PCB-BCB reach agreement: Bangladesh to play two Tests, one ODI and three T20Is in Pakistan

The line I find most interesting here is that the cricketing fraternity are upset because they think BD capitulated to a tour rather than ‘prioritizing their own interests’... I mean, has anyone thought to ask, what are your interests? Because in cricketing terms, for a team that plays few test matches, a full tour is ‘in their interest’! So unless your interests are either vengeance or appeasement of India, or a kind of... apeing of Indian attitude to PK, I don’t understand what it would mean to prioritize your own interests by cancelling an international cricket tour.

excellent question and well put.

Why such negativity? Let us rejoice in the fact that the series is proceeding to the satisfaction of all concerned. The next step is for India to develop a mature and stable relationship with Pakistan, come to the table for resolution of conflict and develop regional ties including sporting contacts. This is what is needed to bring peace and tranquility to the region!

Commonsense prevailed.

Also I believe, BCB wanted to make a point and they made it - everyone happy now.

More costly for us to host them in 3 parts. BCB trying to prove a point and thinking it can dictate terms. We should have given them 1T20 and 1 Test and bye bye.

Leave it to Mamoon, the resident wrist slitter,
to find a negative in every situation. Give it a rest man and be happy.

Anyways, this is excellent news for Pakistan cricket. Another team here for a semi-full tour is great for the image of Pakistan.

You can call me whatever you want, but this is ridiculous.

Not only is the two match Test series sliced in half, we are going to play an ODI match in-between the two Tests spread over three months.

So not only is this probably the longest Test series in history, it is also probably the only Test series where you are going to play an ODI match in between the Tests.

Agreeing to this circus is not what I would call good negotiation skills. It is basically accepting whatever bone the other boards are offering us.

PCB is in a desperate position with very little to no leverage, but there few things that should not compromised on. This drama of breaking up a series in two halves spread over two months is not acceptable.

It is acceptable to play the limited overs or Test leg at some other time, but an individual series should not be sliced in half in this fashion.

Just seen the schedule from another thread. What a bizarre itinerary with the PSL slap bang in the middle before the tour concludes. Well at least its a start as the PCB don't have much room for manoeuvre.

The door is ever so slightly becoming ajar as far as international cricket in Pakistan is concerned.

LAHORE: As Bangladesh is all set to arrive in Lahore to play a T-20 series, the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) is struggling to fix its payment issues with a Chinese company that had shut down 4,000 surveillance cameras owning to non-payment of Rs226 million.

The PCSA has been ordered by the higher-ups, including Punjab Inspector General Shoaib Dastgir, to settle the matter with Huawei before the start of the cricket series.

The cameras had gone offline after the authority failed to make payments to the telecom company, leaving important areas of the city, like Mall Road, Lahore High Court, Data Darbar, vulnerable to any untoward incident. The amount, though approved by the standing committee, has not been released yet. The officials are, meanwhile, trying to approach the finance ministry for the release of the payment.

According to an official privy to details, the closure of cameras has rendered the authority incapacitated in terms of revenue collection i.e. traffic challans and etc. “People are openly violating the traffic laws and the crime rate has also been increased in the city owing to the non-functional cameras,” he added.

Madugalle named ICC match referee for Bangladesh T20Is

Lahore, 21 January 2020:

Ranjan Madugalle, one of the most respected and senior most member of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, has been appointed by the game’s governing body as match referee for the three T20Is between Pakistan and Bangladesh to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium on 24, 25 and 27 January.

The umpiring responsibilities will be shared between the local umpires. The Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed Ahsan Raza and Shozab Raza as the on-field umpires, Ahmed Shahab as third umpire and Tariq Rasheed as fourth umpire for the three matches.

Madugalle is the latest elite panel match referee to be appointed in Pakistan after David Boon (for West Indies T20Is, Sri Lanka ODIs and T20Is), Jeff Crowe (for 1st Sri Lanka Test), Andy Pycroft (for 2nd Sri Lanka Test) and Richie Richardson (for World XI).

Madugalle, 60, has refereed in 102 Twenty20 Internationals and will return to the country where he had made his international refereeing debut 27 years ago. In December 1993, he had refereed in the Pakistan versus Zimbabwe Test, before making his ODI debut in the same month between the same sides.

However, this will be the first time Madugalle will referee in a T20I series in Pakistan. Previously in Pakistan, he has refereed in 15 Tests in five series and 20 ODIs, including six in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 1996.

Madugalle’s last assignment in Pakistan was for the three-Test series against India in January 2006.

