Share your fav and upcoming songs you like.

Will be cool if you share some underground and unknown songs too so that we can listen to more stuff.

The biggest underachiever in Pak music --> Tahir Aly Shah.

He rocked the underground scenes in late 2000s but for some reason only sang 3-4 songs with his 2 bands.

I havent actually. Never heard of him before.

He is another lost one from our golden generation (2003-2011) of underground musicians.
The guitarist Somair is <3 too

Check out these 2 songs aswell.

Silsilay by Tahir and Somair

Kaanch by Tahir and Somair (especially guitar from 3:49 - 4:05)

Speaking of undergroud/non-mainstream acts, no one comes even close to Poor Rich Boy. The cryptic yet articulate lyrics, the attention to composition, the polish, no one else comes close. They have just the one Urdu song so far (copied below), but they've got a couple of English albums out, and they pioneered the ukulele-driven sound in Pakistan that so many of the newer acts feature nowadays.

This guy is from my university NUST and is a famous singer now.

<3 this medley

I love this video. The acting is superb: the bass player's expressions are spot-on throughout.

P.S. I was a NUSTian too, eons ago...

Woow thats cool.

Stafffaaaa :D

Staffas, and runners, and GCs and NCs and PCs...

I was a grad student. We didn't have to wear uniforms, but I distinctly remember instructions to sport an "officer-standard haircut," wear collared shirts, and only use the officers' restrooms and the officers' mess. There was also the medical prior to joining, where the doctor had to sign off on a number of health issues. I distinctly remember one item asking the doctor to verify that the student "is not ruptured and does not suffer from an inordinate amount of varicose veins." Make what you will of the "ruptured" part.

Thank God it ended.

Maikaday k sabhi peenay walay
Larkhara kar sambhaltay hain laikin
Teri nazron ka jo jaam pee lai
Umar bhar wo sambhalta nahi hai

I like Junoon, Coke studio, Abrar ul Haq and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Thaaaaaaat's all my exposure to Pakistani music. Well my general exposure to music is very limited to begin with.

I guess you are the same guy who has interest in Urdu Shayri, right?

Guys how would you describe what's Pakistani music is like to a non-pakistani / non-south Asian? Without making the the answer sound too intellectual.

Someone once asked me how is Pakistani music like and I embarrassingly had no clue. I was like " I dunno just music in different language."

I would describe it as something like:
Pakistan music (from 2003-2011) is the best, then we had an off period but now we are coming back. Pak music is really versatile. You have awesome songs in every genre. Lyrics, music and composition are usually amazing.

Especially if one understands Urdu then there is none better than Pak music!

Well only when life situation is such that it requires a dose of shayri to lift me up. Not quite an active participant of "bait bazi".

He had another good song named 'pind' but I cannot find it on youtube now. Honestly, I am not liking this newer version of his songs.:sanga

Xulfi and his crew have done really well here. The music is so carefully crafted. One criticism I had of Nescafe Basement was that the visuals just didn't do justice to the music, and the corporate sponsor went overboard with the advertising: in previous seasons, a Nescafe ad would pop up, taking up a big chunk of the screen. They have resolved these issues now.

I thought one of the qawwals looked familiar, and then I remembered that he is Zain Ali, who was on Ghorak Dhanda, from the show's last season. He is a grandson of Rahmat Ali Khan, who was part of Nusrat's group of humnawaas. There is a clear NFAK influence in this song too.

By the way, Nescafe Basement have got a Hazara musician and also a vocalist this time around. Its about time this persecuted community got some promotion and recognition, don't you think?

Xulfi is an underrated Pakistani legend!

He has come along in leaps and bounds since the eP days. eP were fine for what they were, but its quite a journey from grunge-inspired rock to being able to produce something like Haiderium.
