I swear if I see Haris Sohail picked I would not follow a single game.

I know we might be picking 35 players with every tom dick and harry in it due to Covid, but my preferred 15 are as follows:

6. Shadab Khan

Hafeez has not played single odi since 2019 worldcup and going by his recent tussle with pcb he is very unlikely to be recalled for odis

haris has performed decently in odis recently not sure he deserves to be dropped?

Haris’s last set of ODIs was 2 years ago. Since then he has flopped across T20Is, Tests, and Pakistan A matches and his fitness has become even worse. That’s the present tense argument.

Now think in terms of the future tense argument: what will Haris Sohail’s fitness be like in 2023?

Thank you Haris for some great memories. You will be remembered. But you should never play for Pakistan again.

Saud Shakeel should be in the squad. Batting at 4 if Haris isn’t going to make it.

Excellent squad.
This indeed is the way to go for now. In all honesty, it looks a very strong team given the form of some of the players as most of them, such as Rizwan, Babar, Shaheen, Hafeez, Hasan and even Faheem have reached a stage where they are mature and producing results.
 
Having imam or abid ali or even both opening in odis is just asking for trouble. Niether are good enough to score quickly early against decent bowlers whether its setting a target or chasing down a big one.

What’s your opinion on Imam ul Haq? As limited as he is, I really can’t think of any other Pakistani opener better than him. Fakhar and Sharjeel are both inconsistent, and Sharjeel in particular is a liability in the field.

Which is why I said, "for now".
Imam is limited but has redeeming qualities with his consistency and grit. However in the long term I am hoping for the emergence of a more gifted batsman.
Perhaps Abdullah Shafiq or even Haider can improve to the point where they can take the spot.

We have seen Rizwan, Hasan, Hafeez and even Faheem emerge/ improve in the last year, so I wouldn't put it past someone else to emerge put of nowhere and make this spot truly his own.

I beleive fakhar should be persisted with in odis. So far in his career he has preformed well against top opposition and has shown more maturity and ability to construct an innings than in t20is. Scored back to back 50s against srilanka i think the last time he played. .

Fair enough. One year ago today, I would have laughed if you told me that Hafeez and Faheem would end up mainstays of the team across all three formats (Hafeez in T20Is but also potentially in ODIs) and Hassan would be so quick to recover both from injury and in form too. If you told me Rizwan would be opening in ODIs, I’d say you were crazy.

Let’s see where this year takes us.

I do generally agree about Fakhar but he went missing during the 2019 World Cup. Also seemed out of form against Zimbabwe. I’m worried about his technique when cramped for room by the pacers which so far he doesn’t seem to have improved upon.

I’ll keep Fakhar around the squad, but Imam is superior as an opener purely due to consistency and Rizwan is a must pick as he’s a keeper. As a result, Fakhar is on my bench as reserve in case Imam loses form.
 
Pakistan should bring in saud shakeel instead of hafeez he also gives you an extra spinning option and will score runs consistanly.hafeez may have got runs in t20s but odis is a different format you stil require patience to build an innings.
