Paul Pogba to Juventus: Man Utd midfielder finalising four-year contract at Serie A giants ahead of free transfer

Paul Pogba's representatives are finalising a four-year contract for the player to join Juventus on a free transfer.

Sky Sports News has been told dialogue is "still open" with Paris Saint Germain and it's expected Pogba will announce his final decision in the coming days. The France international has been free to negotiate with clubs over his next move since January.

Manchester United confirmed earlier this month Pogba would be leaving the club at the end of his contract this summer. The move to Juventus would mark a return to a club where Pogba spent four years with before rejoining United in 2016.

As he closes on his 30s, Pogba is aware this could be the last big move of his career and wants to take his time to ensure he makes the right decision.

Manchester City also made a stunning bid to sign Pogba from bitter rivals United, with Pep Guardiola meeting the midfielder and the club drafting a lucrative contract to demonstrate their desire to sign him.

But while the World Cup winner did consider City's offer, he felt the accompanying noise and hate would not be worth it.

Paul Pogba says he wants to show Manchester United they made a mistake in failing to produce a deal that could persuade him to stay at the club.

The France midfielder, 29, was reportedly offered £300,000-a-week to remain with the Premier League club.

However, in a new Amazon Prime documentary 'The Pogumentary', Pogba said the club was "bluffing".

He is expected to rejoin Juventus when he leaves Old Trafford following his contract's expiry this month.

In the documentary, which is to be released on Friday, Pogba discusses his future with his former agent Mino Raiola, who died following a long illness in April.

In footage seen by the PA news agency, Pogba said: "My thought process is to show Manchester that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract... and to show other clubs that Manchester had made a mistake in not offering me a contract."

BBC Sport understands United offered Pogba a more lucrative offer than his previous deal, but the Frenchman is filmed saying the club were "bluffing".

He added: "How can you tell a player you absolutely want him and offer him nothing? Never seen that."

Pogba, who first joined the United academy from Le Havre as a 16-year-old in 2009, was allowed to leave United on a free transfer and join Juventus in 2012.

He won four Serie A titles with Juve before returning to United for a then world record fee of £89m in August 2016. Two years later he played an influential role in helping France win the World Cup in Russia.

But Pogba struggled at United and had a strained relationship with then-manager Jose Mourinho.

His former agent Raiola is filmed saying: "We must try to make you feel as good as when you are with the French national team.

"You're different with them. You understand? You're another Pogba with the Manchester United team. It's not normal.

"With the France team, you're the real Pogba, the Pogba of Juventus, the Pogba that everyone loves. With Manchester, there's something blocking you."

BREAKING: Juventus have reached an agreement to sign Paul Pogba on a free transfer.

Paul Pogba is set to rejoin Juventus on a free transfer after his Manchester United contract expired.

It is understood the 29-year-old France midfielder will have a medical at the weekend before completing the move.

Pogba joined United from the Italian side in 2016 for a then world-record fee of £89m.

United and Pogba failed to agree on a new contract and the club confirmed at the start of June that he would leave as a free agent this summer.

It is anticipated Pogba will begin training with Juventus next week prior to their trip to the United States, where they will face Barcelona and Real Madrid on 27 and 30 July respectively.

For the second straight season, Juventus finished fourth in Serie A, 16 points behind champions AC Milan.

They had been Italian champions for the preceding nine seasons, with Pogba playing a key role in their title wins from 2012-13 to 2015-16.

He scored 34 goals from 178 games in his previous spell with Juventus having also joined on a free from United in 2012, after coming through the Old Trafford academy.

During his first season back at Old Trafford, Pogba helped United win the EFL Cup and Europa League but they would prove to be the only trophies he won in his second spell.

A disagreement with then manager Jose Mourinho saw him lose the vice-captaincy in 2018 and injuries and sporadic form reduced his impact.

