LAHORE: There is a big difference between the match fees being paid by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to its umpires and referees and what is paid by its neighbouring country India.

This month the Indian cricket board (BCCI) has fixed a fee of Indian rupees 40,000 per-day for its top 20 umpires for all first-class matches except T20 games. For the T20 the match-fees is IRS 20,000 per day. It may be mentioned that this match-fees is more than what is being paid to an Indian first-class cricketer who gets Rs 35,000 per day.

In stark contrast, the PCB is paying Rs 6,000 per day to its elite panel of umpires with 17.5 per cent income tax for non-filer and 10 per cent for the filers. The Grade-I umpires are entitled to get Rs 5,500 per day as match fees.

Recently the PCB has also decided to increase the match fee of the cricketers under a new formula. Now instead of giving a monthly stipend to 20 players of each region, only the players who are part of the playing XI will get paid.

The Indian cricket board is paying Rs 30,000 per day to all other umpires, outside the list of top 20, and the same amount to match referees. A scorer in India is getting Rs 10,000 per day and a senior video analyst gets Rs 15,000 per day.

What a world of difference. Which person in their right mind would sign up for 6000/day. Way to drive talent away from the sport.

Also if that 6,000 number is in Pak. rupees isn't it worth even less when compared to the Ind. 40,000?

30000 a match is still probably more than what domestic regional players make.

INR 30,000 a day to umpires outside of the top-20? That's an awesome amount. You spend 10 days working in a month and earn a neat 36 lakhs/year.

No wonder bar Aleem Dar, Pakistan has the worst umpires.

As if India has the best umpires in the world.

Bottom line is - there is just too much money in Indian cricket. The coming generations should look at exploring careers in this industry. There's glamour, exciting work (better than crunching useless data for increasing revenue of a footwear brand), overseas opportunities and what not. Plus you get to meet your favorite stars, if you're lucky. If you're luckier, you get to become a Laxman Sivaramakrishnan or a Mayanti Langer. Can't even imagine what it's like to be a Ravi Shastri.

Of course, all money is reserved for frequent trips of Sethi and PCB goons to everywhere around the world, including all tours, and for journalists who would have in any case covered the series of Pakistan/PSL/ICC just for the sake of it.
