Reminder that Sharjeel was banned for 5 years with half of the ban suspended; he can effectively be free to play again in less than two years.

My humble request is for the PCB to release a detailed minute sheet of the entire charge against Sharjeel Khan and how he was convicted to be guilty.

Seems like PCB will always save players whoever they like from any type of crime. It started with Akram, went on with Amir and now This guy.

PCB has appealed for a stiffer sentence = 'PCB will always save players'? :danish

Did you even mind reading the thread title properly?

Where is the proof???? That is one thing I haven't even seen against Sharjeel.

Sharjeel should just accept the punishment, apologize, and work to educate himself and others about fixing. This is the only way he has any chance of a comeback.

PCB have not any strong evidence. Sharjeel and Khalid may find a way out of their sentence if court requires strong evidence from PCB.

They should. They are country's asset. They should be punished in a locked room. Look how BCCI wiped away Dhoni's crimes by trashing whole CSK team.

I have to stick on my stand - it was already harsh & PCB now is trying to make a scarecrow at the expense of a guy who comes from a small town, speaks Sindhi as mother tongue & doesn't represent the dominant ethnic group, neither supports the political party in power.

I don't trust PCB life sentences, Shoaib Akhtar was given a life ban for dope test positive, which got overturned in 6 months and he was eligible to play for t20 world cup 2007, he fudged up by beating asif with the bat after that hahaah :))

Yes but on the end of the day; the selectors belong to the PCB and can be dictated. They simply won't pick Sharjeel.

Sharjeel appeals against ban, PCB seeks tougher sentence

Karachi, Sep 22 (PTI) Former Pakistan batsman Sharjeel Khan and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) filed separate appeals with an independent adjudicator against the decision of the three-member Anti-Corruption Tribunal on Thursday.

While Sharjeel has appealed against the five-year ban imposed on him the PCB has appealed for a tougher sentence on the batsman.

The tribunal headed by a former judge of the Lahore High Court found Sharjeel guilty on all five counts brought against him by the PCB in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing case but didn’t fine the batsman and also suspended half of his five-year sentence which is counted from February, 2017 when Sharjeel and his Pakistan teammate, Khalid Latif were sent back home from Dubai.

“We are not satisfied with the ban imposed on Sharjeel and feel that since the tribunal has found him guilty of all five beaches of the anti-corruption code which we charged him with. We want a longer ban and heavy fine imposed on him,” Tafazzul Rizvi the legal advisor of the PCB told PTI.

Incidentally, Sharjeel’s lawyer, Shaighan Ejaz and the PCB legal advisor both filed appeals with the board around the same time on Thursday and now the PCB will appoint an independent adjudicator which will be a former judge of the Supreme Court to hold the appeal hearings.

Ejaz said their appeal was based on the fact that the PCB had provided no evidence to the tribunal under which his client could be held guilty of accepting a spot-fixing offer and doing the act.

“My client does not accept the five charges. He only accepts the charge of not reporting an offer on time to the PCB,” Ejaz said.

He pointed out that the tribunal’s decision to suspend half of the minimum five-year ban on his client indicated even they were not satisfied with the case prepared by the board.

“We decided to go to the independent adjudicator because even if our appeal is dismissed we have the option of going to the high court or supreme courts. If we had gone to the international Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Geneva, their verdict would have been final with no avenue to appeal further in the higher courts,” he explained.

Meanwhile Khalid Latif’s lawyer, Badr Alam claimed the PCB had victimised both players particularly his client for reasons best known to them.

“The due course of law and its requirements were not followed at all in our case. In fact, we we were not even allowed to cross examine the five witnesses produced by the PCB in our absence before the tribunal.”

Alam said that his client would definitely appeal against the five-year ban and one million rupees fine imposed on him by the tribunal.

“We don’t accept the authority of this tribunal which didn t provide justice to us and we have already filed a petition in the supreme court seeking justice,” he said.

hyderabad is not a small town. And sharjeel is not innocent

Sharjeel and his lawyer have chosen to go to an "independent" adjudicator to be appointed by PCB who is a retired judge instead of CAS. This is very fishy. Surely if you are innocent, you would prefer going to a forum which is completely independent of PCB. Either that or Sharjeel's lawyer is deliberately misguiding him.

Read the title, secondly it was the ICC that conducted the Amir case.

I think they're avoiding the judiciary since no one wants an in-depth investigation. It's a can of worms. Sharjeel has something to hide and PCB might not have enough to convict Sharjeel in a criminal case.

It's tiny, compared to Lahore & Karachi - only population size doesn't determine the status of a city in South Asia. He is indeed guilty, but you don't put every one for firing squad or life imprisonment for every crime.

MMHS I think ban was fair, maybe even a bit lenient considering he carried the fix.

But that's just my opinion.
