than fiction. The silence in this thread will be deafening 🙂
Just to put into context: 2-3 days back IK’s sisters were detained by the police. A lot of PP folks are PTI supporters I would assume , the hot topic was map of India and some other random topic.

It is true. There is a flourishing donkey industry in Pak and the demand in China. Donkey skin is used in Chinese medicine apparently.

Both countries deserved it . So Pakistan is best place for the donkey farm according to CHINA. :kp

There is crocodile farm. There is cow farm. There is chicken farm. Nothing wrong with a donkey farm.

Not sure why Indian posters are ridiculing this. Maybe Chinese people use donkeys for different purposes. Donkey is a very useful creature.

Would Indians like it if someone makes fun of cow urine (which is drunk by many in India)? I think Indians should respect Chinese culture. :inti

Good to see Pakistan's donkey resources being acknowledged, Chinese couldn't have chosen a better country for their khotteya di supply.
China is unlocking Pakistan economic potential by establishing a donkey farm in Pakistan :kp

I'm pretty sure your opinion would have been exactly the opposite if the country in question was India instead of Pakistan.

You won't see many indians in this thread now
They Will be on a run as usual after being caught trading 61% of their donkeys to China from 2012-2019

Pakistan's donkey breeding ability is no joke brother, Bharat can't keep up. Chinese are going for the most reliable long-term donkey powerhouse.
But donkey is just another animal like the cow... If beef can be exported by India, then why not donkey....??

Market brother. For every donkey born in Bharat, there's 50 born in Pakistan. Bharat can't stay competitive against this seemingly infinite donkey supply Pakistan has.