Pogba, who joined the United academy from Le Havre as a 16-year-old in 2009, was influential as France won the World Cup in Russia in 2018 and scored 16 goals for United in 2018-19.

But over the last three seasons he scored eight goals from 91 appearances, with one from 27 last term.

"It was a low-key end to a United career that brought so many individual high moments," read a United statement earlier this month when they announced Pogba was to leave.

United offered him an extension and BBC Sport understands it was a more lucrative offer than his previous deal but in an Amazon Prime documentary 'The Pogumentary', he said the club was "bluffing".

Pogba scored 39 goals in 233 appearances across his two spells at the club but his final home appearance against Norwich City in April saw him jeered by his own supporters as he was substituted.

He expressed gratitude for the "unconditional support from the fans" in a message on social media following the club's announcement that he was leaving.

Paul Pogba: Juventus complete re-signing of France midfielder from Manchester United

Paul Pogba has completed his return to Juventus on a free transfer, six years after leaving to join Manchester United for a world-record transfer fee.

The Serie A club reached an agreement to sign the Frenchman on a free transfer on a four-year contract last week.

Pogba was expected in Turin on Saturday for a medical and to formally sign the contract.

The France international had been free to negotiate with clubs over his next move since January.

Juventus released a statement after Pogba's return was confirmed. It read: "When we say goodbye after an intense adventure shared together, there is always a glimmer of hope that we will see each other again, sooner or later.

"With Paul that is exactly what has happened. In 2016 our paths parted after four incredible years.

"Years in which a talented young French player went from making his First Team debut when still a teenager to scoring his first goal less than a month after making his bow.

"Years in which we learned to hold our breath in anticipation every time we saw him take aim from outside the box, because we knew how it could, and often did, end - with a roar of joy.

"To be precise, Paul scored 14 times from outside the penalty area in his four Serie A seasons, head to head with Miralem Pjanic at the top of that specific scoring chart.

"Years in which Pogba emerged as a world-class talent, winning trophy after trophy in the black and white stripes, and coming close to Champions League glory in 2015.

"He set up 12 goals in his last season in Turin to leave with a tally of 34 goals scored and 32 assists provided, making him a direct participant in 66 goals overall.

"Then we said goodbye, and in the meantime his talent and power came to the fore when as an integral part of his national side he contributed to France's World Cup 2018 triumph.

"Although we parted ways, we never really forgot about each other, and there is something ancestral in the call that after a thousand adventures eventually leads you back home.

"Paul is back in Turin. He left as a boy and returns as a man and a champion, but there is one thing that has not changed - the desire to write unforgettable pages of club history together once more.

"Pogba is back and we couldn't be happier."

France midfielder Paul Pogba says "a bit of everything" in terms of "coach, team, position" had "blocked" him at former club Manchester United.

The 29-year-old has rejoined Juventus after leaving United following his deal with the Old Trafford club expiring.

"I'm happy with the choices I've made in my life," he said.

"Sometimes you make choices that don't go your way but I'm happy with the years in Manchester. I grew up, I learned, I became a man."

Pogba, who came through United's academy, left the club in 2012 to join Juventus and won the Serie A title four times with them before moving to back to the Old Trafford side for a then world-record £89m transfer in 2016.

He won the EFL Cup and Europa League with United in his first season back at the club but they were the only trophies he won in his second spell with them.

He played for managers Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick following his return to United and failed to produce his best form on a consistent basis under each of them.

However, Pogba, who has 91 international caps, was influential as France won the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

"Changing [Manchester United] coach every year is hard - this was a difficult aspect for me," said Pogba. "Then there were a few injuries, but I think it was also a mental thing - playing and not playing makes you lose pace.

"There is a bit of everything: coach, team, position. All this has blocked me a bit.

"Now, however, I have left and you will see another Paul. I can do better than in recent years."

Pogba has signed a four-year contract with Juventus, who finished fourth in Serie A last season.

