England just about stayed in it, could have been all over if Babar hadn't retired hurt.

Game set and match for Pakistan now, england should start thinking about 2nd test and decide what changes they will need to compete against a strong Pakistan line up.. Right now it’s looking like lions vs Lambs.

Exceptional day's play from Pakistan to put us in a commanding position. Hopefully Babar can come out to bat tomorrow.

There is some uneven bounce from this pitch and given the dry forecast Shadab's legspin may come into the Test too.

I won’t say that. If Ireland can make a match of it after follow on, we would be fools to write England off yet

I think there is Rain forecast for Sunday, i hope Pakistan declares as soon as the lead is around 175. They should aim to chase no more than 60-70 in the 2nd innings.

Excellent excellent stuff from Pakistan.

If Babar can come and push the lead to 200, it's game over - perhaps even an innings victory.

I'm predicting a 9 wicket victory for Pakistan.

Very very pleased.

Dare I say it, tomorrow might be the last day of this Test, assuming we get a full day's play.

I don't care about the "Amir is the best, he's just unlucky" nonsense, but when it comes to getting retired hurt we are a tad unlucky. IIRC in our previous tour Sami Aslam got retired hurt as well, and he was also in the zone.

good day

160+ we'll take
better than nothing
bowling has to be full on tomorrow

looks like pakistan wrapping it up on day 4 or may be tommrow. we cant lose this series now :)

Yeah perfect timing for England that

all good and sweet but we should not jump the gun yet and should be humble even when we are on the upper side, our performance on the field is enough to shut up all the haters and wrist slitters,, hope we can continue the good work but make it clear Poms aren't going down without a fight,,, so we better don't get complacent.

Good day for Pakistan. Hopefully we can get a 200+ lead tomorrow if Babar Azam can bat. I think England are not feeling very optimistic. Mark Wood was speaking after the game and he seemed very very down. Body language + the way he was speaking suggest England camp must be feeling demoralized. We need to capitalize. Hopefully with the new ball we can wreak havoc.

I can't remember Sami Aslam getting retired hurt.

Pakistan are in a very strong healthy position.

England are just about hanging on.

Another proffesional and intelligent performance by Pak. Azhar and Shafiq started the ball rolling with this mentality and it continued right through to the end. Hopefully Babar is ok for tommorow and the rest of the test.

England on the other hand were poor and Joe Root looks lost, a poor captain so far.

From the rolling report at a place that shall not be named :yk2

Forgive us if we keep banging on this particular drum, but it is a small wonder: Pakistan are playing, consistent, sensible, sober cricket. In this Test, it's as if Misbah-ul-Haq's presence in the dressing room for all those years has finally rubbed off on the team. As a beautiful, final screw-you to Misbah, who has endured more screw-yous than most, they have only played this way AFTER he has retired.

:)) :salute

Pak will want as close to 200 lead as they can get. Then Eng will struggle to stay in it.

A bit disappointed that Hasan Ali couldn't stay for a while but even more glad that at the end we were still able to take the batting to another day.

Hopefully Baba is fit tomorrow.

Any official updates on Babar ?

Did he go for an x-ray or not ?

Solid day of batting by Pakistan. Hopefully Babar gets a 100. Don't see this Pom line up getting a big lead.

166 lead, even if England scored 250, Pakistan can chase 84 in 4th Innings. Anderson and Broad are spent forces.

Shadab and Faheem were the highlight of the day for me. They came together at a crucial point when England saw a chance of restricting the lead to around 80. Both played fearless, positive, sensible cricket. These two provide much needed balance to the test team. And Shadab is a proper batsman.

Great performance by Pakistan....

Yes - but England are not out of this. If they score 350 plus- and Saturday will be the best day to bat- Pakistan will not chase 180 plus successfully on a 4th day pitch.
Great day for Pakistan but England can’t be ruled out although Pak SHOULD win. Inshallah.

Yup England are lucky to be just in it. Babar not getting injured would have insured 200 lead

Anyone catch Mark Wood's interview at the end of the day?

Ian Ward: "How would you assess today?"

Mark Wood (with a confused face): "They kept getting scores."

Cracked me up :))

With Babar ruled out I would say England have a real chance. If they can set around 150 they will win

that interview was so depressing lol

Babar will not come out to bat .... doctor has banned him from coming out to bat.....

Yes he shouldn’t now. May be in next innings if we desperately need him for scenario like 20 runs left to chase he should have courage to bat then

Pakistan just needs to bowl well against England's lower order, their top order is walking wicket. Well Done Pakistan. Excellent bowling and batting. Ab thode catches bhi pakdlo toh maza aa jaye

This is going to be one painful defeat if we somehow manage to mess it up and lose from here. Hope the bowlers don't lose the plot in the 2nd innings.

Faheem’s and Shadab’s intent was the turning point so far. Loved it. Older Pak side would have folded with a mere 50 odd runs lead.

Game is set up nicely should be good watching next few days.

If England scores in excess of 275, good bye Pakistan!

i know its Pak but getting shoot out for 100 odd in 2nd dig, not happennig mate, realistically england have to get 200 lead, which mean they have to score 370 plus, which i dont see happening unless we drop more than half a dozen catches,,,

The pitch had deteriorated it seemed. Lots of uneven bounce.

Pakistan have been superb, I can’t recall England being comprehensively blown away like this in the first two days of a home Test for some time.

This match is done and dusted.

It’s just a matter of Headingley now and whether England can restore some respectability - it could already be too late and Pakistan might now run away with the series.

Match isn’t done and dusted yet if England can score 300 in the second dig
