Just looking at some disturbing images coming out of B'ham where 20 or so are jumping up and down car etc and causing mayhem etc

Seems that they have a bad reputation in Europe as well but surely other nationalities are also involved yet they dont seem to get so much bad press?

Have lived all over the world and any trouble coming from the expat desi community was 90% of the time Pakistanis (unlike the Indians and Bangladeshis who usually remain low key) and mostly its against other Pakistanis.

In the UAE, whether it be The Shopping Festival, Eid Mela at the Consulate, or any other function you were bound to find a couple of Pakistani "gangs" fighting it out against each other for one trivial reason or another.

When I went to study medicine in Romania which was only the third year since they had started the English program there were already a few gangs established and the main reason was that juniors didn't call the seniors "bhai". I had a very such confrontation on my first day there in an Arab restaurant asking me to call them bhai but they backed off when they saw I was with the Arabs and were fearful of Iraqi owner actually had a sword behind the counter and had chased one of these wannabes around the campus before.

They even hired tigans (gypsies) for 50 dollars (which was a couple of months salary there back in the day) to stab each other (other students that is). And these were all medical students.

When I was in London for a couple of years it was also full of these chavs assembling in their respective neighborhood parks and harassing every and any unknown desi looking person. The hilarious part was that they were all skinny wannabes with those slits in the eyebrows and the lines in the hair and would have run off at the first sign of actual conflict if they were not in a group.

Less said about what I saw in Pakistan, the better.

I can only speak for British Pakistan’s as I don’t know much about Pakistani expats in other countries.

British Pakistanis generally do have a bit of a negative reputation here especially more towards the north of the country. This is becuase a lot of young Pakistanis are known to be trouble makers and tend to move more towards gang culture

Another strange thing I’ve noticed is that for some reason we all tend to be very arrogant and tend to look down on others especially towards Pakistanis back home.

That said, I have also met many good British Pakistanis aswell.

Personally know many Pakistanis who caused trouble with Saudis whilst I lived there. These tend to be from the lower class who are brought in as constructions workers etc. Then again, these people get caught up in fights and arguments back in Pak on a daily basis as well.

I am a firm believer that all nationalities are equally good and bad, especially your coming from the 3rd world. The key differentiator is the immigration policy of the first world country they are moving to.

If it is highly skill based then the immigrants of said nationality will be of higher calibre in terms of education, ability to assimilate and contribution to their place of immigration.

However if the immigration policy is geared towards time of war (refugees) or open borders with low standards of acceptance then the immigrants will be a mixed bag. If enough of the bad apples end up in one place then all of a sudden the reputation of immigrants from that country is severely effected.

For example:
Pakistanis in UK vs USA/AUS
Lebanese in AUS vs USA

Are we talking about immigrants or British Pakistanis? Immigrants being those that have actually come from abroad, British Pakistanis being those raised in Britain.

Seems posters are discussing different groups here.

Seen the video. Nothing too awful (although it is bad). Does the OP think that these types of brawls are unique to Pakistanis?

He thinks that a bunch of Afghans battering each other and a Mercedes with hammers means that Pakistanis are international trouble makers.

It is all about herd mentality. In countries like Germany the biggest group of immigrants are Turks and they are also considered the biggest troublemakers over there.

I imagine the situation is similar in UK. Since the number of Pakistani immigrants is high it causes some of them to follow the herd mentality and cause trouble.
