PCB is a profitable and revenue generating institution in Pakistan, like BCCI.
BCCI has set an example by paying the Olympic athletes money in the range of 25 Lakh INR to 1.25 INR.

PCB also should set and example and give some amount to the athletes.
Atleast to Arshad and Talha for encouragement.
Thoughts?

Nope they should not.

This is not pcbs domain and they are already bashed bybothers that they get morr attention when in fact they make their own money.

For reference:

The BCCI on Saturday announced cash rewards for India's medal winners at the Tokyo Olympics with Rs 1 crore reserved for Neeraj Chopra, who became country's first track and field athlete to win a gold medal. Javelin thrower Chopra secured India's second individual gold in Olympic history with a sensational performance. In a tweet, BCCI secretary Jay Shah also announced that Rs 50 lakh each will be given to silver medallists -- Mirabai Chanu and Ravi Dahiya. Mirabai Chanu won India's first weightlifting medal at the Games and Ravi Dahiya became only the second wrestler from the country to win a silver after Sushil Kumar (2012).

The bronze medallists -- wrestler Bajrang Punia, boxer Lovlina Borgohain and shuttler P V Sindhu -- will get Rs 25 lakh each.

The men's hockey team which won its first Olympic medal in 41 years will get Rs 1.25 crore.

Later in the day, IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings announced a Rs 1 crore reward for Chopra.

"As a mark of appreciation and honour on his stellar achievement, CSK is awarding Rs. 1 Crore to Neeraj Chopra," said CSK in a statement.

"CSK will be creating a special jersey with the number 8758 as a mark of respect to Neeraj Chopra," it added.

It is the government’s responsibility.

We cant really compare PCB to a billionaire cricket board.

For what!!!! Winning people's heart. Cheap mentality like this are killing our sports. Both fans and PCB management are happy to perform reasonable well and win hearts rather than win.

PCB is not really rich by any global standard. It should focus on cricket and leave the promotion of other sports in the country to worthies who are PhDs, double PhDs and triple PhDs in sports.

I wish its not only reserved to the winners. Any Olympian has slogged their back sides out to be there deserves some sort of award and reward. As Baron Pierre de coubertain had ordained the true spirit of the olympics is taking part, winning or loosing is co-incidental. In addition we have the Saar from our book about 'karm' and rewards...any ways - i wish every sports person got something for participation....
also i chanced upon the pak weight lifter, i thought he was plucky and passionate , such a young chap has a bright future...
Sports above everything else !

:)), Its shame that this olympics happened during our so called triple sports phd tenure.

Yet, our olympians had little facilities or resources.

Problem is the okympic spirit of taking part is understood in west.

The subcontinent has ridiculous standards. We believe that if you get medal you get appreciation or else no appreciation.

PCB doesn't make 20% of what BCCI makes so PCB needs to support their domestic cricket first and produce superstars like Wasim and Akhtar first then think about supporting olympics.

As a good will gesture can't they give even 25 lakhs PKR to Arshad Nadeem?

Not sure why posters are saying no. A few lakh PKR would be good for encouragement.
Arshad came really close and with some backing he would have won a medal for sure.
Time to back him and Talha is right now as both are good prospects, not when after 4 years.

because cricket gets blamed for others ports not flourishing even though it is not crickets fault.

PCB makes its own money, and the other sports boards and federation should be doing the same.

PCB has to look after its employees current and ex, and the money that they give to these guys could be invested in a pension fund or be given to cricketers.

Its the govts job to look after other sports if their boards have failed.

Can you show me where Pakistan Football Federation has blamed either PCB or cricket for not allowing football to flourish?

No one is blaming PCB, all they’re saying is that the government should invest more into their sports just like they did with cricket.

? govt doesnt invest in cricket. PCB is self financing organization. this is the confusion that you people have that oh govt gives them money thats why they succeed.
Osman Samiuddiin has already wrote in an article that the last time PCB took money from the govt was in the 80s after that it was self finance.

Also you do need to read up interviews of football players and other sports players and staff, how they blame cricket for everything

25 Lakh is nothing bro, as Major Saab mentioned let honorable prime minsterji deal with it. PCB needs 25 lakh for other good causes :inti

Also, money shouldn't be a motivator for a true athlete, it should be passion and jazba junoon to win that medal. Money has ruined several athletes like John Cena, Mankind, Bret Hart etc

The Pakistan government does invest in cricket, it doesn’t have to be giving money directly to PCB. The Pakistan government have been building stadiums all over Pakistan especially in the northern areas, that’s investment. How many football pitches are there in Pakistan that’s open to public?

Maybe if Arshad had proper coaches working with him, he wouldn’t of kept over stepping the line and committing foul throws in the final, it’s time the government started to support these athletes better

Why is PCB under the control of Government and PM if it's a self financing organization? Think it should be like BCCI which is fully privatized organization with no interference from the government. Just a query.

nope, just becuase you make money doesnt mean you have to go privatization.

PCB should fall under govt as it keeps proper checks and balance, plus we rely on security from the govt. Its also that one orgniazation of the govt that is actually making money for them, so why should theuy privatize it.

PCB can barely support their current cricketers who are centrally contracted so what makes you think they’ll be supporting athletes who are performing well. I don’t understand the obsession with following India or BCCI unless they truly want to learn from them and follow their steps. Change starts from the top so the Pakistan government will need to make big changes rather than talking a big game, making lame excuses and expecting a miracle of change which is what the current governments been upto.

I don't think they have to, a few hundred thousand rupees would be a good gesture but they really don't have to. The funding needs to come from the federal govt and businesses, it needs to be a public-private partnership. Also encouraging more upper class/upper middle class families who can afford to fund their own kids sports ambitions.

Even if PCB doesn't, the business houses who own the PSL teams can come up with some sort of award.

This is a dumb idea and sets a bad precedent considering these athletes get no support from those who are responsible for them, BCCI doing it is a bit different considering these athletes are already a part of a professional Olympic programme

BCCI always gets heavy flak from all quarters in India - so they dole out cash rewards for Olympic winners to earn goodwill and some PR brownie points

Doubt PCB faces such issues in Pakistan
