How it works

Each country will play one series of 3 ODIs against eight different countries. 4 home and 4 away series each. There will be 4 teams each country won't play against in a 13 team ODI league. Top 7 plus India as hosts qualify directly for the 2023 World Cup. The remaining 5 countries have to go through a qualifying tournament where they will be joined by 5 other teams just as Nepal, Scotland etc to fight for the last 2 spots to make the 10 team World Cup in 2023. Unlike the Test Championship, everybody will play the same number of games, although you don't play everybody. Gives bilateral ODIs meaning, context and purpose. Finally a clear easy to understand proper league structure for ODIs and pathway for World Cup qualification that all teams have to go through. Not just done on rankings anymore. League will run for 25 months between May 2020 and March 2022. Not just playing for World Cup qualification, but to win the league as well in its own right. Similar to international football outside of the major tournaments in a way. It involves the 12 Test nations and the Dutch.

PAK’s schedule is made without much thinking - AFGs play home game in India.... I am sure ICC knows that. They should have swapped AFGs with BD or Srilanka. They do such grouping (where each team is not playing each other) using a mathematical model based on ranking positions of the teams, so that on papers, each team has more or less similar difficulties, may be with few imposed conditions like no game between PAK-IND. but, for this one they should have revised it manually- swapping BD/SRL for AFGs, it’ll be another tug war.

No it won't.

AFG will host the series in Sharjah.

We'll beat Zimbabwe, West Indies, Netherlands and Afghanistan, and lose to everyone else if the 2020s work out like the 2010s.

Maybe eke out a win over South Africa given their current crisis.

Zimbabwe - bhangra, start of a golden era
New Zealand - bhangra, start of a golden era

No reality check vs New Zealand ? When have we last beaten them in a bilateral Test or ODI series ?

Markhor mate, if we play the Aussie or Kiwi lads at home you'd expect us to win perhaps. Waz Khan says no more games on neutral venues. And the Aussie and Kiwi boys are due to play an away series against us in this league so a good reason to believe those games will be at home. Having said that Saj Sadiq who I regard as the premier Pak Cricket journo going reckons there is a 1% chance of Aus touring Pak in 2022. In which case Pakistan might automatically get the points for their refusal to tour unless there is a clause that Pakistan will only host games at home subject to the away team agreeing?

We have lost 10 ODI series, won 0 series and drawn 1 vs Eng, NZ, SA, Aus in UAE since 2009. Might be a different story at home.

Mind you we lost to India in 2004 and 2006 at home. Lost to South Africa in 2007 and the Sri Lankans in 2009 at home too. Also throw in a tri series final in 2004 where we finished second best to the Sri Lankans. So that is hardly an outstanding record at home.

But still you'd expect results to improve against better ranked sides assuming Pakistan play on home shores.

WT20 2020, WT20 2021 and World Cup 2023 will all be reality checks.

I really don’t know what you keep moaning on. Majority of the posters here know where Pakistan stand in international cricket.
When you support a team you can’t just do that with your mind. Otherwise everyone should support Liverpool in PL and give up all other teams.

As a doctor you should know there is a heart there as well. You support your team no matter how bad it is and you back it to beat every top team, every single match. There is another thing that it will lose some matches and win some matches.

Don’t know what your agenda is but I support my team with mind and heart, not only mind. So these reality checks of yours, really dont know what to reply on that. Should we stop supporting the team? Will you be satisfied then?
