LAHORE - Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to host some of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in Peshawar. He said this during the Waqt TV programme “Game Beat”, adding a huge number of Zalmi fans belong to Peshawar and they want to witness their heroes in action at their home grounds. “PCB chairman Najam Sethi must ponder over it while regarding up-gradation of Peshawar Stadium, I will talk to KP government. Cricket-crazy Pakistani nation want to see PSL matches to be played in the entire country,” he added.

Terrorist incident in progress in Peshawar as we speak - why are people making such unrealistic demands?

I also do not agree but

Shooting also occurs very frequently in USA
Does that mean that US is unsafe for sports?

Yes it means USA is unsafe for sports. But Pakistan doesnt enjoy the status of USA in the international arena.

Javed Afridi has lost his marbles. We are in no position to host cricket considering the state of affairs in our city. We can forget hosting games for decades. I don't envision any team showing willingness to play here.

I think he will be the first one to admit that he made a mistake in saying above!

International cricket in a place with high proximity to Afghanistan would not be practicable, sad reality for a place that has produced some great sportsmen for the country

Maybe in 5 years time when Bajwa retires and the operation is concluded with v high security Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe might play

Terrorism is down by 80% but till the remaining 20% does not go we cannot afford any match in KPK and Balochistan

Play Cricket everywhere in Pakistan, just provide 100% full proof security and give the foreign players a secure recreational environment.

Instead of going from 0 to 100 at once they should take it one step at a time. For example holding a couple of national T20 matches in Peshawar to start with.

Today there was a big terrorist attack in Peshawar - the statement is ill-timed

I'd like to see all of the PSL matches played in Pakistan but Peshawar seems like a high-risk option at the moment.

Best way to show solidarity with Pakistan is for the International players to show a big middle finger to the terrorists and play cricket all over Pakistan with a 100% full fledged security and with a fully secure party environment for foreign players.

That ideal state of security in Pakistan that the westerners want will never be achieved. One blast and another 50 years gone to waste. Players must man up and show solidarity with Pakistan just like they would with India if a blast took place there thanks to the IPL $$$$$

At the moment Punjab is the most safest area in Pakistan, no way should we play in KPK due to the recent attacks there.

This is the best thing I have read all week!

Nope Karachi is. After MQM was disbanded, suddenly it has become like a heaven Alhamdulillah. May peace prevail in our country as well as in the countries of those we consider state enemies.

We cannot expect anyone to just risk their lives for money, even if there is little to no risk at all, but the player believes otherwise. For most, all grand missions and philanthropy are reserved for charity shows after retirement, where the beneficiary is a slightly disadvantaged section of an affluent society. Pakistan is neither rich nor do people outside the country believe it to be safe. Under these circumstances, whatever the residents believe, or whatever grand purpose they want to portray, others have absolutely no interest in them.

Perhaps not Peshawar but how about multan? Could have a few home matches for the sultans.

Why shouldn't Peshawar have some PSL matches? I am sure Lahore had more such incidents in the past 1-2 years.

Karachi and Peshawar both have lower terrorism incident than Lahores but Seth's attachment to Punjab Govt is too mucj and I have a strong feeling that if IK wims the next elections,he will remove Sethi and try his best to hold the whole PSL in Pakistan in 2019 including matches in Peshawar since that is his fortress. :shadab

its about perception.

When you are making a pitch for more games, the sounds of ambulances taking people to hospital in the background does not make for a good backdrop

Forget about Peshawar, Lahore and Karachi will be hard, Religious groups are too strong, and pretty much everywhere, with recent success, extremist will get stronger, election year will bring another violent factor, Pakistan is once again Pakistan going in wrong direction. PCB, Sethey has to revise their plans for PSL3...I don't see Cricket coming back for a very long long time :(

I don’t see cricket coming to Peshawar or Quetta for at least 10-15 years.

However I’d like to see matches in Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi

That ideal state of security in Pakistan can never be achieved. The Security forces must provide 100% fool proof security to the players at all times when in the ground and outside the ground.

The harsh reality is that very few foreign players will play any PSL matches in Peshawar.
