PCB announces landmark three-year (2023-26) men's central contracts list

By the way why do these contracts need to be made public? My peer at work would defo be annoyed if they discover I get paid more than them.

This is inviting friction.

In every grey cloud there is a silver lining.

It seems as though that selectors have finally realised what needs to be done for us to get back on track

Sarfraz being moved up to a category B means one of two things: he is going to be a part of our limited overs teams or will be made captain of the test side. Whatever it is, it's a sign that justice is finally being served

Five players added to men’s central contracts list.

After a thorough review, PCB has decided to name five additional players in the men’s central contracts list bringing the total number of players offered contracts to 30. The three-year contracts deal announced last month, will run from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2026.

The previous 25-man list of players was finalised by the Najam Sethi-led management committee but the new management committee under its chairman Mr Zaka Ashraf has decided to review the list. The new inductions include Abrar Ahmed (Category C), Noman Ali (Category C), Tayyab Tahir (Category D), Aamir Jamal (Category D) and Arshad Iqbal (Category D).

Sarfaraz Ahmed, former captain, was previously named in Category “D” but has been elevated to Category B. He is presently Pakistan's first-choice wicket-keeper batter in the red-ball format. He made his comeback to the Test side in December last year and has amassed 367 runs across four matches at an average of 61.16. The 36-year-old was named player of the series for his three half-centuries and one century in four innings against New Zealand at home.

Abrar and Noman, placed in Category C, have been regular Pakistan’s Test team members over the past year. Mystery spinner Abrar has picked up 38 wickets in six matches since making his debut against England in Multan while left-arm spinner Noman has taken 17 wickets in four games over the last 12 months.

Aamir (4 T20Is), Arshad (3 T20Is) and Tayyab (3 T20Is) slotted in Category D continue to remain in the plans of the national men’s selection committee.

Below is the updated list of players with categories who have been offered contracts:

Category A: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi

Category B: Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shadab Khan

Category C: Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Imad Wasim and Noman Ali

Category D: Aamir Jamal, Arshad Iqbal, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Ihsanullah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shan Masood, Tayyab Tahir, Usama Mir and Zaman Khan

The contracts offered significantly increased monthly retainers, with a share of the ICC revenue incorporated into the overall monthly remuneration. The three-year tenure of the contacts will have its financial model locked for the three years but a list of players will be appraised after 12 months. The previous central contract cycle expired on 30 June and the new agreement was deemed effective from 1 July 2023.

Zaka Ashraf has been in charge of the PCB since July and it was under him that the previous central contracts were announced but still he is passing the buck on to Najam Sethi.

One can't help but cringe at the rather unflattering designations of Category C and D for players lol. The masterminds responsible for these "innovative" designations certainly deserve a standing ovation.

Just when you think that things can't get any worse... :facepalm

By the way, PCB announced the changes in the middle of the Pakistan v Australia match :)

I mean we aren't good enough in the first place but whatever fire remained seems to have been extinguished by being gifted these overly generous contracts.

You could see from this whole drama that the priorities weren’t right throughout.

Some of these players thought they were superstars having performed for a couple of seasons only. We need humble players who focus on getting better, not these bona fide idiots who think they own the world by beating Nepal.

PCB as the employer can still suspend the contracts. Heck the government of Pakistan can for that matter. I want Babar to grilled in the national assembly and senate. The guy has badly regressed as a batsman and he is now abusing his position as the perceived best batsman in the team, just look at his belly and the decline in his game against spinners for the last one year.

Grill Zaka Ashraf & Inzimam aswell

Lol calm down.its just a game no captain of cricket is getting grilled in the senate they have better things to do.

Can pcb jokers ripped apart these contracts they are sucking tax payers money and giving this type of performance start from sacking ever single coach on that tour

Oh dont u worry. When the tax payers can feed the army, then feeding these cricketers is like storm in a tea cup. At least the cricketers occasionally bring us some joy.

Imagine if someone from the ECB proclaimed holding back the salaries of the English players after their recent challenges.

What's the point of a contract if PCB won't keep it's word and pay the players. Or prepare a contract in such a manner wherein they'll only be paid if they win! It's betrayal.

Ever wonder why players are reluctant to retire, or one of the best fast bowlers in the world signs up for every T20 tournaments all round the year.

They have a 15 year period in their physical prime, wherein they have to make maximum money to sustain themselves and their families even post retirement.

Even funnier that they are happy to grant imad wasim c and not consider even for world cup reserves.

Players definitely can sue the board, call a strike.

A contract is a contract. If you don't respect the contract, why make it in the first place?

