"Pakistani batsmen aren't used to chasing big scores, don't know how to pace innings" : Salman Butt
Kamran Akmal and Salman Butt speaking on TV:
Kamran Akmal
"Our cricket in UAE is making it difficult for us. We don't get pitches that we need like the ones we play in Australia, South Africa. In UAE you hit shots on front foot mainly and PCB is working on that so that our batsman can get more accustomed to play on bouncy pitches."
"We haven't been playing well in the shorter formats in the last couple of years leading to our #8 ranking so the win in the 2nd ODI was a big relief."
"Anyone in Umar's position would struggle, like Junaid Khan who has performed well in a game but is under pressure. Anyone making a comeback is under pressure. Umar is coming back after 1.5 years, he was on the bench for the last series. He wasn't given any confidence."
"If Junaid, Hafeez and Umar were given chances against West Indies, they would have more confidence to perform in a tough series against Australia."
"If someone like Inzi can fail in World Cups and get dropped then no one should be safe if they fail to perform, players status in the team completely depends on performance and others should be given a chance if the players in the team are failing."
Salman Butt
"Every part of the world has its own soil and conditions so that results in varying pitches around the world. The point isn't to make bouncy tracks but pitches need to allow run-scoring and 300 should be made and chased. Unless you don't get accustomed to such chases then you won't be able to replicate them in international cricket as you aren't used to chasing big scores and don't know how to pace the innings."
"The era of 240 scores is finished but UAE is still producing such scores. PSL also produced low scores last time. Pitches need to be better and encourage run-scoring."
"Players fatigue easily and you don't have bench-strength when you don't rotate players. Australia have rested Starc and Hazlewood in this series and they didn't play them against SA. Until we don't try other domestic players, we won't build our bench strength."
"Catches win matches and one or two tough chances can be missed but if you give five chances to a team then they won't give you a chance in the match. Pakistan needs to work harder on fielding, coach needs to do more work while the players need to put in effort too. They need to take care of their fitness and fielding."
"It's a professional sport and performers are a part of the team while non-performers will be under pressure, that is natural."