Prior to becoming an elite match referee, Madugalle had featured in 21 Tests for Sri Lanka, including three each in Pakistan in the 1982 and 1985 series. Off his 63 ODIs, eight were in Pakistan with the final appearance being against the home side in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 1987 in Faisalabad. He also captained his side in two Tests and 13 ODIs.

The ICC will confirm umpire and match referee appointments for the 7-11 February Test in Rawalpindi in due course.

Umpire and match referee appointments for T20Is:

24 January – 1st T20I, Lahore (2pm-515pm. Ahsan Raza and Shozab Raza (on-field), Ahmed Shahab (third umpire), Tariq Rasheed (fourth umpire). Ranjan Madugalle (match referee)

Shadman has been carrying a wrist injury picked up while playing for the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in July-August, while Imrul is yet to recover from a hamstring injury picked up during the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20 that ended in January

Openers Shadman Islam and Imrul Kayes are likely to miss the first Test against Pakistan next month due to injury.

Shadman has been carrying a wrist injury picked up while playing for the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in July-August, while Imrul is yet to recover from a hamstring injury picked up during the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20 that ended in January.

Left-hander Shadman played in the two Test matches against India last November, but the pain in his wrist recently resurfaced and he was given an injection on Monday. Doctors have advised him to take one week of rest.

“We have asked Shadman not to play in the Bangladesh Cricket League, as he has been suffering from a wrist injury for quite some time now. This is an old injury. When he tries to bat, his pain accentuates. We advised an injection for him and to give him one week rest. Due to this, we also informed the team management not to consider him for the first round match of the BCL,” BCB Chief Physician Debashish Chowdhury told reporters Tuesday.

“He took the injection on Monday and we will assess his condition again after two or three days. We can decide whether he will be available for the Pakistan Test after observing the situation,” he added.

“This kind of injury is manageable for shorter matches, but it gets tough when someone plays in the longer format,” the physician further said.

Shadman scored 29, 0, 6 and 6 in his last four innings for Bangladesh, during the away Test series against India.

Imrul, also a left-hander, has been retained by BCL side Islami Bank East Zone despite his hamstring injury. He has a chance to play in the second and third round of the first-class tournament, which begins on January 31.

“Imrul has recovered well from the hamstring injury, but we still suggested that he not feature in the BCL first-round matches as there is a chance of him getting injured again,” Debashish said.

Bangladesh will play the first match of the two-Test series from February 7-11 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

While Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is yet to confirm whether Mominul Haque will captain the side for the upcoming Test in Pakistan, it could be ascertained from the left-hander’s words today that the matter is likely a formality.

Mominul had taken over the responsibility of captaining the Test side during Bangladesh’s tour of India last year after Shakib Al Hasan was banned by the ICC. With the absence of longer format cricket for a while, the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), set to start from tomorrow, is a good opportunity for the him to look at his troops before heading to Pakistan. “I would be able to get a good look on how everyone is playing, maintaining themselves and also their attitude as the captain. I think this is a good opportunity.

Bangladesh had lost both Tests in India inside three days in what was Mominul’s first stint as captain of the side. His own performances have not flourished in recent times as well. He himself scored two ducks in the pink ball Test against India in Kolkata.

The East Zone captain saw a good opportunity to hone their abilities in the four-day matches of the BCL. “Everyone needed a good opportunity ahead of the Tests and I think the BCL provides good preparation. Before playing an international tournament, a domestic tournament always helps,” he said.

Member of the Test side had worked with Neil Mckenzie to work on their longer format skills. For Mominul, match practice was more important.

“I think match practice is more important. I think it works hundred percent more when you play a match, compared to a practice session,” Mominul said.

Islami Bank East Zone skipper Mominul Haque and Walton Central Zone skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto unveiled the trophy of the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), a franchise-based four-day tournament, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

The 8th edition of the BCL will run in three phases from January 31 to February 24.

Four teams are participating in the tournament. Two franchise teams, Walton Central Zone and Islami Bank East Zone, will be playing in the league, while the other two teams, BCB North and BCB South, are being kept by the BCB under its own belt. Earlier, Prime Bank had pulled out of the South Zone.

Ahead of the main event kicking off on January 31, the players’ draft was held at the media block of SBNCS on January 27. Seventy-nine players, including national team players, were drafted into four teams.

National team players Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah Riyad, and Mushfiqur Rahim are likely to feature in the first and third rounds. But Mushfiqur Rahim is set to miss the first round due to fever and a hamstring injury.