Sue in a country like Pakistan, and that too against powerful people? Don’t think that is a good idea

Does Haris need to be in Cat B?

Promotion in the PCB contract list for the newly appointed test captain Shan Massod. Became a captain few days ago and now got his promotion in the contract category as well. Good days for him.

Media REPORT:

The PCB has shared the updated monthly salary details for the national squad members, reflecting significant increases across all categories

Cricketers globally, including those from Pakistan, make significant earnings, especially those competing at the international level or in major leagues like the PSL, IPL, or Big Bash. At the height of their careers, they earn through match fees, central contracts, sponsorships, and endorsements.

In response to increasing questions about the Pakistan Cricket Team, the PCB has released the monthly salary details for the national squad members.

Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan are classified under Category A, each earning a monthly salary of Rs4.5 million.

Category B includes players such as Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah, who earn up to Rs3 million per month.

In categories C and D, monthly salaries range from Rs750,000 to Rs1.5 million. Imad Wasim is categorised under category C, while Iftikhar Ahmed, Hasan Ali, and Saim Ayub fall under category D.

Additionally, players receive fixed match fees and match awards for all three formats, which contribute to their overall earnings.

The new contracts issued by PCB have resulted in a substantial salary increase:

Category A: 200% increase
Category B: 144% increase
Category C: 135% increase
Category D: 127% increase

These updates come as the PCB responds to growing scrutiny of the Pakistan Cricket Team by making financial details transparet.

That's interesting. Because I was thinking he or shan were in contention of being made captain based of past rumors and reports.

If he's being degraded from CAT A does that mean the current committee and any associated representation agencies like saya are being demolished?

Not from what I am reading. Rizwan and Shaheen under the pump right now for apparently not cooperating with Babar

Babar’s senior mouthpieces on social media crying about this. Legit beef between the 3

I get shaheen vs Babar/ Rizwan.

Rizwan vs Babar is interesting lol. But it's good, That's what you get when you're just chamcha's and spoon feeders of each other rather then actual teammates who respect each other on the field.

Apparently Babar’s return as the Dark Lord skipper has rubbed off pretty bad on Rizwan too. Rizwan lost his influence or sway on Babar, and therefore the rift began

These 3 are not actually being rested for workload against Bangladesh but it’s legit to bring all 3 back down to earth apparently

Watch how the PR machine runs wild now on social media with Rizwan stats in all 3 formats

These 3 need to suck it up plain and simple. The whole team was selected in accordance to make babar, Shaheen and rizwan as well as shadab to look good. (Saim was an exception though)

This marketing propaganda of Babar being objectively the greatest pakistani bat of all time, Rizwan being the greatest wk bat for Pakistan all time and the greatest t20 player ever, Shaheen being the 3rd greatest Pakistani pacer to ever exist and shadab being the best match winning tournament allrounder got to their heads and sadly fooled alot of people who fell into this propaganda.

This I want my own positions must end. Its good that their dropped.

Imo I want Babar at 3 in odi and test only but not as captain and his own mouth needs to stay shut now, only his bat should be talking, otherwise keep him dropped.

Rizwan as a test keeper only, Test should be his only format.

Shaheen can be allformat but he needs to improve his form and improve his maturity (Granted he has improved his ego a bit).

Which could had been released after or before the tournament..my post is when PCT was in the tournament

A report leaked by someone in PCB.

PCB has a horrible culture of leaks.

LAHORE: The Pakistani team’s players may refuse central contracts if they are demoted following their poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 which led to their early exit, sources revealed.

There are concerns that the refusal of contracts could lead to players opting to play freely without the restrictions.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is waiting for head coach Gary Kirsten’s report as it will make decisions in light of it. Moreover, senior manager Wahab Riaz will also present a report which will be reviewed before final decisions.

This comprehensive review process has delayed the board’s announcement of any definitive actions.

One of the major considerations is the potential decision to drop certain players from the next series and make modifications to the central contracts.

Earlier, it was reported that Pakistan’s white-ball skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan are expected to be demoted from Category A in their central contracts.

Sources close to the situation disclosed that work on a new central contract for the national players is in progress.

A new and smaller selection committee will be established to finalise the central contracts. However, the salaries of the national cricketers will remain unchanged.

The PCB decided to review the central contracts after the team’s embarrassing early exit from the ongoing World Cup due to its poor performance.

The Green Shirts have been eliminated from the mega event and failed to even proceed to the Super Eight stage after losing their two initial matches against the new entrant United States and arch-rivals India.

