There are a few players on the fringe.
Shan masood
Saud S
Umar A

Many of us believe they are better than the players we have in the team. Why does the PCB not have a five match series between the best players in Pakistan.

I for one believe some of these guys are better than a Hafeez and Malik.

So why does the PCB not use the time have the best 22 players play agaisnt each other before choosing their final World Cup team.

Pakistan A could play Umar A as the keepe drop Rizwan and play another bowler.

I think this would be a solid game to watch. You can even switch the fast bowlers around if need be.

I guess players would ideally like a bit of rest after the Australia ODIs.

I also think that they should be fresh before they travel to UK and also not to risk any injury.

However, if players are up for it then it is definitely a good way to test players.

I never understand why this thought of Pak vs Pak A matches is not entertained.

Imo a good number of people will also come to watch the matches if they are held in Pakistan (which the will be).

Three match day night one day series will be a cracker.

Idea is good but do you really expect any changes to the WC team based on this? If Malik fails, will you leave him home? If it's just for practise, then answer is no. There is another thread discussing if Pakistan is playing too many games before the WC

Would never happen. The selectors would be exposed badly if somebody in the A side outscores somebody like Malik. You don't want an injury to key players also like Shaheen, Babar.

Even a three match series is sufficient. Can't someone forward this idea to the PCB?

Would be a great moment to try out some players for the last time.

Very good idea in WC year. BCCI used to arrange this at the start of every season with 3 teams, resting confirmed players. BCB also arranges such series but there is no regular calendar as such.

Instead of PAK A, B & C; ideally it should be 2 (better 3) identical teams with similar players at similar spots. Like Malik, Hafeez & Haris should be in 3 teams; Imad, Nawaz & Gohar in 3 teams, Faheem, Amad, Yamin ... and so on. Sarfraz & couple of potential captains (for WC) should lead 3 sides. May be to manage the workloads, they can rest few overworked & confirmed players like Sarfraz, Amir, Shaheen, Hasan....

36 players in 3 teams, playing 3 rounds (6 games each) and each team using the same combination PAK is planing to use in WC. May be, PCT management can select 36 such players and the they go for a 12 round draft. Here, 12x3 players are fixed - draft is only to pick one of 3 similar player from each round; this should ensure that 3 teams are balanced and reflects a mini PAK team. Most importantly, we’ll be able to see players at their defined roles - players picked for stats from a different position often doesn’t work at other position/role.

Would love to see something like this, but I'd rather see more up and coming players who perform well in this PSL included in the Pakistan A squad. However, I think we have seen the back of U akmal and S Maqsood guys. Especially U Akmal, we shouldn't even consider picking him after his disciplinary issues. Look at the example of KP. Was a great batsman but his career wasn't as long or as fruitful as it could have been because the ECB weren't ready to deal with his attitude.

Deodhar Trophy is still a regular thing.

Good idea - bowlers should be switched around by game so batsmen face both sets of bowlers

pretty neat idea - could have an ODI in each major city (Karachi, Lahore, Pindi, Peshawar, Multan...)

with Rauf, Musa, Shinwari in the A-side, Pakistan could have a real challenge

they did do a Pakistan vs Pakistan A sometime in 2009 I believe?

Pakistan A was led by Hafeez and they beat Pakistan

Such a series will be a commercial failure.

Quite simply - our fans and media are not interested in seeing a second string squad get embarrassed. Due to both being national squads - I do not see much hype for this game either.

We're not talking from an entirely commercial POV. The people we want to be seeing these matches are the selectors and coaches. The purpose of these games is to give up and coming players a chance and see them battling it out against each other on the field to decide who is the best for the national team.

We have PSL and INT series' for crowd gathering.

Idea is good, but the schedule is packed.

However... There's a 50-over domestic tournament (Pakistan Cup I guess) that is usually held around April. If that's on the horizon then this would be a good alternative option as a one off.

First of all, Insecure selectors can't risk entertaining this idea.

Secondly, we have very poor pitches.

Haha

Btw our pitches are not that poor as we have different kind of pitches in different cities.

I think environment will be great if the matches are day night. Most probably will be a hit on tv too if advertising is done properly.

We need to rest players too. We have 10 odis before the world cup and our bowlers for whatever reason can't maintain intensity for long durations and pace dips.
Shaheen for example needs to be play first odis of Aus series and last 2 odis of England series. He needs to be in optimum condition for the WC

Saj would this be an idea that could be entertained by the PCB?