In the first-round match, South Zone will take on BCB North at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, while East Zone will lock horns with Central Zone at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The second- and third-round matches will be held on February 7–11 and 14–17, respectively, in Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet, while the top two teams will meet in the final, scheduled to be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on February 21–24.

After the trophy-unveiling ceremony at the main ground of the SBNCS, Islami Bank East Zone captain Mominul Haque and Walton Central Zone skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto said they were happy with their squads and looked forward to playing good red ball cricket. “I think we’ve got a very good side and our team combination is pretty good. The national team players will leave in the middle. But apart from them, other players are experienced and quite capable of playing good cricket. So, I guess we won’t have too much of a problem. We’re going to move with a positive mindset,” Shanto told reporters yesterday.

“Our expectation is obviously high. We have to play our natural cricket. I captained the same team since last year. I know most of the players and have a good understanding with the coach. So, I’m enjoying it,” he said.

Shanto also said he loved to take the captain’s responsibility as it made him more active on the field. “The BCL has always been a competitive tournament because the teams are balanced. It has always been challenging and at the same time it boosts a bowler's or batsman’s confidence when he takes wickets or scores for his team. So, it’s a nice tournament for our players to play good red-ball cricket,” he added.

East Zone captain Mominul Haque feels the upcoming BCL first round will be a good preparatory stage for national team players ahead of the Pakistan Test. “I think that the BCL will help us a lot in the upcoming Pakistan series. If you play a tournament before any international cricket, it always creates a huge impact,” Mominul said.

“I have a few national team Test players in my team. As a captain, I can have a close look and establish good communication with the players. That will help me a lot in the upcoming Pakistan Test,” he added.

Talking about his BCL team, Mominul said, “I think we have got a strong side on both departments. I have got three to four bowlers Test bowlers and batsmen. Overall, it’s a balanced squad.”

Any news when pakistan will name sqaud-side for 1st test vs Bangladesh?

Mominul Haque was entrusted with the responsibility after the ban of regular captain Shakib al Hasan and the former skippered the Tigers in the two Tests against India at their backyard.

Bangladesh cricket team will be led by left-handed batsman Mominul Haque in the two-match Test series away to Pakistan, and the solitary Test against Zimbabwe at home, confirmed national selector Minhajul Abedin to the media Friday.

Mominul was entrusted with the responsibility after the ban of regular captain Shakib al Hasan and the former skippered the Tigers in the two Tests against India at their backyard.

Minhajul said, “Like the last two Tests, Mominul will continue to lead the side in the next three Tests. We are depending on him.”

The Tigers will leave here for Pakistan Tuesday for the second phase of their tour where the two teams will take on each other in the first Test in Rawalpindi, slated to begin Friday.

Bangladesh will then return home and take on the African nation in the lone Test at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, scheduled to be held from February 22-26.

The Tigers will then travel to Pakistan for the second and final Test, starting on April 5 in Karachi.

Ahead of the first Pakistan Test, Minhajul said they would announce the 14-man squad Sunday.

And Minhajul said they would form the squad keeping the bouncy Rawalpindi wickets in mind.

“Conditions there are tough. And Pakistan have quite a few good pacers. We will be up against a difficult challenge,” said Minhajul.

Bangladesh ODI rescheduled

• Win in Karachi Test will help Pakistan jump to third on ICC World Test Championship points table

Lahore, 4 March 2020:

The Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed it has accepted the request of the Bangladesh Cricket Board to reschedule the one-off One-Day International to allow its men’s national team more time to prepare for the second ICC World Test Championship Test, which commences at the National Stadium from 5 April.

The ODI was originally planned for 3 April in Karachi, but will now be held on 1 April at the same venue with the Bangladesh team now scheduled to arrive on 29 March in Karachi.

Pakistan are ranked sixth on the ICC ODI team rankings, 12 points ahead of seventh-ranked Bangladesh.

PCB Director – International Cricket, Zakir Khan, said: “The PCB is always happy to facilitate wherever it can and will be delighted to host the Bangladesh men’s national team for additional days in Karachi. There is already a lot of excitement and buzz about the upcoming international matches and the PCB expects the quality of cricket will live up to the expectations of the fans and followers.”

Pakistan won the first Test in Rawalpindi by an innings and 44 runs. Pakistan is presently sitting fifth on the points table with 140 points from five Tests. A win in Karachi will help Pakistan leapfrog New Zealand (180 points in seven Tests) and England (146 points in nine Tests) into third place.

India leads the championship table with 360 points, followed by Australia (296 points). The top two sides in the nine-team competition will qualify for the final to be held in England next year.

ICC World Test Championship points table are available here.

