"Pakistani batsmen aren't used to chasing big scores, don't know how to pace innings" : Salman Butt

Kamran Akmal and Salman Butt speaking on TV:

Kamran Akmal

"Our cricket in UAE is making it difficult for us. We don't get pitches that we need like the ones we play in Australia, South Africa. In UAE you hit shots on front foot mainly and PCB is working on that so that our batsman can get more accustomed to play on bouncy pitches."

"We haven't been playing well in the shorter formats in the last couple of years leading to our #8 ranking so the win in the 2nd ODI was a big relief."

"Anyone in Umar's position would struggle, like Junaid Khan who has performed well in a game but is under pressure. Anyone making a comeback is under pressure. Umar is coming back after 1.5 years, he was on the bench for the last series. He wasn't given any confidence."

"If Junaid, Hafeez and Umar were given chances against West Indies, they would have more confidence to perform in a tough series against Australia."

"If someone like Inzi can fail in World Cups and get dropped then no one should be safe if they fail to perform, players status in the team completely depends on performance and others should be given a chance if the players in the team are failing."

Salman Butt

"Every part of the world has its own soil and conditions so that results in varying pitches around the world. The point isn't to make bouncy tracks but pitches need to allow run-scoring and 300 should be made and chased. Unless you don't get accustomed to such chases then you won't be able to replicate them in international cricket as you aren't used to chasing big scores and don't know how to pace the innings."

"The era of 240 scores is finished but UAE is still producing such scores. PSL also produced low scores last time. Pitches need to be better and encourage run-scoring."

"Players fatigue easily and you don't have bench-strength when you don't rotate players. Australia have rested Starc and Hazlewood in this series and they didn't play them against SA. Until we don't try other domestic players, we won't build our bench strength."

"Catches win matches and one or two tough chances can be missed but if you give five chances to a team then they won't give you a chance in the match. Pakistan needs to work harder on fielding, coach needs to do more work while the players need to put in effort too. They need to take care of their fitness and fielding."

"It's a professional sport and performers are a part of the team while non-performers will be under pressure, that is natural."

It's funny hearing these comments coming from these 2 who were just batting in the top 3 while Lahore was chasing 200 just a few days ago and the whole team got out for 66. Captain Butt led by example and scored a 2nd ball duck and Akmal scored a blistering knock of 2 from 8 deliveries and then got run out.

Sensible comments from Butt but he himself never sat down in dead rubbers to give chance to others.

I really want to see 180+ scores in psl this time around

They voiced their opinion . May be they were asked about that. But like always some posters think those two don't have the right because they haven't done that either. By that logic we posters don't have the right to comment on the shortcomings of the team.

I think Salman specially made some good points. He didn't say anything about himself but was just saying generally that Pak batters will struggle to put up and chase big scores because they aren't used to it and thus don't know how to do it on a regular basis. Perfectly valid point. His SR is irrelevant.

Salman Butt's opinion was on point. Kamran Akmal's opinion was a bit too defensive for his brother for some reason.

Butt is talking sense (only if the intention is not to intimate his comeback).

He was put in an awkward position by the host ; unlikelythat he would criticise his brother

When out of the team, they all make some sensible comments but once they're back in the side they do the same as they all do.

The irony!

Hahahah that's hilarious. :)))

Pakistani cricketers are all talk

But isn't that exactly the point he is making? Poor pitches resulting into batsmen not being used to bat for long periods. You do not encourage stroke play on such wickets the reason most of our guys are used to tuk tuking themselves into the match.

Not a fan of Butt, but I think most people either haven't read his comments or just did not understand his point.

Salman butt always has intelligent insight to share about the game. Had he been a brainless slogger, he would have been in the team. Too bad for him he's a smart cricketer.

Salman wasn't a master of pacing an innings himself, he was/is a painful batsman to watch and pretty one paced.

Both scored runs at a strike rate of just a little over 70 in the departmental cup.

That may be due to him not learning cricket on pitches with true and consistent bounce? Isn't he saying the the same thing for others as well?

Salman Butt should retire now and become tv analysts when cricket series are on of Pakistan. If he has any sharam he will leave us ALONE AND NEVER COME BACK. Kamran is another fixer who just got away from ICC. Both should be tv analysts so they can feed their families.

Salman Butt is a sensible analyst. Unfortunately he doesn't have the talent to be able to walk the talk but he's spot on with most of his comments.

Salman Butt is very underrated as an analyst. I once saw a Pakistani talk show in YouTube where he was the guest and was very impressed by his comments.

Will have a good career as a pundit.

Well said by Salman butt but Kamran is taking care of his own brother who will be life banned in my point of view.

Let the batsman scores and makes good runs and hit big and make the bowlers to think
