I must admit, I'm really pleased to see Pakistan bumbling around at 110-8 after Australia made 556-9 declared.
This has exposed two things that have been obvious for some time.
Firstly, while Pakistan's geriatrics (Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam and Nauman Ali) produce the goods on favourable pitches, they also fail far more frequently than is acceptable for any international cricketer, let alone one who could have been replaced (Saud Shakeel, Zafar Gohar, et al).
Secondly, they don't do what geriatric cricketers are supposed to do anyway. Geriatric cricketers are supposed to lead from the front, showing everyone why they were winning matches for their country 10 years ago and saving matches for their country 5 years ago.
But these three have the personality of a piece of soggy tissue paper. They show no sign of sticking around or standing up to the opposition. They are weak in their body language and show no leadership qualities whatsoever.
There have been two run outs in the space of 28 overs as panic has set in, with no sign of anybody shepherding the team to safety. Babar Azam is batting quite well, but he is providing no leadership to the men at the other end.
Pakistan needs to do two things.
It needs to dump its failing geriatrics, and it needs a captain with leadership qualities.
