Pakistan tour of Australia (2024)

Drop-in pitch installed at Perth stadium ahead of Australia-Pakistan series

The Perth Stadium is preparing for a packed summer of cricket, beginning with the installation of a drop-in pitch for the upcoming Pakistan-Australia white-ball series. Interestingly, along with the development, the stadium is on the way to hosting its first international fixture of the season.

After a four-year gap, the Pakistan team is flying to Australia. The tour comprises of three ODIs and three T20Is and is scheduled to begin on November 4 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with Perth Stadium hosting its first match on November 10 for the third ODI.

In collaboration with HG Turf, the pitch was transported using a specialised 30-meter-long, 40-tonne cricket wicket transporter, a piece of machinery exclusive to Western Australia. The technical achievement ensures optimal playing conditions for the upcoming matches.

The venue will host the crucial West Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India (November 22-26), followed by five home matches for the Perth Scorchers in BBL 2024-25, including the season opener against Melbourne Stars on December 15.

Let jahandad complete 2 red ball season we have undercooked our pacers for test cricket by carrying them on white ball tours and their red ball game suffer as a result

Disagree. He has played in List A tournament and performed well. He should be drafted in white ball squad (not in future tests until he play a full QEA season).
The issue is that when these players become permanent member of pak international team, they never go back and play domestic
Only younis khan was a player who used to play domestic plus club level matches when he was a great test player.

Jahandad should be included in Zimbabwe series with many other deserving youngsters. However, for Australia we shouldn't include him. He is young in his career and Australia is a tough place for any player.

Jahandad should be there. He has been performing well with shaheens and also in champions cup recently.

And how will he play full QEA season if he is in white ball squads you know right the Aus tour clashes with QEA season hence if we want to develop red ball bowlers we should also keep them away from white ball squads

My head is spinning by seeing 4 squads for Australia & Zim tour.

Struggling to process this much info and figuring out playing XI

Only thing I noticed is that Babar Azam is excluded from Zimbabwe your and Rizwan is in all four squads.

Likely ODI Playing 11

1-Abdullah
2-Saim/haseebullah
3-Babar
4-Rizwan
5-Kamran
6-Agha/Irfan
7-Arafat
8-Faisal Akram
9-Amir Jamal/Harris
10-Hasnain/Naseem
11-Shaheen

One of the weakest batting sides I’ve seen being sent to Australia

The only one as weak or poor was the T20 World Cup squad for 2022

PCB are putting too much pressure on an all format player. Riz should have been completely rested for Zim tour. I can see the haters saying that he pushed for his own selection.

Though I would have liked to see Shan Masood at one of the opening slot

Also

He’s a massive threat to Rizwan at number 4
Rizwan can go to opening or Usman can bat at 5, so I don't understand why you would leave out the best batsman

The selectors are pretty clueless and it's no different this time either

The Eng Test series was a fluke by them

Some members of the Test squad will miss the Series in preparation for the first match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against India in Perth. Any members of the T20 squad selected for the first Test will join the rest of the group following the final match in Hobart.

Chair of Selectors George Bailey said: “This group of players have all represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we look forward to them continuing to enhance their international experience throughout this series. We are excited by the mix of experience combined with those closer to the start of their international journeys.

“It is particularly encouraging to have Xavier, Spencer and Nathan back in the national setup. It’s another opportunity for them to continue to show their ability on the international stage, as they have done in the past.”

It won’t really make a difference.
Captain riz will be tactically so brilliant that Aussies will loose all the matches for next 1 year due to trauma.the legend is Martin crowe and viv combo 🙃

Playing Australia in Australia and that too in early summer is a challenge too far, Pakistan will be blanked 6/0.

Rizwan the captain will be tested from head to toe add to it the long boundaries will make a mockery of our malnourished players.

Slapstick comedy these 6 games will be, Rizwan might be fined for slow-over rate due to his theatrics.

Close circles telling arrangements already being made for special sermon in a Adelaide's mosque

You never wanted it? You shared an article from Jang claiming Kirsten wanted Rizwan. You also quoted a verse from the Quran to express your happiness.

People will testify to this. I’m shocked to you the lack of faith you have in the guy you people claimed is the only option available.

This is a social platform so I share the news , yes there are lack of options I want Rizwan to succeed but the ground reality is different, Pakistan ODI side is at its lowest point.

Agha hasn't even played a t20i for Pakistan yet and he's just randomly been chosen as the vice-captain. His domestic t20 SR is 118. How was this the best choice lol.

Pakistan will suprise the whole nation. In a positive way. And rizwan will be hailed as the captain who won a series in aus

So in 4 days time.

No climatization needed when it comes to limited overs?

Australia’s batting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell during a program on local channel:

“They [Pakistan] are very hard to prepare for and I suppose get ready for because you’re just not sure what could happen and they are so dangerous in all areas of the game. They’ve got good spinners they’ve got good quicks up front and they’ve got batters that can win games for them.”

“I think you are gonna see those ebbs and flows when you play against them in this white-ball series and it’s gonna be so entertaining because they play an amazing brand of cricket where literally anything could happen. It’s gonna be hard for us to stay in our own bubble and concentrate on our own things because they can be super destructive to whatever plans you’ve got”.

Maxwell who are you trying to fool, we will drop catches , do miss fields, and our favorite batting collapses

haha he is just mocking them lol

Warner has retired and Travis/Marsh/Carey(who looked like Australia's 2nd best batsman in England recently) are all absent from the squad.