He added: "I am happy to go home, this is how I feel here. This is something more than a dream. I am very happy.

"There were other teams interested, but my heart chose Juventus. I was fine here before and I'm fine now, I just want to do well.

"I can't wait to start and help the team. I hope to do better than last time."

Paul Pogba: Juventus midfielder says he is target of organised gang

Paul Pogba says he has been the target of extortion and threats from an organised gang.

The Juventus and France midfielder issued a statement through his lawyers on Sunday saying the matter had been reported to the authorities.

News agency AFP, citing a source, said French police had opened an investigation.

Earlier, Pogba's brother Mathias posted videos online promising to publish "great revelations" about the player.

Mathias Pogba said the information was likely to be "explosive", without giving further details.

"They are in addition to threats and extortion attempts by an organised gang against Paul Pogba," read the statement.

"The competent bodies in Italy and France were informed a month ago and there will be no further comments in relation to the ongoing investigation."

A World Cup winner with France in 2018, Pogba moved to Juventus on a free transfer this summer after leaving Manchester United.

In his videos, Matthias Pogba said the "whole world, as well as my brother's fans, and even more so the French team and Juventus, my brother's team-mates and his sponsors deserve to know certain things".

He said the revelations would also involve Pogba's agent, Rafaela Pimenta.

Paul Pogba claims he is being threatened by gangsters who are trying to extort him.

Police in France have opened an investigation into the footballer's claims, according to the AFP news agency.

It comes after the Juventus star's brother claimed he was planning to make "great revelations" that would make fans and teammates look at him in a different light.

Mathias Pogba's social media video also promised to reveal "very important things" about Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe - as well as questions of "integrity" regarding Pogba's agent Rafaela Pimenta.

He said: "I believe the French, Italian and English public, my brother's fans, and even more - the French national team, the Juventus team, my brother's teammates, and his sponsors, deserve to know certain things in order to make an informed decision whether he deserves the admiration and respect and love of the public."

Publishing the clip in four languages, Mathias Pogba - who has played for the likes of Crawley Town and Partick Thistle - says his motivations will be revealed in time, and his allegations are "explosive".

In a statement, Paul Pogba's lawyers, mother and agent said: "The recent declarations of Mathias Pogba on social media are unfortunately not a surprise. They are coming after threats and attempts of extortion by an organised gang against Paul Pogba.

Firefighters from all over Europe battle 'monster' blaze in France as others burn in Portugal, Germany and Spain

"The competent bodies in Italy and France were informed a month ago and there will be no further comments in relation to the ongoing investigation."

Responding to the statement on Sunday evening, Mathias Pogba posted a flurry of tweets with more unsubstantiated claims - and wrote in French that "people will see that there is no more coward, more traitor and more hypocrite than you on this earth".

Pogba is currently sidelined with injury at Juventus but is expected to return soon and be part of the French team at this winter's World Cup in Qatar. He formerly played for Manchester United.

Juventus and France midfielder Paul Pogba is to have surgery on a knee injury and could be a doubt for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Pogba, 29, suffered the injury in July and has not played yet this season.

France's first World Cup match is against Australia on 22 November.

"This morning Pogba trained for the second time, but then stopped, and it was then decided that he undergo surgery," said Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri.

"We will realistically get him back in January."

The Serie A season will pause after games on 13 November for the first winter World Cup and restart again in January.

Asked if Pogba would be ready for France's World Cup defence, Allegri added: "The World Cup is not my problem, Juventus' problem is that he comes back in January."

Pogba rejoined the Serie A side this summer after his contract with Manchester United expired.

He scored in the 4-1 win over Croatia in 2018 as France won the World Cup for a second time.

Paul Pogba: Juventus midfielder's brother Mathias charged over alleged extortion plot

Mathias Pogba has been charged and detained over an alleged plot to extort money from his brother Paul, the France and Juventus midfielder.

