PCB to construct stadium in Skardu

GILGIT – Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Saturday said that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed willingness to establish a state-of-the-art stadium in Skardu to furnish talented players of the area with ample training chances.

CM said this during a briefing arranged by Deputy Commissioner regarding ongoing development projects in Skardu. He said that team of Gilgit-Baltistan would also participate in next Pakistan Super League matches.

He said that the project of Sports Complex Skardu that was being delayed would soon be materialised with the assistance of Federal Ministry of Sports adding playing grounds for cricket, hockey and football would be established under the project.

He informed that resources were being utilised to complete all the ongoing developmental work within stipulated time limit. He said that approval has been accorded to establish solid waste management company for Skardu that would help improve the standard of sanitation facilities in the city.

Taking note of the non-functional power plants in Gultari, he sought a report from the concerned department. He also directed to remove encroachments from the streams saying it would help saving precious lives and property during floods.

He said that 100 hotels were under construction for the tourists in various areas of the province. He also directed the establishment of tent villages in famous tourist attractions adding administration and private should devise a viable plan for the project.

CM informed that for the first time a committee has been constituted to introduce land reforms that would soon start its ground work.

He also directed to start paper work for initiating solar driven schemes to irrigate barren lands in Skardu.-APP

GB in general and Skardu in particular are more peaceful than rest of Pakistan.People of GB are moderate and share liberal values.People belonging to various sects have been living peacefully for years.Probability of terrorist incidents happening in GB is quite low.A stadium here can help PCB for revival of international cricket in Pakistan.

I have visited there, more than 15 years ago, lovely people, friendly, peaceful and moderate, wish all Pakistanis were like them.

Flight to Skardu was a bit adventurous, but extremely scenic.

Even if something happens, will be a small cricket ground for local club cricket, nothing international class.

That region is the best in Pak though. In terms of beauty, peace and hospitality .

Gaddafi stadium needs to be a minimum 70k seater stadium. Right now its 23k, how pathetic.

Yes, GS's capacity is pathetic , it used to be more than 40 K and now has decreased.

As a cricket fan - couldn't be happier. Cricket needs to be expanded to all parts of the world and it would be lovely to see youth from GB.

As a Pakistani - Its amazing. World cricket needs to see the beautiful side of Pakistan along with the most beautiful and peaceful people.

As someone who's concerned about the environment - Knowing how Pakistani's do things. I absolutely despise this. Skardu is toooo beautiful and will most definitely be destroyed. There will be deforestation, industries, factories, more cars, more traffic, it will absolutely annihilate the beauty of the area.

In seriousness, no need for a stadium, could just make a ground thats it.

There isn't any point of making a full stadium if the resources arn't going to be used.

Once you make a stadium, general public arn't allowed to use it.

No thanks. We don't need one. First of all, it'll cost too much and there will be a lot of deforestation in the only area that we do have available, Shakar Parian Forest. Emphasis on FOREST. It is a FOREST. Something Pakistan lacks already.

Pathetic advice. We don't have international cricket in Pakistan but lets make lucrative stadiums because the ones that we already have are being used so much, right? Rather have the spend money on something else.
