Respect for BCCI and Indian govt increases multi-fold seeing how unprofessional and naive the PCB and it's government are.. Literally a government is used as a medium to negotiate the benefits of two independent cricket bodies and the government doing a great U turn immediately after negotiation is over..know Pak has a pathetic ruling government, however this is way beyond that. Pakistan is once again proved as fools paradise..

Also, you are wrong in assuming PCB can arm twist ICC, the thing with blackmail is that you get to do it only once against a competent party. PCB’s only leverage is used and exhausted.

Wait for next MPA and you will see clauses specifically for situations like this.

Pakistan needs ICC as much as ICC needs Pakistan given that 50% of PCB’s revenue comes from ICC.

Regarding BCB penalising part, show me where did ICC say that they will penalise Bangladesh?

Pakistan is given an off-ramp to save face against the general populace but the rest of the world has seen this happening from miles away.

Out of interest what do you think wider view of Indian PM is and his dancing at request for paedophiles and the one you are calling TACO? So you are not standing Infront of us from a position of any strength and credibility when it comes credibility of politicians.

I don't think the rest of the world saw intervention of Sri Lankan President. It's practically unheard of. Do you think his job is to provide off ramps to other countries for cricketing disputes?

This is a frankly a very naive understanding of the issue. It's not surprising. We have seen how your media operates, but still we would expect some modicum of common sense despite the media penetration.

Sri Lanka President thanks Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif for India boycott U-turn​


Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake penned a thank-you note to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after Pakistan confirmed it would play India in their much-awaited ICC Men’s T20 World Cup clash in Colombo on February 15. The message came soon after Pakistan made a dramatic U-turn on its proposed boycott, clearing the way for the tournament’s biggest fixture to go ahead as scheduled.

The India vs Pakistan match had briefly been thrown into uncertainty after Pakistan floated the possibility of refusing to take the field. However, following an extended meeting on Monday involving the PCB, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistan reversed its stance and confirmed it would play the fixture as scheduled. Taking to X after the decision, Dissanayake expressed relief and gratitude, while acknowledging the efforts made behind the scenes to keep the contest intact.

“Thank you, Prime Minister @CMShehbaz for ensuring the game we all love goes on. Delighted that the eagerly awaited India and Pakistan match at the ongoing T20 Cricket World Cup in Colombo will proceed as planned," he wrote.

“As co-host of the tournament, Sri Lanka thanks the @ICC and all concerned for their efforts. Sri Lanka hasn’t forgotten the solidarity shown by both India and Pakistan during the 1996 World Cup, when they played in Colombo at a time when others refrained due to security concerns," he added.

Pakistan’s change of stance followed a series of high-level talks involving the PCB, the ICC, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The meeting in Pakistan's Gaddafi stadium, which stretched for at least five hours, was aimed at ensuring that the World Cup’s most high-profile and profitable match was not derailed.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi later briefed Prime Minister Sharif on what was discussed and the outcomes achieved. Soon after, the Government of Pakistan confirmed through its official social media account that the national team would take the field against India on February 15.

Sharif said the decision was shaped by requests from “friendly countries,” naming Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the UAE, along with the progress made through multilateral discussions with ICC officials.

In the build-up to the announcement, BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul also urged Pakistan to play the match, stressing the importance of keeping the tournament’s marquee fixture on track. Sri Lanka Cricket, too, had reportedly written to the PCB earlier, asking them to reconsider their refusal.

Pakistan’s initial boycott threat was linked to its support for Bangladesh, who were removed from the tournament after citing security concerns. Pakistan signalled it would not play against arch-rival India as a show of solidarity with Bangladesh’s position.

However, the scale of an India-Pakistan World Cup fixture meant the pressure to reverse course mounted quickly. With intervention from the ICC and strong persuasion from co-host Sri Lanka, Pakistan ultimately stepped back from the boycott call.

The U-turn ensures the February 15 clash in Colombo will proceed as planned, keeping the tournament’s biggest rivalry alive where it matters most, on the field.

Considering the amount of international tournaments there are and how only a handful countries play cricket, Bangladesh should have hosted atleast one major cup by now.

And seeing every other tournament happening in lousy pitches of India with one sided crowd is equally boring and quite honestly messed up when others don't get to host solely. You have robbed the game so it's good atleast Bangla humiliated India by not traveling to India, and Pakistan one tweet causing havoc in India so that had its own moment

Well, Indian government has outrightly denied any such claims made by a convict. You can choose to believe it since it serves your interest. What Pak PM’s tweets in broad daylight is straight from horse’s mouth.

If Pak’s PM words are so weak that they crumble at the first demand from another country, that too Sri Lanka no less - then its better not to make such mighty statement in first place.

Going forward, ICC and all other board know that all it takes is fear of sanctions and a call from small board to make PCB dance and twist. This is the precedence PCB has set here.

They have:

1998 Champions Trophy
2011 World Cup (co-host)
2014 World T20

Along with some Asia Cups and U-19 Cups. For a bunch of eternal minnows, I'd say that is actually pretty good. Remind me how many Zimbabwe/Ireland have hosted?

Going by reports, ICC as reportedly promised to Bangladesh that they will get hosting rights for an ICC tournament between 2028-2031.

The two ICC tournaments during this time scheduled to happen in Asia are as follows :-
  • ICC Champions Trophy 2029 >> India alone
  • ODI CWC 2031 >> India & Bangladesh as co-hosts

What is Bangladesh getting additionally now that they didn't have before? They were already the co-hosts for the 2031 ODI CWC.

Is the ICC saying they will now also give co-hosting to Bangladesh for ICC Champions Trophy 2029? or Will the ICC remove India as host and award full hosting rights to Bangladesh?

What do you make of it?


Also, Why Pakistan did not demand its inclusion in any of this after being in the best possible position to negotiate with the ICC in a long long time?

If Indians have any diginity, they wouldn't take the field on Feb 15th after all the trauma Pakistan has put them through since the tweet and considering all the jawan blood lost Pakistan has apparently caused upon them. But we know their blood is cheap, just like their dignity and shamelessness, they ll be glued to screens in a billion come 15th

- Wasn't penalized financially by BCCICC. Also, getting a share of the World Cup revenue.
- Selected to host another ICC event before 2031 WC (where they are also the co-hosts).

Pakistan/PCB has shown how desperate India is for Pakistan game. Each game can give them over $300-million in revenue.

So, if Pakistan don't play India, it hurts BCCICC massively.

This is why they were begging Pakistan to play. They even offered concessions to both BCB and PCB. LOL.

Read the statements. What pcb wanted, what bcb wanted, what bcb said in its statement. Win win for PCB, BCB, Bd and Pk. Bringing bccicc to its knees and begging them to end the boycott was a win itself. Now we all truly know the power of Pakistan crciket/pcb, the worth of Pak playing icc event match v India. No more bs and dadagiri. Fans are better aware. So next time bccicc have to be careful about upsetting them.

Make no mistake, this is simply reciprocity towards Sri Lanka for all the goodwill they have shown us. I won't lie, it is disappointing that we went back on our decision, but having good relations with Sri Lanka and BD will pay off in more than just cricket.

You saw the recent U19 game ?

Pak boys were so so desperate of a win against India that they didn't even try to advance to the semi finals by chasing the Target early. In the end, they neither won the match nor got a SF place. 🤣

That is the level of desperation these lot have...thanks to decades and decades of humiliations and beizti.
 
Next 2 editions of world t20 are in Aus/Nz then UK. There shouldn't be any issues there including next ODI world cup in SA.... If the champions trophy goes ahead in 2029 that's when the next round of drama will start between Pak and Ind.