Four other people have also been placed under formal investigation for extortion and criminal association, judicial sources told news agencies Reuters and Agence France-Presse.

Mathias Pogba's lawyer, Yassine Bouzrou, said his client is innocent.

He told French broadcaster BFMTV: "We are going to challenge this decision."

Mathias Pogba, 32, has admitted he was behind a video that appeared online last month promising "revelations" about the 29-year-old Juventus midfielder.

French prosecutors opened a judicial investigation earlier this month after former Manchester United player Paul said he was the target of extortion and threats from an organised gang.

He filed a complaint with Turin prosecutors on 16 July claiming he was the target of a 13m euro (£11.29m) blackmail plot.

A World Cup winner with France in 2018, Pogba moved to Juventus on a free transfer this summer after leaving Manchester United.

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba will miss France's World Cup defence in Qatar as he needs more time to recover from a knee operation.

Pogba, 29, has not played for the Serie A side this season since re-joining from Manchester United in the summer.

He suffered a knee injury in July and initially opted not to have surgery in a bid to be fit for the tournament.

France's first World Cup match is against Australia on 22 November.

In a statement on Monday, Pogba's agent Rafaela Pimenta said: "Following yesterday's and today's medical review in Torino and Pittsburgh, it is extremely painful to inform Paul Pogba will still need recovery time from his surgery.

"For this reason, Paul will not be able to join Juventus' squad before the World Cup break nor the French national team in Qatar."

Pogba, whose last appearance for France came in a 5-0 friendly win over South Africa in March, returned to training early last month before opting for surgery, which had kept him on the sidelines until two weeks ago when he recommenced partial training with Juve.

Italian media reports on Monday also suggested that Pogba had sustained a thigh injury to further set back his recovery, while Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri recently said it was "very unlikely" that the midfielder would play for the club before the World Cup.

BBC

Paul Pogba has been dropped for Juventus' Europa League tie with Freiburg for disciplinary reasons.

It is understood the France midfielder, 29, was late for a team meeting on Wednesday and Juve coach Max Allegri opted not to name him in his squad for Thursday's first leg in Turin.

It is the latest setback for Pogba since rejoining the Serie A club from Manchester United last summer.

He only played the first game of his second spell with Juve on 28 February.

Pogba's previous appearance was for United in April 2022, when he suffered a calf injury in a 4-0 defeat at Liverpool which ruled him out for the remainder of last season.

The midfielder then suffered a knee injury in pre-season but initially opted not to get an operation, fearing it would rule him out of the World Cup.

But he was later deemed to need surgery anyway and, although he returned to the squad in January, he suffered another muscular problem that delayed his return to action further.

Pogba came off the bench in a 4-2 win over derby rivals Torino before making his second substitute appearance in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Roma.

A very serious finding, if B sample doesnt clear him, he's look at a 4 year ban!

Paul Pogba: Juventus midfielder provisionally suspended for anti-doping offence

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been provisionally suspended from playing because of an anti-doping offence.

Italy's national anti-doping tribunal (Nado) said Pogba returned a test with elevated levels of testosterone after Juve's 3-0 win at Udinese on 20 August.

France international Pogba, 30, was an unused substitute but was selected at random for post-match drug testing.

If found guilty of doping, he could face a ban of between two and four years.

Juventus said in a statement: "Juventus Football Club announces that today, 11 September, 2023, the footballer Paul Labile Pogba received a precautionary suspension order from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal following the results of tests carried out on 20 August, 2023.

"The club reserves the right to consider the next procedural steps."

Paul Pogba has tested doping positive also to backup sample today.

Juventus will now decide how to proceed with his contract as Pogba faces risk of long-term ban.

Paul Pogba: Juventus midfielder tests positive again in counter-analysis tests as DHEA is found

Paul Pogba will fight to clear his name, Sky Sports News understands, after the counter-analysis ‘B sample’ also returned a positive result for a prohibited substance.