Updated schedule (arrival and practice details to be confirmed closer to time):

29 March – Bangladesh team’s arrival in Karachi
30-31 March – Practice
1 April – Only One-Day International, National Stadium
2-4 April – Practice
5-9 April – 2nd ICC World Test Championship Test, National Stadium

First BD wanted to shorten their trip to Pakistan and now they want to spend more days in Karachi, good to see things are improving, a very welcome development.

and the crying and wrist slitting to start in the slave-gutter... the metal mad will now be coming with a stupid reason how this is so bad for pak... poor patient

its good to see Bang getting sensible ... more time and more practice always helps

Pak shld ask Bang to play a 3 day game or atleast a 2 day game with Pak Shaeen's

will be good to inject likes of Haider Ali, Akif Javid, Umar Khan, Ammad Butt, Iffti Chacha, Saif Badar Rohail Nazr etc to play an international side

Exactly!!!! Some people will still justify fake security concern.

Good on them. They realized that security is good and there are comfortable hotels, facilities, etc. Make use of them stay a few days extra to get acclimatized and hopefully provide a good competitive match.

Actually this split tour concept might not be a bad idea for other nations yet to visit Pakistan. The T-20 series and 1 test gave the BD board and more importantly players/coaches the confidence that it will be fine and for the second half are not more focused on their game.

Great news this means we can play our best performers of QEA Trophy from last season & they can have a go at a test nation. It will also give Bangladesh sometime to get adjusted to the conditions so we will have more even contest.

Going into the series-concluder, Bangladesh will look to maintain that but will not get carried away with complacency, said young spinner Mahedi

Off-spinner Mahedi Hasan believes Bangladesh will not be overconfident when they take on Zimbabwe in the second and final T20I of the series at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Wednesday.

Host Bangladesh are on cloud nine as they are unbeaten in the bilateral series against Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh started with a dominating win in the one-off Test match last month and maintained the supremacy, sweeping the ODI series 3-0.

Monday, they continued with the momentum in the first T20I in Mirpur, winning the game by 48 runs.

Batting has been Bangladesh’s strongest forte in all the formats, making it easy to register wins against lower-ranked Zimbabwe.

Going into the series-concluder, Bangladesh will look to maintain that but will not get carried away with complacency, said young spinner Mahedi.

“We are not showing overconfidence. One positive thing is that the batsmen who are playing are getting runs. Many are not getting chances in the lower-order. From the ODIs, you can see from one to five, all are getting chances to bat,” said Mahedi to the media at the team hotel in the capital Tuesday as the team took a day off.

In Tests, Bangladesh had one double century, one hundred and two fifties.

In the three ODIs, Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das rewrote some batting records.

In the first T20I, Bangladesh posted their third highest total in the format, 200 runs for the loss of three wickets, boosted with blistering half-centuries from Liton and Soumya Sarkar.

“Batsmen in the lower-order are not even getting a chance. They are also willing to get some runs. Overall, we are not overlooking them. It doesn’t matter if it is Zimbabwe or any other team, in T20 cricket momentum can change any time. In that case we should play with more caution, and be focused in the last match, Inshallah we will do it,” said the 25-year old Mahedi.

Mahedi revealed that the atmosphere in the dressing room was the key behind Bangladesh coming with a positive mindset against the opponents.

Mahedi returned to the national dressing room after almost two years and found the seniors discussing how to take on the opponents, and T20I captain Mahmudullah spreading positive vibe inside the team.

“I have been listening to this from the seniors in the dressing room since the beginning of the T20I series. That we will play like dominant force, whatever happens. Riyad (Mahmudullah) bhai was spreading positive vibe in the dressing room. If we play with strong mindset in the upcoming events like this, we will be successful Inshallah,” said Mahedi.

In their next assignment, Bangladesh will complete the last part of the three-phase tour of Pakistan, playing one ODI and the second and final Test of the series against the host nation.

In their first two parts of the tour, Bangladesh were found wanting in Pakistan, in the three-match T20I series and the first Test.

Though Bangladesh will tour Pakistan in April, provided concerns over the coronavirus decrease, Mahedi believes momentum from the matches against Zimbabwe would help Bangladesh to be motivated.

Bangladesh will play the lone ODI on April 1, followed by the Test starting on April 5.

Both the matches will be played in Karachi.

“Basically it depends on how you play [against Pakistan]. Almost everything is going good for us here and we are also trying to do well. Earlier, when big teams came here to Bangladesh, we whitewashed them. In that case, confidence is important. Since our confidence has risen up in this series, I think we will do well in our next series,” said Mahedi.
