Pemra bans Shahid Masood's program for 45 days 4 leveling serious n baseless allegations against Chief Justice SHC

KARACHI: In an apparent gag on freedom of media, Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority has imposed 45-day ban on ARY News program ‘Live with Dr. Shahid Masood’.

The Pemra stated in its order that the ban was imposed on programme as it reportedly aired allegations on Sindh High Court chief justice in one of the episodes.

ARY counsel in the case, Advocate Moinuddin, said it looked as if the decision of Pemra was taken in haste and “it may have some malafide intent’.

The hearing of the case was conducted by Pemra’s council of complaint in Karachi.

Mr. Moinuddin was of the view that Pemra didn’t consider our adjournment plea and imposed the ban on programme without issuing any complaint.

“We could have gone to Islamabad to plead our case, but that chance was not provided to us.”

The advocate expressed surprise that the order issued by Pemra didn’t contain signatures of the authority rather it was endorsed by the council of complaint.

Senior anchor Dr. Shahid Masood said: “What anyone could do if the government misconstrued his statement in the program.”

He said government must tell what actually was objectionable in the programme that stirred up the hornet’s nest.

Shahid was the face of our news media from 9/11 to to 2007 until he was banned by Musharraf (his ban was extended while hamid mir and all others were allowed to appear on screen).

He enjoyed big roles and saw lot of up and down during his media career. He was the first one in our news media to do live talk shows on current affairs. He enjoyed director/exuecutive positions at Geo/ARY/Express and also was head of PTV for 6 months and after that he resigned.

It was strange to see him joining small channels like Din News and NewsOne and doing programs there after enjoying all these big positions. The reason was hiring him means making any current govt angry and that means less ads thats one of the reason big channels were staying away from him in last 4/5 years until ARY got him back because they were already not in the good books of PMLN govt. He was never in the good books of any govt including Mush, Zardari and NS so that at least showed he was never a lifaafa anchor.

Many many big leaks came through him including the Mush/Benazir and Kayani NRO meeting in Dubai and they kept denying it for almost a year until it was proved.

There was plenty of criticism from many quarters, like how, after being patient, and after the ultimate disgrace of Aziza K escaping in a burqa, and knowing there were human shields being used, the authorities should have bided their time some more, waited for them to surrender, or somehow been less heavy-handed.

But Masood went beyond that. He actually supported Aziza and Ghazi. The tone of his articles was disgustingly hagiographic. He painted Ghazi in particular as some sort of decent, well-meaning if naive rebel. He tried to legitimize their acts, and trivialized the fact that they were running a mini-state within the capital, claiming that whatever they did was simply a natural reaction to the decadence of Islamabad's population.

The guy is no radical nutty preacher, he is a political pundit who happens to oppose the criminal family enterprise. The more people he politically awakens the better it is.
