PCB serves legal notice to Kamran Akmal for his comments on media

Pakistan’s discarded wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has been served with a legal notice by the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman for allegedly making defamatory and offensive comments on the media.

A source close to Kamran confirmed that he got a notice from the legal department of the board, served on behalf of chairman Ramiz Raja.
“I don’t know exactly what charges they have made against Kamran but apparently the legal notice has been sent because the chairman feels Kamran made defamatory, false and offensive comments on the media about him,” the source said.

A source in the cricket board made it clear that more legal notices could be sent to some other former players who have their own Youtube channels and appear regularly on the media for their comments.

“Some of them clearly cross the line while criticising the team, management, board and chairman and Ramiz has made it clear he is not going to tolerate anyone running down or defaming Pakistan cricket anymore,” the source said.

He said the PCB’s legal team had been told to take immediate action if any comments by any former player on his own YT channel or on television channels is found to be defamatory, offensive, personal, false and damaging to Pakistan cricket.

Some former players were brutal in their criticism of the Pakistan team when it lost its first two matches in the World Cup and even after they were beaten in the final by England on Sunday.

Some have also called for a change in the board and team management and some want Babar Azam replaced as captain.

Not sure what Kami said but some of our former cricketers need action like this. It's one thing to criticize but most of the time there is a malicious agenda against half the selected squad.

Why doesn’t Babar serve legal notice to Wasim Akram? I think he will win a defamation case against him

Hope he sends a legal notice to Mohd Amir.

Think a knock for knock thing will ensue and no one will get sued!

Akmals are always easy targets because they have no clout now

Go after Wasim, Waqar, Malik, Amir, Wahab

Why are they going after the easy target only?

Send a legal notice to Tanvir Ahmed and Shoaib Akhtar also

Why? What lies did Amir tell?

It is ok to criticise but it cannot be a lie that damages the image of PCB or a player

Using unparliamentary language. Making comments that Ramiz is power hungry e.t.c.

If this sets a precedent, then legal notices will be flying around like confetti. :))

Next should be Tanveer Ahmed he is the worst of the lot.. Amir & a few others will probably cool down

Good from Ramiz. A lot of thrash from former cricketers who have nothing better to do. Some even have their own agendas and do not refrain from bringing PCB down for these.

Surely the chairman can’t use public funds on his personal defence?

The office of the Chairman is being challenged.

But this isn’t the first or the last time this will happen

Let him go ahead with these legal notices and make a fool of himself

As someone that doesn't follow what these ex cricketers have been saying, can someone elaborate. From the quotes I read on here most of it seems sensationalist and stupid but hardly defamatory.

Finally! It's frustrating watching every cricket analysis outlet in Pakistan be covered by bias former cricketers who base their opinions on their personal likes and dislikes and hate toward certain players. There's no joy in listening to them as most of what they say is purely off emotions.

Why listen to them,I don't. Trust your own opinions. I have spent time with ex pros and tbh, I came away feeling that I knew more than them but their status as an ex cricketer gave their opinions credibility.

Such legal notices reek of insecurity and intolerance. Kamran and others are in no position of power to dictate anything, it makes no difference what they say.

If you don’t like what they just say ignore and move on.

Excellent from Rambo, why not also open an inquiry regarding Sydney 2010 and who went on long drive with Mazhar Majeed, Kamran look before you leap

Good by PCB.

Legal notice needs to be sent to amir and tamveer ahmad. Would love to see hefty fines be made and if amir doesnt pay up, he can be asked to get out of the psl.

Seriously, trying to pick up fights with the chairman, amir is risking the no career he has in psl

Good for PCB but it was quite a sight to watch the faces of all these ex cricketers when Pak made the semis and the finals. I am quite happy with that alone.

That show with Amir, Wahab and Salim Malik was the most toxic thing I have recently seen on TV. Wahab definitely disappointed me the most as he was pretty decent in last year’s The Pavilion show.

Expressing his thoughts on the issue, Butt said, "Rehne de ye show? Kahi legal notice na aa jaaye (Should we stop the show? Else we might also get legal notice)."

But was of the opinion that there is nothing wrong in passing opinions, incase if the person is speaking on the basis of his/her experience. The Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter had represented the country in all the three formats, and has a total of 58 appearances in the shorter format.

“Speaking about technical aspects, giving your opinion and speaking based on your experience, especially those who have much more of it than policy-makers is fine. You cannot challenge opinions. You can convince people with your explanation, logic and reasoning," added Butt.

Though Butt requested fans and experts to refrain themselves from making any personal attacks, or not cross the line.

“There is one more thing here. If we are talking about something, it should not personally hit anyone. We should not cross the line with regards to someone’s personality, looks and personal lives. We have not right to do that. Nor does anyone else have a right to cross the line against us. If someone has done it, people should refrain from such things," the former Pakistan opener stated further.

As per sources, the PCB had exchanges with Kamran Akmal on this matter, following which the PCB will not be pursuing this matter any further.

Akmals are easy targets tbh and the likes of Amir etc have said much worse stuff about PCB.

Should serve the notice to Amir rather than Kami.

Everyone with a YT channel these days says a lot of stuff. Ramiz himself is a YT user. He would have said against PCB in the past as well.

Ahmed Shehzad despite being a domestically contracted player said way more than others about PCB but he hasn't been served any notice.

Good from Rambo dealing with full force, and as per sources Akmal already on knees yet another drop him :akhtar

So much of intolerance. Praise them for pathetic performances and dumb decisions. Where is the freedom of expression ?

Good for PCB. Kami and Associates would’ve wiped the floor with Ramiz and PCB in the courtroom after years of disrespect and negligence.

Ramiz Raja has been heavily roasted by former Pakistan cricketers from every corner. Raja was sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman this month, following which Naman Sethi was appointed as the new chief. The development took place shortly after Pakistan's deplorable show against England in the three-match Test series at home, which Babar Azam and Co. lost 0-3.

Following the development, Raja has been extremely critical of the new members taking charge at PCB. Addressing fans online earlier this week, Raja launched a scathing attack on Sethi, also making stunning revelations about how things were handled the next morning after the late night announcement.

Raja's comments didn't go well with the PCB, which threatened to take legal action against the former chairman for his allegations. Not just PCB, but former Pakistan cricketers too have weighed in on the hot topic, with many taking a dig at Raja's outburst following the sacking.

Former Pakistan batter Salman Butt and wicketkeeper batter Kamran Akmal are the new members to share their views on the subject. The two came together during a live interaction on Butt's YouTube channel.

The interaction started with Butt taking a cheap shot at Raja over the legal notice, which was sent to Akmal by PCB after the T20 World Cup 2022, where Pakistan finished as the runners-up.

Butt: “Suna tha aapko kisi ne legal notice bheja tha, ab woh chale gaye hain toh kisi ne notice hi nahi kiya.” (I had heard that someone sent you a legal notice, and now he's gone, but no one noticed it.)

However, Akmal clarified that it was a misunderstanding by the media and nothing like this happened. He also countered asking, why will he get a legal notice.

Akmal: “Waisi koi baat nahi hain, woh galat news thi. Aur mere khayal se media pe misunderstanding hogyi jo aisi baat aayi.” (Nothing as such happened. It was fake news and I think there was some misunderstanding by media.)