The 30-year-old now has to prove his innocence to avoid a lengthy ban from football - and he intends to have everything he has taken rigorously tested to find how it got into his body.

It has now emerged that DHEA was the substance discovered in both samples, which helps the body produce other hormones, such as testosterone.

After the initial positive result in September and a provisional suspension from playing, Pogba's agent Rafaela Pimenta insisted: "Paul never wanted to break the rules."

And Pogba has no intention of simply accepting the finding, with the player now expected to request a hearing with an independent tribunal.

It will be up to him - not the anti-doping authorities - to prove he did not intentionally break the rules and, contrary to several reports, Pogba did not tell anyone at Juventus that he had taken a banned substance, Sky Sports News understands.

As far as the anti-doping bodies NADO Italia and WADA are concerned, the onus is on the athlete to be clean, and they are 100 per cent responsible for what goes into their body.

But the degree of fault and/or negligence will need to be established to decide whether or not he is banned, and for how long, and there are other factors that could impact the severity of any punishment.

This process can take a significant amount of time and the resulting conclusions can also be appealed but - as it stands - Pogba is facing the very real possibility of a four-year ban from the game.

He could therefore miss next summer's European Championships and the 2026 World Cup in North and Central America. His Juventus contract, which expires in 2026, would be on the line.

The former Manchester United midfielder was provisionally suspended on September 11 after a test taken following the Serie A game against Udinese on August 20 returned a positive result.

Paul Pogba: Former Man Utd and Juventus midfielder faces up to four-year ban after testing positive for testosterone

Anti-doping prosecutors in Italy have requested a maximum four-year ban for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba after the World Cup winner tested positive for testosterone.

Pogba opted not to make a plea bargain with Italy's anti-doping agency, meaning the case will be tried before the country's anti-doping court. At the age of 30, a four-year ban could end Pogba's career.

Four-year bans are standard under the World Anti-Doping Code but can be reduced in cases where an athlete can prove their doping was unintentional, if the positive test was a result of contamination or if they provide 'substantial assistance' to help investigators.

Pogba's positive test was announced in September, stemming from an exam that was carried out after Juventus' game at Udinese on August 20 this year. The France international did not play in the Serie A match but was on Juve's bench.

The midfielder asked for counter-analysis to be made on his positive doping test but those results also returned a positive result.

It emerged that DHEA was the substance discovered in both samples, which helps the body produce other hormones, such as testosterone.

Paul Pogba has been banned from football for four years due to doping offences.

La Repubblica report that Pogba and his team have accepted a four-year ban from the Anti-Doping Prosecutor's Office.

The former Manchester United and current Juventus midfielder tested positive for a banned testosterone after a match against Udinese on August 20, 2023.

Pogba turns 31 in March, and such a lengthy ban could well spell the end of his football career.

bad luck for Pogba, a great promising future is in danger now.

He won a World Cup. Even if his career is over now, I think he can cherish his career.

He is 30 currently. He can easily return at 34 and play for another 4-5 years maybe.

If the ban doesn’t get overturned his career at top leagues is finish, will probably end up making some bucks in Saudi or China league after his ban is over.

Paul Pogba has four-year drug ban reduced to 18 months after successful appeal at Court of Arbitration for Sport

Paul Pogba's four-year drug ban has been reduced to 18 months following a successful appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Pogba, who tested positive for testosterone in the first game of the 2023/24 season, is free to start playing for Juventus again from March next year.

Italy's National Anti-Doping Tribunal (TNA) accepted the request of the Anti-Doping Prosecutor's Office to hand out a four-year ban last March, which is the standard length of ban under the World Anti-Doping Code (WADA). It meant Pogba would not have returned to football until March 2027.

A four-year anti-doping ban can be reduced in cases where an athlete can prove it was not intentional, was the result of contamination, or if they can provide "substantial assistance" to help investigators.

