Pakistan

Ramiz Raja
Bazid Khan
Waqar Younis
Urooj Mumtaz (as chief selector shouldn't she be focussing on T20 WC)

Australia

Michael Slater
Dirk Nannes

Welsh

Alan Wilkins (from 6th March onwards after Women's T20 WC)

England

Mark Butcher
Dominic Cork

New Zealand

Danny Morrison

South Africa

Kass Naido - a female
HD Ackerman
Jonty Rhodes

Dominic Cork was commentating in the 2009 Test series vs Sri Lanka when the incident happened and said he will never ever return to Pakistan in his lifetime. Obviously was emotional and opinions can change over time and he has now changed his mind.

Waqar is commentating that's conflict of interest.

Waqar is commentating that's conflict of interest.

Time Paine commentates in the BBL.
Occasionally Darren Lehmann commentated when he was Aus coach in the BBL.
Shastri commentated when he was an assistant Indian coach in the 2014 CLT20.

These guys will need just as much security as the players, as some people are not happy that the PSL is coming to PK.

Waqar Younis and Bazid Khan - Complete BOREFESTS.

Though Bazid has improved a bit, but he's still often out of vocabulary and monotonous, lacks emotions too.

Wasim & Waqar are the worst commentators in the world right now.

Dominic Cork coming back to Pakistan will be historic and the ultimate breakthrough. He was in Pakistan at the time of the Sri Lankan attacks and these were the comments he made immediately back then

If the PCB can successfully rope him in as a PSL commentator, it will be a huge breakthrough for our country and will send a resounding message to the entire world. Big kuddos to Dominic Cork for braving to come back to Pakistan after what happened in 2009 and letting bygones be bygones.

Exactly Savak mate.
Terrific to see Dom Cork making the trip over.
Classic case of never saying never given he once said he won't come here again in his lifetime.
Hope he has a cracking time on an off the field.
He is a top bloke.

These are all unconfirmed names - no official PCB announcement.

No Aamir Sohail.

PCB don't seem to like him.

But he makes excellent technical observations on cricket.

Doesn't just try to be best mates with fellow Pakistani commentators like Waqar, Rambo, Wasim are.

When he speaks in English he's much better than when he speaks in urdu in doing his analysis for various channels. Doesn't sound bitter when he speaks in English or doesn't make those occasional absurd remarks that we've seen from time to time in urdu.

Azhar Ali should be part of the commentary panel.

Maybe even Sana Mir.

Time to develop new commentators.

Let's have some current players. Not people that last picked up a bat or ball 20 years ago like Rambo and love to keep banging on about 1992 at every opportunity.

Can Urooj Mumtaz be our Isa Guha, Ebony Rainford Brent, Isabelle Westbury, Mel Jones, Lisa Sthalekar, Anjum Chopra etc?
Best wishes to her.

Hardly an inspiring list.

Could be PSL in mute again for me.

Quite a long list. I personally find Danny, Slater and Alan enjoyable. Have high hopes from Mark Butcher, Cork, Urooj Mumtaz and Naido as well.

Probably a much bigger and better panel than we have had in UAE if I am not wrong.

Cork, Ackerman and Jonty are poor names.

Don't know about Naido, Urooj or Nannes.

Others seem good.

Is it weird that I am looking more forward to hearing the non pakistani (bar Urooj who seems informative) commentators for this seasons PSL

For the first time in the history of the HBL Pakistan Super League, the fans and followers of the league will enjoy cricketing-action in the country’s national language.

A star-studded commentary panel – including Ramiz Raja, Bazid Khan, Waqar Younis and Urooj Mumtaz – will call action in Urdu for five overs every innings, which will be carried on the local feeds.

This enhancement is part of the PCB’s drive to provide improved live coverage to its fans and followers, allowing people to get closer to the event and the game.

In another new initiative, the SpiderCam will provide interactions between players and commentators during the two Eliminators and the final in Lahore, giving fans the essence of on-field action.

The coverage of the most-anticipated league will be done in full High-Definition by 28 cameras, which include Ultra motion and Super SloMo cameras, and to bring up-and-close experience of every match, SpiderCam and Hawkeye will implemented across all four venues – Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi – along with real-time graphics and augmented reality.

Joining the commentary panel for the first time in HBL PSL are Dirk Nannes, a former Australia and Netherlands fast-bowler, HD Ackerman, former South Africa cricketer, Mark Butcher and Dominic Cork, former England cricketers, and Kass Naido, while Danny Morrison, Michael Slater, Alan Wilkins, and Jonty Rhodes return to the league.

