PCB announces a landmark three-year men’s central contracts list

By the way why do these contracts need to be made public? My peer at work would defo be annoyed if they discover I get paid more than them.

This is inviting friction.

In every grey cloud there is a silver lining.

It seems as though that selectors have finally realised what needs to be done for us to get back on track

Sarfraz being moved up to a category B means one of two things: he is going to be a part of our limited overs teams or will be made captain of the test side. Whatever it is, it's a sign that justice is finally being served

Five players added to men’s central contracts list.

After a thorough review, PCB has decided to name five additional players in the men’s central contracts list bringing the total number of players offered contracts to 30. The three-year contracts deal announced last month, will run from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2026.

The previous 25-man list of players was finalised by the Najam Sethi-led management committee but the new management committee under its chairman Mr Zaka Ashraf has decided to review the list. The new inductions include Abrar Ahmed (Category C), Noman Ali (Category C), Tayyab Tahir (Category D), Aamir Jamal (Category D) and Arshad Iqbal (Category D).

Sarfaraz Ahmed, former captain, was previously named in Category “D” but has been elevated to Category B. He is presently Pakistan's first-choice wicket-keeper batter in the red-ball format. He made his comeback to the Test side in December last year and has amassed 367 runs across four matches at an average of 61.16. The 36-year-old was named player of the series for his three half-centuries and one century in four innings against New Zealand at home.

Abrar and Noman, placed in Category C, have been regular Pakistan’s Test team members over the past year. Mystery spinner Abrar has picked up 38 wickets in six matches since making his debut against England in Multan while left-arm spinner Noman has taken 17 wickets in four games over the last 12 months.

Aamir (4 T20Is), Arshad (3 T20Is) and Tayyab (3 T20Is) slotted in Category D continue to remain in the plans of the national men’s selection committee.

Below is the updated list of players with categories who have been offered contracts:

Category A: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi

Category B: Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shadab Khan

Category C: Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Imad Wasim and Noman Ali

Category D: Aamir Jamal, Arshad Iqbal, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Ihsanullah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shan Masood, Tayyab Tahir, Usama Mir and Zaman Khan

The contracts offered significantly increased monthly retainers, with a share of the ICC revenue incorporated into the overall monthly remuneration. The three-year tenure of the contacts will have its financial model locked for the three years but a list of players will be appraised after 12 months. The previous central contract cycle expired on 30 June and the new agreement was deemed effective from 1 July 2023.

Zaka Ashraf has been in charge of the PCB since July and it was under him that the previous central contracts were announced but still he is passing the buck on to Najam Sethi.

One can't help but cringe at the rather unflattering designations of Category C and D for players lol. The masterminds responsible for these "innovative" designations certainly deserve a standing ovation.

Just when you think that things can't get any worse... :facepalm

By the way, PCB announced the changes in the middle of the Pakistan v Australia match :)

I mean we aren't good enough in the first place but whatever fire remained seems to have been extinguished by being gifted these overly generous contracts.

You could see from this whole drama that the priorities weren’t right throughout.

Some of these players thought they were superstars having performed for a couple of seasons only. We need humble players who focus on getting better, not these bona fide idiots who think they own the world by beating Nepal.

PCB as the employer can still suspend the contracts. Heck the government of Pakistan can for that matter. I want Babar to grilled in the national assembly and senate. The guy has badly regressed as a batsman and he is now abusing his position as the perceived best batsman in the team, just look at his belly and the decline in his game against spinners for the last one year.

Can pcb jokers ripped apart these contracts they are sucking tax payers money and giving this type of performance start from sacking ever single coach on that tour

Oh dont u worry. When the tax payers can feed the army, then feeding these cricketers is like storm in a tea cup. At least the cricketers occasionally bring us some joy.

Imagine if someone from the ECB proclaimed holding back the salaries of the English players after their recent challenges.

What's the point of a contract if PCB won't keep it's word and pay the players. Or prepare a contract in such a manner wherein they'll only be paid if they win! It's betrayal.

Ever wonder why players are reluctant to retire, or one of the best fast bowlers in the world signs up for every T20 tournaments all round the year.

They have a 15 year period in their physical prime, wherein they have to make maximum money to sustain themselves and their families even post retirement.

Even funnier that they are happy to grant imad wasim c and not consider even for world cup reserves.

Players definitely can sue the board, call a strike.

A contract is a contract. If you don't respect the contract, why make it in the first place?

Sue in a country like Pakistan, and that too against powerful people? Don’t think that is a good idea
