Yes - this idea was explored in the PSL when Viv was a mentor for the Gladiators and Sanga was a mentor for the Kings.

However, I think it is a good idea to explore it in international cricket esp for our batsmen who need help in certain situations.

For those who think it is a waste of money and resources, our coaching staff are too busy with many things that they have on their plate and we need someone who an guide our players on a personal basis before and after they go out to bat e.g. strength and weaknesses of bowlers, pitch conditions, scoring areas, how to play to their strengths etc. Basically work with them on a personal level...

I would also like to see these mentor(s) hold one on one discussions with each batsman after a series to see how they did, areas they need improvement on, areas they did well in and provide input to the PCB.

Of course - players can choose to ignore the advice of their mentors but they should also expect to be held to greater scrutiny if their performances are not satisfactory.

I would recommend getting someone local like Misbah and YK to be mentors for our batsman.

Yes that is right.

Before you jump the gun and say Misbah and Yk were not great LOI batsman to begin with - keep in mind there is a difference in planning and execution. Whilst Misbah and YK struggled with execution during their own LOI career - they can help our batsman plan out their innings beforehand and have a clear mind on what to do and how to play out their innings. The execution part is then over to the batsman and the ball will be in theiri court. Misbah/YK's advice will be invaluable and they are HIGHLY respected in the dressing room and amongst youngsters so their advice will hold a lot of weight.

Eventually in the long run - we may also get foreign mentors like Sanga, Dravid, Sachin etc. who understand their asian culture and mindset and would do well with our batsman. Yes - it would be expensive to hire such mentors but it is worth the investment IMO.
Saj MenInG Abdullah719 - could we also add a poll for whether the PCB should get mentors for our batsman?

How will you set KPI on mentors? How will you know whether mentors are working properly or not?
What if we see no result after a year of mentor-ship?

1 idea coukd be to hire Pak mentors (although there are few batting greats).
Coz they will work by heart. Foreigners will come and go.

You've answered your point yourself by mentioning planning and execution. Mentors can only provide a plan for your innings but the execution has to be done by the batsman himself. The modern cricket is you have to hit sixes and fours and keep a strike rate of 100+ from ball 1. Our batsmen know this but they can't execute it. No amount of mentoring can help Fawad Alam hit 60 off 30 balls because he has zero hitting ability. It'll be a waste of time. The only benefit is maybe we'll lose less wickets till the 40th over but that's about it. Hitting is now more of a science than an art. We need coaches who can teach our batsmen in the domestic on how to hit the ball. I've noticed most of our domestic batsmen hold the bat right at the bottom and that's a big no-no if you want to hit the ball a mile. Unless you have the strength and physique of someone like Pollard/Gayle, you have to hold the bat like Razzaq/Sammy/Gilchrist who held it higher.

The best thing that the PCB can do for this team is to get rid of the players that have the stench of mental weaknesses.
You cannot have a team where the seniors are Malik, Hafeez, and Akmal.
If these are the players that a new guy in the team has to look up to, he will not get very far

need someone who's Pakistani and isn't interested in any politics

England hired a base ball coach... azhar mehmood can also teach the bowlers on hitting ability... u need only the lower order to slog few sixers, azhar can help on that... In domestics there are only players who can hit or tuk tuk or get out trying to hit...Only pak batsmen hit straight to the fielder...

For example to a spinner the simple shots to score singles are
straight down the ground for a single
leg side just flicking from the pads
too short hit the ball on the head on off side...

In reality, what pak batsman do is hit straight to cover, midwicket, backward square leg, point finish..the opponents place only 4-5 fielders in the ring but only it is pak batsman who will hit straight to them 4 out of 5 times which is 000010 in an over...it continues the same for 2-3 overs then comes a big shot and a wicket...

Fielding against Pak is so simple nowadays that the opponent doesnt have to worry about setting up a batsman to apply pressure or trap a batsman.. so simple that they voluntarily hit straight to the fielders and when RR climbs up will hit one 6 and lose their wicket to a slower ball..

Teach them the basics first then can master the art of power hitting... Team placed at no.8 rankings need to learn the basics first and apply them into their batting for execution... When they climb up the order try to master the art of power hitting... They are minnow level in ODIs now shouldn't be thinking too ahead..

Pakistan should have involved jammie Siddeons at some level , he is a very good batting coach.
