They had been Italian champions for the preceding nine seasons, with Pogba playing a key role in their title wins from 2012-13 to 2015-16.
He scored 34 goals from 178 games in his previous spell with Juventus having also joined on a free from United in 2012, after coming through the Old Trafford academy.
During his first season back at Old Trafford, Pogba helped United win the EFL Cup and Europa League but they would prove to be the only trophies he won in his second spell.
A disagreement with then manager Jose Mourinho saw him lose the vice-captaincy in 2018 and injuries and sporadic form reduced his impact.

Mathias Pogba, 32, has admitted he was behind a video that appeared online last month promising "revelations" about the 29-year-old Juventus midfielder.
French prosecutors opened a judicial investigation earlier this month after former Manchester United player Paul said he was the target of extortion and threats from an organised gang.
He filed a complaint with Turin prosecutors on 16 July claiming he was the target of a 13m euro (£11.29m) blackmail plot.
A World Cup winner with France in 2018, Pogba moved to Juventus on a free transfer this summer after leaving Manchester United.

It will be up to him - not the anti-doping authorities - to prove he did not intentionally break the rules and, contrary to several reports, Pogba did not tell anyone at Juventus that he had taken a banned substance, Sky Sports News understands.
As far as the anti-doping bodies NADO Italia and WADA are concerned, the onus is on the athlete to be clean, and they are 100 per cent responsible for what goes into their body.
But the degree of fault and/or negligence will need to be established to decide whether or not he is banned, and for how long, and there are other factors that could impact the severity of any punishment.
This process can take a significant amount of time and the resulting conclusions can also be appealed but - as it stands - Pogba is facing the very real possibility of a four-year ban from the game.
He could therefore miss next summer's European Championships and the 2026 World Cup in North and Central America. His Juventus contract, which expires in 2026, would be on the line.

"I didn't triple check, let's say it like that, even if it came from a professional. If I have to be punished, I am fine with it, but it should never be four years."

Paul Pogba's brother sentenced to three years in extortion case
The older brother of Paul Pogba, former Manchester United midfielder, has been sentenced to a three year jail term, two years suspended, after being convicted of attempting to extort the French footballer.
Mathias Pogba, who was also fined €20,000 (£16,500), will avoid time behind bars and instead serve one year wearing an electronic bracelet.
Five other men were found guilty of extortion and other crimes, and received sentences between four and eight years in a Paris court on Thursday.
Paul Pogba, 31, said he had been "tricked by childhood friends" who held him at gunpoint in 2022 and demanded €13m (£10.8m). He said he paid them €100,000 (£82,600).
Mathias Pogba's lawyer Mbeko Tabula told RMC Sport the sentencing was "extremely harsh" and said "I think we will appeal".
The other five defendants were handed the following sentences: Roushdane K received eight years, Boubacar C four years, two suspended, Adama C five years, Mamadou M five years, 12 months suspended, and Machikour K four years, three suspended.
Last year, Paul Pogba told Al Jazeera that he had considered retiring from football because of the extortion attempt.

The older brother of Paul Pogba, former Manchester United midfielder, has been sentenced to a three year jail term, two years suspended, after being convicted of attempting to extort the French footballer.
Mathias Pogba, who was also fined €20,000 (£16,500), will avoid time behind bars and instead serve one year wearing an electronic bracelet.
Five other men were found guilty of extortion and other crimes, and received sentences between four and eight years in a Paris court on Thursday.
Paul Pogba, 31, said he had been "tricked by childhood friends" who held him at gunpoint in 2022 and demanded €13m (£10.8m). He said he paid them €100,000 (£82,600).
Mathias Pogba's lawyer Mbeko Tabula told RMC Sport the sentencing was "extremely harsh" and said "I think we will appeal".
The other five defendants were handed the following sentences: Roushdane K received eight years, Boubacar C four years, two suspended, Adama C five years, Mamadou M five years, 12 months suspended, and Machikour K four years, three suspended.
Last year, Paul Pogba told Al Jazeera that he had considered retiring from football because of the extortion attempt.
"When there is money you have to be careful," he said. "Money changes people. It can break up a family. It can create a war".

Former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is in advanced talks with Monaco as he seeks a return to football after a doping suspension.
The French World Cup winner, 32, is moving towards a return to his homeland with the Ligue 1 side.
BBC Sport understands discussions have revolved around the midfielder signing a two-year contract with Monaco, who hope to close the deal in the coming days.
Talks have been ongoing for a number of weeks, with Pogba training before pre-season as he plots his return to action.
Pogba was provisionally suspended after being randomly tested following Juventus' opening game of the 2023-24 season against Udinese.
He later received a four-year ban which was slashed to 18 months in October following an appeal.
He agreed a mutual termination of his contract with Juventus in November and has been free to recommence his career since March.
In the Court of Arbitration for Sport's final judgement on his case it was confirmed that Pogba did inadvertently take DHEA, a substance that boosts testosterone and is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned list.
Crucially, however, the ruling stated that DHEA only has an effect on performance for females.