With the match between the US and Ireland abandoned due to rain on Friday, the co-hosts secured one point, consequently ending Pakistan’s hopes of proceeding in the tournament.

The national team returned to Pakistan after playing its last league game against Ireland.

This is the third time in the tournament’s history that Pakistan has been eliminated in the league round.

How shameless are these guys. First they lose vs a minnow team and also throw away the game vs India. Let them refuse the central contract and drop them for good!

I really don’t mind if Rizwan refuses a central contract

Just get lost from our cricket!

The PCB can still refuse their Nocs even if they are not centrally contracted.

While talking on a local sports show, Ramiz said withholding salaries or demoting players will not get the team anywhere in terms of success and standard, he said:

“This is beyond me. Cricketers should be paid, simple as that. They have a limited career and PCB has a lot to give to the cricketers,”

“If you decrease or withhold the salary of a workforce then it will result in the workforce leaving the job. This is an incredibly delicate matter that as a punishment you are decreasing or holding back the salary of someone,”

“As I have said before, this is a knee-jerk reaction and you can not improve the standard by increasing or decreasing the pay of the cricketers.”

Not a chance.

Mohammad Rizwan is the greatest wicketkeeper in the history of Pakistan cricket.

He is the greatest t20 opener the country has ever produced.

He tops every list of rankings imaginable.

He is a world renowned role model for Pakistan cricket.

Mohammad Rizwan doesn’t need category A. Category A needs him.

The tears keep flowing and Rizwan keeps succeeding. It is delicious to see.

Cringe and gets worse by the tournament this post

“If you decrease or withhold the salary of a workforce then it will result in the workforce leaving the job
So the guy (Rizwan in particular) should be on a cat A contract even though he has ZERO intention to bat in accordance to modern white ball standards?

To look for singles in the powerplay and death overs?

I am sure they are going to lose their central contract category in operation cleanup.

But why is Ramiz always defending Babar and Rizwan only knowing these two are not up to the mark?
Because they were both his "yes sir" type students that's why he liked them the most.

If you remember all such "dosti yari" culture prevailed during Ramiz's tenure.

Pakistan board to downsize list of centrally contracted cricketers

The PCB in all likelihood will prune the list of centrally contracted from 27 last year as per directive from two foreign coaches, Gary Kirsten (white ball) and Jason Gillespie (red ball), with skipper Shan Masood being party to the decision. It is believed that PCB will announce the list for the 2024/25 season before the national squad leaves for its tour of Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa on October 29.

"There is a lot of work going on finalising the list of players who will get these lucrative contracts but the announcement will be made before the team leaves so that they are not distracted during the test series against England," an official source in the board said on Saturday. "You can expect demotions of players, promotions of a few and the addition and exclusion of some players in the new list," the source said.

He said despite the demotions, promotions etc the number of players will be reduced in numbers. "The recent fitness tests and performances of players have been taken into consideration while discussing which players should get the contracts," he said.

"Kirsten and Gillispie have laid a lot of stress on fitness and rewarded those players who are independently focussed on becoming top fit professionals."

Former captain Babar Azam, the new expected white-ball captain, Muhammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi will remain in the top A plus category but there are expected to be some demotions and promotions in the other categories with some unlucky to be dropped from the list.

Muhammad Nawaz, Imad Wasim, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Ihsanullah, Shahnawaz Dahani, Hasan Ali, etc could end up losing their contracts. Last year also the PCB announced the centrally contracted list of players after a long delay just before the team left for India to play in the World Cup.

The contract period runs from July to July but last year the delay occurred because of prolonged negotiations between the players and board leading to the PCB agreeing to give the players a 3 per cent stake in the shares it gets from the ICC and a major hike in players' match fee: including 50% increment in Tests, 25% in ODIs and 12.5% in T20 internationals.

Unfortunately, the source said since the performance of the team had been going down since last year the board wanted to ensure a performance related system when giving contracts which is why numbers will be reduced.

There is an unease among some players over the delay in the announcement of the contracts and also the delay in the board disbursing their monthly retainers, sponsorship fees and shares from ICC revenues for three months.

Amazing surgery
The only surgery that is required is brain surgery for those who have a problem with Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen in CAT A.

If you’re not having them in CAT A, then don’t bother having a CAT A in the first place, because no other group of players deserve it more.

I would advise brain surgery for those who think men who bat like women in T20s should be in Cat A

That would be Imad Wasim and thankfully he is not in any CAT. There is no CC for big mouthed losers who talk a good game but can’t walk it.

Imad didn’t even bat like woman vs India. He batted like a they/them.