Pakistan won't get a better chance to win an ODI series in Australia.

The bowlers are still there though, so it would be a challenge.

They don't have a proven batting lineup. McGurk, Connolly etc. are nobodies in this format.

Can't count on the likes of Maxwell or Stoinis to score the bulk of the runs.

It's as weak as it gets.

Bowlers can only defend if that lineup puts up something.

Pakistan is also new look and under new captain. And Australia obviously will have home advantage, so whoever plays for them will be more experienced in Australian conditions, but I still expect good fight from Pakistan after failure in first game.

Lol their nobodies come from Australia domestic cricket system not Pak domestic cricket..
Their McGurk and Connolly can make 100s and can match prime Babar

sure they can.. as i always said they have the players to win matches but the friendship and laid back approach keep them behind and hands tied... The stubbornness from MISBAH to BABAR in injecting new and young faces omg cant say more... first of all the selection committee has taken a wonderful step by bringing in new and fresh faces especially in the spin department and not recycling old TTFs..

Arafat minhas, Faisal Akram , Sufiyan Muqeem are great selections and time to look forward with these guys.. Arafat minhas will be a great allrounder in the making , hop they stick with this lot

McGurk and Connolly average 31 and 17 in List A cricket
Mcgurk will eventually get up their.

Aussie critics are hyping him as the next best thing and unlike pakistan, they don't throw around words such as saim ayub is the next saeed anwar for nothing.

Fraser has been hyped up as the perfect replacement for Warner and he'll get their

Even if he does get there eventually , it's not going to be in this series. I was talking specifically for this series.

This series will blossom him and it's his best chance.

Minus Husnain, He literally had nothing to worry about?

Shaheen couldn't even take a single wicket in a low level league and was a run machine? All of shaheen's wickets were tail enders? Naseem ain't a big deal either. The spinner sent are garbage?

These boys are still professional cricketers. I highly doubt they'll struggle against such a bowling attack.

Saeed Bin Nasir (coach), Abdul Saad (coach), Imtiaz (physio) and Taimoor Mehmood (trainer)

This series will come down to enjoying the challenge of playing in Aus conditions and having the hunger, desire and attitude to succeed in Aus conditions.

The batters mindset needs to be to score big match winning hundreds and win games and the bowlers need to be aggressive , take wickets and win games.

Fielding and catching will ultimately decide the series.

All the best to the lads and to Riz in his first assignment as skipper.

I didn't really believe that stat so I went and had a look for myself. It's unbelievable Pakistan have won just 2 games in Australia in the last 20 years

Nothing fake about my stats. You're checking only ODIs. I included every form of cricket - Tests, ODIs & T20s

India doesn't have a proud record either - only 21 wins in 63 games. But at least we're competitive

Fair enough.

india has toured Aus more often in recent times where as Pakistan visit s are few and far between.

By the time another Aus tour comes it s a new bunch of players who don't acclimatise to conditions.

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley defends selections in ODI loss to Pakistan

Cricket Australia's CEO has insisted the ODI series loss to Pakistan was disappointing after a former captain criticised selectors for not caring about the result.

World Cup-winning captain Michael Clarke accused Australia, the reigning 50-over champions, of not being fussed about their ODI series against Pakistan in the wake of the 2-1 defeat.

Speaking on the Big Sport's Breakfast radio program, Clarke said selectors "didn't care about losing" as several players were rested for the third ODI.

"I'm just a bit confused. So 11 days between now and the first Test [in Perth], why can't the Aussie boys who are part of this Test series play in the one-dayer?" he said on Monday.

"If Australia had won the first two games, then you can understand why they rest their big fish, but it was [the] series on the line."

Several players from Australia's World Cup-winning side were nowhere to be seen during the series decider against Pakistan. Former skipper Michael Clarke says it is symbolic of a larger issue in cricket.

Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head missed the entire series while on paternity leave, while Test stars Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne were all absent for the series-deciding eight wicket loss on Sunday.

Cricket Australia's CEO Nick Hockley defended the selection of the team during the ODI series at a press conference on Tuesday.

Hockley called the series result "extremely disappointing", but highlighted the importance of giving young players exposure to international cricket ahead of a five-Test series with India, two Tests in Sri Lanka, and then the 50-over Champions Trophy.

"We have been criticised in the past, but not giving new players an opportunity to come in," he said.

"I think there's a there was a plan in place, and that plan was really to make sure that our all-format players were absolutely peak condition for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series.

"This was obviously a massively disappointing result, but I think a really good opportunity to expose some of the talent was coming through to the pressures of international cricket."

Australia and Pakistan will now play three T20s before the first Test against India begins in Perth on November 22.

The five tests in the Border-Gavaskar series will be played in a six-week block, before Australia then travels to Sri Lanka for two Tests.

The Champions Trophy in Pakistan will then be held in February and March, concluding a hectic summer of cricket for Australia.

Hockley said the summer schedule will also need to be addressed to ensure it is travel-friendly.

India will come to Australia's shores for a white ball series, but no dates have been confirmed.

It will happen before that summer's Ashes series against England.

"What this schedule has really shone a spotlight on is the travel schedule into such a big series is critical," CA boss Nick Hockley said on Tuesday.

"This is about thinking ahead and getting players through in the best possible condition.

"As we look to the schedule for next year ... we'll make sure that the travel schedule is optimised so we can continue to put our best possible 11 on the field."