'I'm not a cheater' - Pogba on doping ban

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba said he is "not a cheater" but accepted responsibility for the failed doping test that led to a ban.

Pogba's four-year ban was reduced to 18 months earlier this month after the Court of Arbitration for Sport accepted his ingestion of a banned substance "was not intentional".

The 31-year-old was suspended by Italy's national anti-doping tribunal (Nado) in February after a drugs test found elevated levels of testosterone - a hormone that increases endurance - in his system.

"This is not me, I'm not a cheater," Pogba told Sky Sports.

"I'm someone that loves my sport, I love the game and I would never, ever cheat. I like to win fairly.

"I'm a bad loser but I'm not a cheater."

The reduced ban started from 11 September 2023, with sources close to the Pogba telling BBC Sport that he can resume training in January and will be eligible to play again from March.

"I take some responsibility because I took the supplement, " Pogba added.

"I didn't triple check, let's say it like that, even if it came from a professional. If I have to be punished, I am fine with it, but it should never be four years."

Pogba joined Juventus, reuniting with the Italian club in July 2022 after his contract at Manchester United expired.

He featured just 12 times across all competitions after returning to Turin, with injuries restricting his gametime in 2022-23, while he played just twice last season before he was pulled for the positive test.

Pogba remains under contract with Juventus, his deal is set to expire in the summer of 2026, and is looking forward to getting back to training with the rest of the squad.

"I would just like to be on the pitch, any pitch," Pogba said.

"First it's with Juventus. I want to be on the training with team mates, it's tough to be alone, playing passes on to the wall.

"My main focus is to get back training, be fit and to be on the pitch doing what I love."

Paul Pogba's brother sentenced to three years in extortion case

The older brother of Paul Pogba, former Manchester United midfielder, has been sentenced to a three year jail term, two years suspended, after being convicted of attempting to extort the French footballer.

Mathias Pogba, who was also fined €20,000 (£16,500), will avoid time behind bars and instead serve one year wearing an electronic bracelet.

Five other men were found guilty of extortion and other crimes, and received sentences between four and eight years in a Paris court on Thursday.

Paul Pogba, 31, said he had been "tricked by childhood friends" who held him at gunpoint in 2022 and demanded €13m (£10.8m). He said he paid them €100,000 (£82,600).

Mathias Pogba's lawyer Mbeko Tabula told RMC Sport the sentencing was "extremely harsh" and said "I think we will appeal".

The other five defendants were handed the following sentences: Roushdane K received eight years, Boubacar C four years, two suspended, Adama C five years, Mamadou M five years, 12 months suspended, and Machikour K four years, three suspended.

Last year, Paul Pogba told Al Jazeera that he had considered retiring from football because of the extortion attempt.

"When there is money you have to be careful," he said. "Money changes people. It can break up a family. It can create a war".

Former professional footballer Mathias Pogba played for clubs including Partick Thistle, Wrexham, Crewe Alexandra and Crawley Town. His last club was Belfort in France, leaving them in 2022.

Pogba aiming to return with Monaco after doping ban

Former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is in advanced talks with Monaco as he seeks a return to football after a doping suspension.

The French World Cup winner, 32, is moving towards a return to his homeland with the Ligue 1 side.

BBC Sport understands discussions have revolved around the midfielder signing a two-year contract with Monaco, who hope to close the deal in the coming days.

Talks have been ongoing for a number of weeks, with Pogba training before pre-season as he plots his return to action.

Pogba was provisionally suspended after being randomly tested following Juventus' opening game of the 2023-24 season against Udinese.

He later received a four-year ban which was slashed to 18 months in October following an appeal.

He agreed a mutual termination of his contract with Juventus in November and has been free to recommence his career since March.

In the Court of Arbitration for Sport's final judgement on his case it was confirmed that Pogba did inadvertently take DHEA, a substance that boosts testosterone and is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned list.

Crucially, however, the ruling stated that DHEA only has an effect on performance for females.
