Thought things were changing for the better under Mani, another TTF joining the PCB. Absolutely brilliant, hence the reason why i keep getting put off by Pakistan Cricket.

Couldn't they have found someone older and more out of touch with cricket.

It's very sad state of affairs. A 70 year old leading at new academy. These are Imran khan's decisions.

PCB appoints Bari as head of High Performance Centre

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday appointed former cricketer Wasim Bari as Head of High Performance Centre (HPC) in Karachi.

The cricket governing body, under the patronage of newly-appointed chief Ehsan Mani, has made a number of changes, including the appointment of Leicestershire CEO Waseem Khan as its first-ever Managing Director (MD), former cricketer Mohsin Hasan Khan as head of a newly-formed cricket committee and Sami-ul-Hasan, as director media after the seat went vacant as his predecessor Amjad Hussain Bhatti returned to his parent department, Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) as its head.

Wasim Bari replaced the former HPC chief Iqbal Qasim who is also a former cricketer and assumed the responsibility in February, right after the inauguration of the HPC.

HPC was constructed earlier this year in Karachi National Stadium to help batsmen improve their technique and coup with fast tracks in foreign tours. A total of 23 pitches, including a cemented pitch, and a first-ever marble turf were constructed in the facility.

Mani continues to prove his worth. However, this is what we deserve.

High performance centre is a great initiative and one which was must needed. We need high performance centres in all big cities but it's imp that they are " Real High performance Centres " and not NCA esque old fashioned academies.

Things needed :

1. High Performance Manager

2. Highly qualified batting, fielding & bowling Coaches

3. Qualified trainers & nutritionists

4. Biomechanics Expert

5. Human Movements Experts

6. Latest Bio-Mechanics Equipment

7. Latest throwing/bowling Machines including the one AB used to get himself prepared to face Johnson ;-)

Irrelevant post. You could put one of the greatest coach in that post and Pakistan's cricket won't improve. High Performance Centres don't bring out the talent. They just fine tune them.

Pakistan's problem over the last 10 years has been the lack of talent coming up. When you have absolute duds coming up whose skill levels are nowhere near top quality, high performance centres won't give you results too.

The school cricket is now non-existent and club cricket level has further deteriorated. You need to overhaul those structures and once you do that, then you need a high performance center to fine tune players. At the moment you are expecting coal to be turned into gold through this HPC. Not gonna happen so it really doesn't matter who you put in charge. The fault lies elsewhere.

Another good appointment after Ehsan Mani himself. Wasim Bari played all his cricket free of controversy and as far as I know he never joined any group to undermine captains. A supreme cricketer let's hope he can do an equally good and noble job here.

This!

I'd also add this too...

Pakistan's lack of institutes is what is the biggest problem for decades.

Just having an NCA in Lahore they've thought that is all that is needed in the country and everyone will be coming out from there.

Pakistan's cricket culture has been dying for a good few years now too where even T20 matches the recent one that was in Pakistan even had a number of empty stands so people's interest in the sport is at a very low point.

Pakistan needs to invest in specialist training centres across the country and build institutes where players from all backgrounds and all ages come and learn everything there is about cricket and that includes even fitness and diet and what they're weakness and strengths are.

I don't think this is something that will ever happen but surely they do have the money to do something in that regard even if it isn't at that giant scale.

The single best way to improve the quality of cricketers is to have more playing opportunities on good wickets. These high performance centres are a waste of money and time. The PCB should identify grounds in big cities and work with the govt to buy them.

Cricket has evolved beyond former cricketers. In fact many former cricketers have been given many major posts only to have failed miserably.

Rameez Raja
Basit Ali
Intikhab Alam
Javed Miandad
Waqar Younis
Wasim Akram
Aquib Javed
Mushtaq Ahmed
Inzamam ul Haq
Moin Khan
Rashid Latif
Zakir Khan
Haroon Rashid

The list goes on and on

Mani is so useless. Even at his peak in 60s and early 70s Bari did not know anything but keeping. The worst possible candidate for the job.

We've implemented such useless clinics many times. What would an average player like Bari know anything about spotting potential world class talent.

Why not think out of the box and appoint someone from overseas who will bring new ideas to the role.

What a shame, this is Imran Khan's chosen chairman.

Wasim Bari is the most notable yes-man after Subhan Ahmed who has served under many ad hoc PCB chairmen and contributed big zero. He was the rubber stamp selector in early 2000s during Inzamam captaincy, when Kamran Akmal was dropping catches matches after matches and was selected again by Bari [himself a wicketkeeper]

The joke is on Pakistanis that a 75+ guy is heading a high performance centre.

Ehsan Mani showing his quality.

Should have appointed Mike Hesson in the high performance academy with full authority and assurance for his job and life security. He wold have been a better choice than Waseem Bari by a country mile. But i guess cricket academies don't matter anymore according to some posters. Weird rationalisation of some pathetic administrative decisions.

I'm all about critiquing a sitting government, but what the heck does this decision have to do with the sitting PM? People seriously need to think about what they're saying before they say it.

PM is the patron in chief so every decision made by the current PCB administration reflects on PM's priorities and vision (or lack there of).

Am I mistaken. Was it not Waqar Younis as coach when Pakistan went to no1 test rankings

That may be true but at no point was Pakistan a dominant test side winning at home and around the world. More than that Waqar didn't develop players or improve the style of cricket. Along with Misbah, Waqar authored a style of Cricket in all formats that revolves around survival. That's a recipe for defensive cricket which is not sustainable over any length of time.

Yeah it would be a good idea if they can get through to our illiterate players.

I think, PCB has appointed Bari to keep some lousy mouth in check. He was always going to suck some money out of PCB (or would have made hue & cry) - it's good if he keeps a nice posh office for an ornamental role and allow technical people to do their job. I hope he won't indulge much into "action" at this age rather will focus on house keeping, which I am sure he can do, if he wishes.

Mani's recent appointments are good actually - this one I believe is done tactfully as I don't think Mani had any option to appoint a qualified foreigner or some young pro ....... I do believe Bari was the best choice among his probable lists - Javed, Mohsin, Latif, Basit ..... not much issues here.

But, I hope they appoint couple of Level 3 Pro certified batting coaches for U13 & U16 boys (better if from ENG or SAF, if not at least local prominent batsmen like Salim Malik, YK, MoYo, Amir Sohail or Taufique Umar ... later whom can be sent to ECB/CA academies for short courses). Karachi is PAK's batting power house - if Karachi fails to produce proper batting talents, PAK's batting issues will go to desperate situation.
