I have seen a peculiar trend which is seldom seen with other fans. They blame the people who dragged the team near the finishing line for not crossing it and forget about the other culprits who have an even bigger role in the loss.

Exhibits :

1. Misbah T20 WC matches against India.
2. Misbah 2011 WC match
3. Asad Shafiq in yesterday's loss for not farming strike

And many more such occasions which are not on top of my mind. I guess you guys can understand my point. Why is this the case ??

If not for Shafiq's magnificent 100, the loss margin woukd have been 200 plus. Yet he is copping the blame and being roasted in a thread right now. I find this really strange.

Poor performance in the matches before is probably why he turned up when there's nothing to lose game almost lost but couldn't make the extra 30-40 needed to win.
Had he performed consistently he would be praised for showing up in different situations he has a pattern of 1 hundred and 5 failures.

A 20 each from Masood and Aslam is what was needed. Shafiq made his share of contribution. Alarmingly Masood and Aslam are just footnotes and Shafiq is being blamed big time for this.

Yeah - blaming the player who almost won the game. Ridiculous.

That is what amazes me the most. A significant contribution is looked down upon compared to a nothing contribution which is one of the main reason for the loss.

Misbah certainly didn't deserve blame for 2007. I've always opposed that nonsense.

But 2011 was unacceptable. His innings placed needless pressure on the others to go for attacking shots. The RR kept climbing while he played an innings no one can truly explain.

And Shafiq is getting the blame because he failed 3/4 times leading to a series loss. He's a senior player now and the standards rise. PAK didn't groom him so he can still be held to the same standards as a young Sami, Babar, or Haris.

Useless centuries don't cut it unless the goal is to save your spot. :)

I think Shafiq is not blamed for his 4th inning effort, he is getting all this criticism for not being consistent and continuing his trend of playing one good inning per series.
