Pakistani Team coaches: too many cooks in the kitchen?

We have had a plethora of coaches come in during this post world cup era. Mohammad Hafeez is the team Director/ Head Coach, Saeed Ajmal is the spin bowling coach, Umar Gul is the fast bowling coach, Adam Holliake is the Batting Coach, Yasir Arafat is the High performance and T20 coach.

I can't imagine what Saeed Ajmal would be doing currently in Australia as all the spinners are either injured or benched.

Holliake doesn't even exist.

The only real work being done is by Hafeez and Gul.

Arafat is running the training camp in Pakistan.

But are their too many cooks in the kitchen?

It's fine. Most top international teams do have multiple coaches for roles. They just got into their roles. Give them at least 6 months before judging. Barring fielding and in particular slip catching, I think we have done above par in last test. I was not expecting our bowling attack (essentially 3rd string) to take 20 wickets. Their planning, selection and approach has been good. Execution is limited partly due to talent, partly due to lack of experience, partly conditions, and little bit of hard luck. Also consider the opposition.

When you have so many coaches there is definitely going to be a difference in opinion and methods. Every coach has his own philosophy.

still food is not getting cooked properly

might be happening due to so many recipies

The team had its heyday (twice) when Intikhab was around.

Time to bring him back so he can be the head chef and show these other cooks how it is done.

I think only head coach (for all 3 formats), batting coach, fielding coach, pace bowling coach, and spin coach are enough. Anything more than that is unnecessary.

Many top teams have plenty of staff and experts. They're just not in media much - quietly do their job.

One thing I don’t understand is the constant chopping and changing of batting and bowling coaches.

If a man has the right qualities and qualifications, why is it that we aren’t giving them rope?

I don’t see why on every tour we have a new batting and bowling consultant only to replace them again next time. What is this achieving?

Just pick the best two guys based on the qualification criteria but let him work with the players for 2-3 years.

Barring a disaster e.g. Waqar this should be more effective over the long term than appointing someone new every 6 months.

What's happening with Arthur and Bradburn then?

They're still on the PCB payroll without being used for anything and till when do their contracts run?

Umar Gul has done a fantastic job on this tour.

Better than Misbah and Waqar put together.

I guess PCB is looking to keep as many former cricketers as possible with them so they can't go to the TV shows and criticize the team and the board officials.

Consistency is important.

The number of coaches is fine as each will be focused on specific players in the squad. However, you need multiple years with the same coach to see true value from their coaching.

Coaches can't just press an on/off button to change a player's game. It will take time and that's where Pakistan goes wrong. They don't give coaches enough time to settle.