Alan Wilkins said: “It has been an absolute honour for me to remain associated with HBL Pakistan Super League since its very first game back in 2016 and I am certainly looking forward to being in Pakistan this year for the fifth edition. This is a special occasion for everyone associated with HBL PSL and I feel lucky that I will be a part of this historic event.”

Jonty Rhodes said: “Pakistan is a fascinating country and when you talk about cricket, Pakistani fans make every experience extremely memorable. I have always loved being in Pakistan and I certainly look forward to a very entertaining HBL Pakistan Super League this year. There are some very talented star players who will be in action and that means we will get to see quality cricket.”

Danny Morrison said: “These are exciting times for Pakistan cricket with all 34 HBL PSL games taking place in Pakistan. The quality of broadcast in HBL PSL has been a hallmark over the years and it is just lovely to be involved in such a high quality production once again.”

For the Urdu commentary they should’ve added Shoaib akhtar aswell

Urdu commentary is an interesting idea.

Could be a huge fail if people don't take to it.

Tariq Saeed is a great Urdu commentator. Should have been included.

PCB should’ve thought it through. It is very important to have professional commentators who are comfortable in the language they are commenting. Waqar Younis find it hard to string a single Urdu sentence without adding an English word in it.

I think like in IPL they should have had a different channel for Urdu commentary.

Dominic Cork should be honored and given the Nishan e Haider

I think like in IPL they should have had a different channel for Urdu commentary.

They are probably trying out 5 overs of Urdu to see what the response is, before going for a different channel.

PSL is telecasted on 3 channels in Pakistan. They should keep Urdu commentary for PTV and English for Ten and Geo Super.

I personally don't like Urdu commentary. However it's a different idea Let's see what happens l

Why would it be a fail, its a much needed change. Remember that, 99 percent of PSL viewers are of Pakistani descent. They would rather prefer Urdu to English anyways. Especially those living in Pakistan.

As long as Danny Morrison is there I don’t care about anyone else. Would be awesome if we got bumble.

It’s not some career path PCB sets up training camps and grooms them. What has azhar Ali shown you he should commentating. Heck does he even have a interest in commentating.

The broadcaster chooses commentators. It don’t work by “oh Rambo ain’t played in two decades, we need too groom the next generation, maybe even a youngster beauty.

Exactly. Otherwise it can turn people off as well and we might have to mute out the overs if it gets too cringey.
Its not a bad idea but needs proper execution or else it'll be cancelled before you can say 'Urdu'.

Why 5 overs of Urdu will be included in between every game? Can't they have a separate channel for that?

Not everyone will deem it a needed change just because it appeals to you.

Also non-Urdu speaking viewers won't be too excited by it.

Should have had a dedicated channel for Urdu commentary in my opinion. You shouldnt be forcing all the viewers to listen to 5 overs of Urdu commentary, there should be a choice.

That being said its a good initiative though execution could have been different but, lets see how it goes.

Wanted to see Isa Guha as one of the commentators, hopefully she’s around for the next season

Maybe Urdu for Domestic and English for Foreign

Exactly. Otherwise it can turn people off as well and we might have to mute out the overs if it gets too cringey.

I can tell you a bit about Nannes. He has done plenty of BBL & Test commentary in Australia for TV & Radio. He's quite good, has insights about the life of t20 mercenary & international cricket that he is pretty fearless- he never really was part of any chummy club so he will tell the truth. Quite a refreshing perspective given that so much commentary in Oz is pathetic old score settling or "trying to be the matey-est mate who ever mated".

They are probably trying out 5 overs of Urdu to see what the response is, before going for a different channel.

Yup, probably will decide on response whether to move it to a seperate channel or keep it.

Great news, for me the biggest coup is probably Mark Butcher, very underated commie, comes up with some real anecdotal gems and he is really funny, pakistanis may struggle with his humour but i for one will be looking forward to it, also dominic cork and dirk nannes, good to see we are evolving from the usual Danny Morrison, alan wilkins token inclusions.

The match becomes more entertaining with Michael Slater s commentary:sarf

Mark Butcher is the best commentator of the lot. He's outstanding for Sky and for cricket podcasts.

Cant wait for Mark Butcher he is amazing.
Also obviously Slats and Danny bring life, it especially helps mitigate the effects of Bazid Khan.

Interviewed him a few days ago.
