Excellent work. PCB are killing it on the broadcasting front.

Very good.

All we need now is a deal with New Balance or Adidas now. Enough of these AJ sports or other rubbish kit manufacturers

This is superb from PCB, IMO Waseem khan is the best thing that happened to Pakistan cricket in this century, now Waseem Khan needs to lure some multinational companies as shirt sponsor for cricket team.

Saj brother do you have any information about the money involved in this deal

Completely agree, we have some traction right now with a lot of big deals, so we should try our luck with one of these sponsors.

Any company that's working with India will probably reject our offers, and also those companies that have a very strong base in India, because of fear of being boycotted.

However, that's their problem, we should look to find a suitable and esteemed sports kit manufacturer.

I think Adidas would really be a good agreement. New Balance is also pretty good.

1. I thought. Sky already had these rights. Do they now have to share it with Sony too?

2. How comfortable are the PCB in dealing with an Indian company knowing their track record of pulling the plug when the PSL was moved halfway through a season to Pakistan etc?

Sky hold the rights in UK, Sony will hold it in India.

Point 2 is a valid concern though, devil is in the detail.

Your point 2 is valid. I am also a bit wary of all of PCB's deals with no proof of any of the numbers quoted and in this deal no number at all. Even the $200 million for PTV seems to be pulled out of their rear end, me and you could do a better production on our phone cam than PTV. Even though I like Wasim Khan a lot so let's see.

Don’t think Adidas and New Balance would do that, especially when so many Pakistan’s tend to buy fake kits because it’s cheaper.

I think now that Pakistan will be on Sky and Supersport for the next 3 years, they will have MASSIVE opportunities for sponsorship

Need to make the most of it now. This is why New Ballance or Adidas should work because the market is far more global instead of Pakistan. Also they need to move from this EasyPaisa and TUC biscuit nonsense and look for something like Bank Al-Falah or something along these lines who have a business connection to Pakistan and the overseas.

Who uses EasyPaisa in England or the US? Bank Al-Falah has branches around the world though

I think it’s more about the exposure they will get due to the Sky and Supersport deals. The market is broadened anyways due to the global exposure which Pak cricket wasn’t giving because 70-80% of its fixtures were on PTV and Hum Masala in the UK

True, but Pakistan also needs to improve its performances as well.

Most big partners don't make deals with small teams because you get a lot of exposure when you win as compared with when a team loses.

Don't expect any major sponsor to come our way unless we put up some good performances.

You are right. Hence the relatively easier two year fixture schedule and the possibility of a reputable international coach are two very important components which the PCB cannot mess up.

I was thinking, why doesn't the PCB its luck with Emirates and Virgin Airlines for a proper central sponsor instead of Easy Paisa and Pepsi?

Virgin has just announced that they will be resuming flights to Pakistan. Whilst most overseas Pakistanis use Emirates or Qatar Airways in order to travel to Pakistan instead of PIA. They are in a win win situation these airlines are. Nothing to lose out!

I'm sorry what am I missing here?

Except for the recent series with Zimbabwe (YouTube), I remember watching pretty much every home series Pak played (UAE or Pak) on Sony. What's the big deal here? Genuine question.

Will love to watch some matches if I get time. I assume even if political unpredictability prompts Sony to act otherwise, I can still stream the match online .

These matches in Pakistan , with international cricket returning after so many years, should have full crowd and a proper atmosphere. Pakistan matches in Dubai has been a pain to watch with absence of a diverse crowd in the gallery.

God news. Indians love to watch Pakistan play. It's a good strategy to showcase our matches on Sony and acclimatize their audience to our new players to build traction for PSL ;-)

That was the previous deal which has expired. People are excited cause this deal will most probably involve Pak Home games + PSL also, which is huge. PSL has never got a major broadcaster in India.

That could be a good idea to pursue, but it's unlikely that a travel company of high stature will sign a deal with PCB until we reach a respectable level of performance and if we are certain that there will be exposure to that market which an airline company is seeking.

Why announce it when you haven't signed anything and haven't agreed on a price? There is no need to leak this stuff out before then

Ten Sports offered the PCB $150 million from 2015 to 2020 out of which $90 million was dependent on the PCB hosting India for two home series. Since those home series with India never materialized, the PCB in the end only got $60 million from 2015 to 2020.

Apparently because of Covid, Ten Sports offered the PCB $25 million for the next 5 years factoring in that there would be no series with India. Naturally the PCB told Ten Sports to take a hike and began to search for alternatives i.e. The PTV Sports deal, the Super Sports deal, the Sky Sports deal and apparently the Sony deal.

Sony must have offered a much more significant amount than Ten Sports for the PCB to agree to deal with them for the next 3 years. Will be interested to know how much that amount really is.

As far as I know, Ten Sports is owned by Sony.

Probably not as big a deal logistically if Sony pull out of the deal since they won't be providing any production staff. They'll just broadcast the feed produced by the PCB/PTV.

Some from Sony India would have leaked it to Cricbuzz.. where i saw this article late night my time 12 PM AEST.
I saw it 3 mins after its posting.

Sony TEN always shows pakistan matches, except psl, so its pcb sticking with a old partner. Good.

Afaik Super sports showed pakistan cricket in SA earlier too.

No one knows how much pcb will make on these deals. More than 150mn?

That's a good question, the PCB hasn't released the numbers. No way it can be $150 million because there are no matches with India and its also a Covid world

Why does PCB never release its numbers?

No one knows the value of their deals.

Almost all boards release their numbers.

Its like PCB doesn't want people to know if the number matched their claims.

Twitter is throwing some very Wierd numbers around this deal. I hope the NAB and the National Assembly Cricket Committee investigates how much these deals are worth because the PCB can't announce these deals to the world and then refuse to reveal how much they will earn from the deals citing confidentiality clauses

Very good update. I look forward to watching PSL on Sony.

And yes, to make the best of the deals (with SKY, Sony etc) and get sponsorships, Pakistan needs to put up good performances, starting with SA series.

Have they also acquired streaming rights within Pakistan? SonyLiv has increased their monthly subscription charges from 170 to 680PKR from next month.

There we go...

Sony six showing BBL...

Ten 1 and Ten 3 showing WWE

Ten 2 showing FA cup..

And when I said it'd be tough for Sony to manage their scheduling, some were getting their patloons in a twist. :inti

Looks like Sony got some calls from hierarchy😉

They are showing WWE on other channels. They have 4 channels.

Sony probably know WWE has a big captive audience and the same for BBL. This test match not as popular as the first two which means they bought the rights at throwaway prices.

I was trying to purchase viewing subscription but Hotstar won't even tell me which matches they will provide, or at least I could not find that information. They want me to purchase the subscription without telling me what I am buying!

I've seen the ad during ENG-SLN series, they said it will be broadcast on Sony Ten 2, I don't know what happened today morning.

Some tweets saying the match will be broadcast from Day 2 onwards because of scheduling conflict..

Oh this might be true, today was the scheduled last day of ENG-SLN match, its a different thing that it ended on 4th day itself.

In today's day and age when they have multiple channels and streaming platforms, this excuse seems funny

Yup, SonyLiv is not streaming it either, so something has wrong.

I see it listed on Sony Ten 2 schedule for tomorrow, it is NOT listed in today's schedule. Quite strange as they could have managed the scheduling conflict.

So I think it will be broadcast from Day 2 onwards.

It was listed yesterday also for Ten 2 hd but today they changed it

I've asked PCB.

As far as they were aware, coverage was supposed to start from today and they are making enquiries.

Saj Sir, Update us as soon as you get the answer from their side.
