What's new

Pakistan v Afghanistan | Match 36, World Cup | Leeds | 29th June, 2019 | Pakistan innings

I am hoping Imam also gets some runs today. Both Fakhar and Imam havent been able to convert their starts in the WC. Though Imam was bit unlucky on occassions.

Who are the others who are qualified then?

India...NZ....Aus....

Pak & England competing for the 4th spot no.

Lot Depends on india tommorow . NZ will play the last match like a dead rubber and will probable rest some key players. So india need to beat england if pakistan want to qualify.

NZ hasnt qualified at the moment but if they win today then they will qualify. If they would have lost then they would also have been competing with Eng, Pak, BD for the 3rd and 4th spot.

India will do it’s best to win against England.

They would like to make sure they are confirmed semi-finalists tomorrow.

Still surprises me why Imam didnt took the first ball today when he is clearly more comfortable and technically more equipped to face Mujeeb

Babar needs to learn to use his feet against spin , comes very handy to curb the spin on the ball. Also nees to add regular sweep shot into his shot bank , he plays slog sweep but not regular sweep.

Babar is the Tendulkar of Pakistan.

Not talking about quality.

But importance of his wicket and maturity to carry the batting.

Hopefully some Pakistanis get to see what Tendu really was....as Babar matures and grows in stature.

---

If Afghans get Babar out, game changes.

If Pak chases this I think so spin shouldnt be a problem for them in other game or games. As clearly Afghanistan spin attack is one of the best with most variety.

Pak batsmen just need to take it easy, its a pretty small total and a lot of overs to go.

Because Imam is a coward. How his fans can cheerlead him on with sub-70 SR is deplorable really.

Imam shouldnt be worrying about respecting the good balls and playing dots today.

Babar consistently struggles to pick spinners from the hand when they flight the ball. He has this chink in his armour.

He handles the pressure better than the most in Pak lineup and even others of his age so I wont say that is the reason.

Question for all.

Would you guys be proud if Pak misses out semis even if they have won all of their last 4 matches?

He is improved a lot, ball from Kuldeep could have gotten anybody I think.

Before today's innings his SR was under 70 for the WC and averaging 28, yet everyone wants to pick on Fakhar, who also before today, was averaging 28 but at a far superior strike rate.

People quickly forget that Fakhar is the first and only Pakistan batsman to score over 200 in an ODI

They look unsettled outhere for no reason lack of confidence probably.

They both are inexperienced at the moment so I can understand that. This is one of the reasons Pak team hasnt been very consistent lately as many players are still in development. In 2-3 years many of these young guys will be carrying themselves much better. Babar and Imam still look more confident then many young batsmen I have seen.

Just because he scored 200 once doesn’t mean he should keep getting selected and not be criticized for his performances. He has been a liability throughout this World Cup and had we selected another option he should have been replaced but unfortunately we are stuck with him

Don't you realise Ali Warner and Mohammed Sharma are just sitting on the bench waiting for a callup ?

Our fanbase are toxic, no patience or ability to see everyone has different roles in the side. We already have enough accumulators so why drop the only genuine boundary hitting opener we have ?

So far no Rashid. I wonder how he bowled after the Eng game, or is this their first game after Eng game?

He is having a poor world cup alongside Fakhar. Imam’s first 50 runs are always a bit slow which he needs to work upon but once he carries on which he should with the kind of game he has, he makes up his SR.

Man Nabi is a good bowler, Mujeeb bowled well so far, we all know Rashid, this is not a walk in the park. They almost beat Ind. Here is Rashid.

Rasid against Babar. Oh dear. Would have preferred imam to face him first

Don’t mind him to go slow in the beginning as long as he averages 50+ and sets the stage for the middle order.

True. I am not even hopeful that he will improve his strike rotations and gameplay of his first 50 runs as well, we just need to give him sometime as he hasnt even played 50 ODIs yet.
