An attack on a bar in the French capital, Paris, has caused several casualties, French media report.

A gunman using an automatic gun opened fire at the Cambodge restaurant in the capital's 11th district. BFMTV says at least seven people were injured.

Liberation newspaper says a number of people have been killed. There is no official confirmation.

Another attack - an explosion - is reported to have targeted a bar near Stade de France

France were hosting Germany in a friendly match.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34814203

The explosion was heard outside the stadium where France and Germany are playing

Was the game called off? Don't want a replay causing a longer international break :srt

Anyway, it's not good news. things haven't been fine and dandy recently in France. Hopefully it all clears up.

Shocking stuff.

Europe needs to act fast, this kind of event is occurring far too often

This is a horrendous terrorist attack, Just dispicable attacking totally innocent people.

Buzzfeed isn't a reliable source but I'll take your word for it.

Other sources confirm too.

Several grenades were thrown towards Gate D of the Stade de France, several bodies have been torn to shreds, according to BFMTV.

60 people are being taken hostage at a concert hall. 18 people dead according to BBC.

That's disgusting.

R I P Victims.

AP report updated death toll - 26 people have been killed. Apparently Kalashnikovs have been used.

This was designed to cause maximum casualties with it being a busy Friday night and an international friendly being played.

Literally don't know what to say anymore guys, deeply disturbing news.

Horrible chain of events

Whoever the purportrators, whatever their motives their actions are abhorrent

The targeting of public places in peaceful areas while people are being tortured in places like Burma and xinjang is the act of cowards and they will surely burn in hell for their dastardly actions while ultimately causing the detention of innocents and the cracking down on other innocent activities all because these people wanted to unleash hell for a night without facing the consequences

Cowards and tools , the lot of them

this looks similar to Mumbai attacks.. coordinated attacks at multiple places to confuse the police force and create panic amongst the populace. Hope the casualties won't be as big as Mumbai

RIP.

Is this ISIS's reply of Jihadi John's death? Police need to get these cowards and destroy them./

This may go down as the worst terrorist attack in Europe since PAN-AM bomb.

Apparently 60 (with some reporting up to a 100) are currently being held hostage at the Bataclan concert hall.

Anyways, is it confirmed who is behind this attack?
Most probably a revenge for Jihadi John's death

Possibly ISIS's involvement? Who else can! ?

I think so, very likely.

Yesterday they attacked Lebanon where 40 were killed - one of the worst attacks since the civil war ended.

Sadly that attack got very little media attention.

Don't be a moron. These attacks in Paris are obviously planned and co-ordinated, and probably took a long time to plan. Jihadi John was killed today. Only a complete idiot would think the Paris killings are directly in response to Jihadi John's death. Unless you're suggesting that the Paris killers had advance knowledge of today's killing of Jihadi John.

The rest of the west really should learn their lesson from France, and understand how strictly they must control migration into their lands.

I say this knowing the vast majority of muslims are very decent and peaceful, unfortunately the nutters the religion seems to have bred are far more violent, intolerant and aggressive than from anywhere else.

This is unfortunately going to make life a lot harder for the decent and peaceful muslims in the west fueling more islamophobia.

Heard some explosions during the France - Germany game, thought it were some pyrotechnics from the fans, but just got informed by my brother about the attacks. Completely baffled ....

Another shooting reported in Paris, at Les Halles shopping mall (Reuters).

Stupid post. There's no evidence yet who they are, where they originate from, how long they have been in France .... so stop making idiotic comments by blaming whole communities.

Germany doesn't have a problem with their Turks or England with their Pakistanis on such a scale. Maghrebi Arabs are a particularly zaleel qaum.

Obama press conf is on now.

Some channels reporting bombings and firing in different areas of Paris.

Reportedly all attacks were coordinated. Various places have been attacked or shattered by gunfights.

I wonder if it was ISIS revenge for the killing of Jihadi John yesterday

How can they plan and execute their plans in one day? The news just came in today about jehadi John.

Realy sad to hear the news from paris. Unfortunately, innocent people being killed everywhere. RIP

Not the time to be having that debate, we've yet to establish who the perpetrators are and their motives for this barbaric and senseless attack.

That's right, blame a whole community. What if a 'Maghrebi Arab' said the same thing about Pakistani's?

BBC reporting that at least 40 are dead now...

This is terrible. What do these animals get out of doing all of this?

Oh they do alright but the numbers speak for themselves sadly for them.

Only a matter of time before we hear reports that the attackers were 'known to authorities'.

where do they keep the army then

200 troops have been sent.

Some streets of Paris were littered with bodies so badly that people from apartments have thrown blankets down to cover them.

President Hollande has declared a state of emergency and has closed French borders.

French President and PM both were watching the match in the stadium when the blast happened.

From inside the Bataclan theatre someone has sent out a message that has spread on Twitter:

"I am wounded. They are shooting all people one by one. On 1st floor"

My Iraqi petroleum lecturer once told us, it's to do with the climate. According to her the extremely high temperatures and dry conditions along with extremely polar weather promotes a particularly volatile temperament in general. Europeans in general are of a more cooler nature due to the more consistent climate - according to her anyway. Though this trends seems to be true as you go further south to the warmer European countries - i.e. Italy.

Reporter on cnn, he managed to run away from the theatre when the terrorist was reloading his gun. He is lucky to have made it out and says he has friends who are hiding in there.

Watsupdoc can we please stop this Islam and Muslim bashing in this thread that some people started? Blame 1.5+ billion muslims for the acts of a few hundred or thousands?

Sending troops now is useless TBH.

Once the attack has started especially against soft targets there is not much they can do.

You only stop terrorist attacks through intelligence - we are talking about an invisible/shadowy enemy.

You don't see Indians, Chinese doing these kinds of things in countries they've immigrated to. Islam is a factor.

Where were such attacks before 9/11 ? The Air India Flight 182 hijacking credit should go to Sikhism ? The West has polarized the climate by constant bombings of Arab countries like Iraq, and Arabs in France want retaliation, nothing more complex.

Looks like some people are keen to score cheap political points.

I think it would take longer than a few hours to organise something like this.

If IS is behind these attacks and as reports are saying there are 100+ hostages in a club so i am wondering what are going to be the demands of IS in exchange?

Why did the "cold" Anglo Saxons erase Native Americans off the world map then, and Viking raids weren't particularly warm either. It's geopolitical.
