The embattled prime minister, Imran Khan has succeeded in wooing his estranged ally PML-Q to support him on the matter of no-confidence motion tabled against him by the joint opposition in the National Assembly on Monday.

Prime Minister Imran’s special assistant on political communication Shahbaz Gill said that the PML-Q leadership has assured its support to the premier on the no-trust move.

The PTI will support Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as the candidate for the post of Punjab chief minister, he announced on his official Twitter handle on Monday.

PML-Q's leader Chaudhry Moonis Elahi has also confirmed that the post has been accepted by Elahi.

Elahi along with a dozen senior party leaders met with the prime minister at his residence in Bani Gala – after the Nation Assembly accepted a no-trust motion against the Prime Minister Imran Khan – for the final round of talks choosing a side.

After tough negotiations, the premier has accepted their demand to sacrifice Buzdar in favour of PML-Q’s Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. The PML-Q leadership has expressed confidence in Prime Minister Imran and assured their support in the National Assembly on no-trust motion.

Political pundits believe that Prime Minister Imran has turned tables on the opposition after accepting the demand of removal of Buzdar. Now, most likely the disgruntled group of the ruling party will support the prime minister on a no-trust motion against him. However, the situation will clear in a couple of days before the upcoming National Assembly session.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib also confirmed the development, saying, “All issues were settled after Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi met with Prime Minister Imran Khan” at his Bani Gala resident in Islamabad.

He said during the meeting, the PML-Q leadership expressed full confidence in PM Imran and announced its support to him on no-trust voting in the lower house.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar, he said, has submitted his resignation to the prime minister. Prime Minister Imran has decided in principle to nominate Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as Punjab CM, he added.

Earlier in the day, the much-anticipated session of the lower house of parliament to deliberate on the no-confidence motion was adjourned till March 31 after opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif tabled the motion followed by the counting procedure to determine the number of lawmakers in favour.

More than 155 lawmakers were in favour of tabling the motion against the premier.

The opposition, which has 162 members, filed the con-confidence motion on March 8. The motion, moved by 152 opposition members, said that Prime Minister Imran had lost the confidence of the house. The ruling coalition currently has the support of 179 members of the National Assembly.

PTI Senator Ejaz Chaudhry also said in a tweet that all matters have been settled between PML-Q and the ruling party after Speaker Punjab Assembly Pervez Elahi met PM Imran at his residence.

“PML-Q has expressed confidence in PM Imran’s leadership. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar submitted his resignation with the premier,” he added.

While terming the breakthrough a “first step towards success”, the senior ruling party leader confirmed that PM Imran has decided to nominate Elahi for the slot of Punjab CM.

In a video statement, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz said that “opposition’s game is over”.

“They [opposition] don’t even know what has hit them… we told them earlier that they were heading towards ‘political’ blind alley,” said the minister while expressing hope that their attempt to de-seat PM Imran through no-trust move will be defeated.

Meanwhile, PM’s aide on religious harmony Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi hinted at early elections. “Situation is improving… final word is early elections,” he wrote in Urdu on his official Twitter handle.

PTI was adamant about not making Elahi a CM in Punjab hence why Imran went with Buzdar. Now it seems like Elahi and his party were openly backing Nawaz as the deal was they'd let him be CM. Imran has instead offered Elahi the same deal and PMLQ will now side with PTI. Giving PTI crucial votes in the no confidence motion. Since you have no knowledge of our politics, Elahis party is very powerful in Punjab when it comes to politics. And winning Punjab means winning PMship.

Pervez Elahi was going to be the CM either way. Is it not better for IK to cut a deal with him to save his govt? This way the JKT group will be satisficed also, as their main demand was to remove Buzdar. Next step is to get back MQM, and cut some more deals with members of the opposition.

If you have followed him closely, he invokes religion and Khatme-Nubuwwat very often to strike a chord with the masses.

Indians start and end on our politics is always "army"

Army doesn't care if me or you are PM as long as we don't take pangas with them. Otherwise why have they sat and let Bhutto Zardari and Nawaz loot billions of dollars. Their only deal always is don't step on our toes when it comes to their budgets and £££££ otherwise loot and pillage the treasury all you want.

The entire bakwaas right now is because they're neutral despite the devastating future we will have under Noon or PPP. Shehbaz Sharif is a known boot licker. And PMLN has used the army to come to power numerous times before. Maryam is married to a army captain.

Since 2008 army has for the most part stayed out of politics. Every think tank worth ten cents in Pakistan has said since Musharraf army is aware how much backlash they'd face if they ever tried to run the government again. Its a common saying in military circles in Pakistan that they're cursed when they interfere and cursed when they don't, like right now.

On point #3 that video must have been before 2018, as PML Q has been in alliance with PTI since then. So IK was already allied with someone who he called a thief. The issue with making him CM was that they only have a small number of seats so its not really fair that they get the CM post. However the opposition had made PE that offer that he becomes CM, so IK had to match or see him leave.



And PE is not the only person in the past who IK has insulted who he is now allied with. He used to insult Sheikh Rasheed who is now one of his big supporters. That's just politics. Its not personal.

IK is not a young man anymore. Its too risky for him to just go in the opposition. I think he needs to cut deals to stay in power, however he should not forget what PML Q, and MQM, and the lotas did too him. Revenge should be taken in next election. No seat adjustment with PML Q and MQM. And unless the lota is absolutely needed to win a seat, he should kick them out. Especially the people on reserved seats.

Agree with you. it's all about principles. I would rather have him dissolve the assembly then offering them a position.

He can say whatever he wants, there is no way any civilian will be able to pick an ISI chief, its for public consumption.

ISI, by theory, should legally be under civilians. PPP tried to in 2008 but then had to change their decision under 24 hours. Its simply not possible in Pakistan, which is good, otherwise our country would have stopped existing decades ago.

PDM is now well and truly floored. They played their cards too early. This is a massive development on two fronts - PE will bring others to support him in Punjab and the undecided will turn their sails to benefit from the 180 degree change in the direction of the political winds. PTI defectors will also comeback with tails between their legs.

What a change in the situation so late in the match. PDM have no time now to react. IK is more of a politician than we all thought he was.

Agree, for the longer term of the country it's imperative imran stays in power and hopefully gets that magic Majority in the next Elections, only then you will see the real potential of PTI and imran and hopefully fulfil the real potential of Pakistan.
