What's new

Peshawar Zalmi [173/4] beat win-less Karachi Kings [164/6] by 9 runs in Match 11 of PSL 7

The fast and bouncy tracks of Australia will be interesting

He is decent where ball comes on nicely with good bounce. His performances in Australia and SA are acceptable.

Crucial 4 by Babar

Still a chance to win with 36 to get now in the last over

another 1 run babar, going really wife that one, his strike been going down since he got his 50

Babar will score few boundaries now and his fan will blame others.

30 to win of 7, good 6 by Babar

Game will go down to the wire

Babar’s strength has always been powerplay and his weakness has been outside power play. He has been so poor in the powerplay in the whole tournament.

Too little too late from Babar I'm afraid.

Babar is no chris Gayle that he can recover from 100 SR after PP. Timid batting has cost the team

Great innings by Babar. He should be proud that he has found his form

Lol at Babar, he shouldv done that previously rather than swinging blindly.. it amazes me why batsman don't use their head when they know it'll be a slower ball..

Not enough support for Babar but Umar and Irshad mixed it well to make it difficult to hit boundaries.

4/4 games lost, cant progress further, 1 game left, hope he plays all the youngstars in the last game

They didn't mixed, they bowled slower cutters, those balls are hittable if batsman used their head rather than trying to hit six..

They do swing but slower balls come at varying slow speeds so they end up missing it. If you seen the games everyone was swinging the bat but kept missing them.

I did watch the game, and that's why I'm saying batsman didn't use their head.. they just need to guided to offside there's big gap there..

And that's why Babar should be playing big shots much early because there is no guarantee the batsmen at the other end will succeed or even rotate the strike effectively towards the end of the innings.

I guess bowling or the toss are not the issue with KK

176 was an easy score to chase really

It was Sharjeel’s fault really.

True that Sharjeel failed today but Babar needs to change his game in T20.
Everytime he scores ~50s off some 40-45 balls and at the end scores few boundaries to make his score 52-55 balls 70 runs.
He changes gears after playing almost half overs of the inning.

At the end people look at score card and thinks Babar played well, played anchor inning but others failed. Well the others don't have luxury to play 10 overs and score 75 runs.
If another batsman play at same SR, team will end up scoring 150 in every game.

Sorry but he was contributing. He failed today and it has cost his side an easy match. Babar did what he usually does, you can’t really blame him

Shoaib Malik confirms what I have been screaming for over a week now

If you get Sharjeel early , you have won 60% of the match.

Babar needs to work on his power hitting and release shots. Quality teams and bowlers will find out how to tie him down

KK are too reliant on Sharjeel for power hitting.

Babar 90* off 63

Excellent

rally, before the last over his strike rate was 117%, last over he hit 3 fours and it went to 143% strike rate - that against hussain talat- whos bowling is bang on average if not blow average

Yes.

Babar and Rizwan do this all the time for a winning cause against the standard of teams Pakistan plays

Would you like him to play a safe innings like Babar, Rizwan, Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood and Imam ul Haq?

World class players like Babar and Rizwan should not be mentioned alongside a fat rubbish fixer.

Babar's shortcomings are getting exposed due to the team he is playing in. I hope Pak management and Babar himself are noting it so he can improve.

This is getting a bit ridiculous from KK. If you have Joe Clark as a specialist keeper then at least have some faith in him or give the gloves to Rohail. If you didn’t have faith in Rohail then you shouldn’t have selected him. Same goes with their emerging picks. They haven’t given a single game to Talha Ahsan. Mohammad Taha is neither batting nor bowling here. They are essentially playing with 9-10 players and you can’t win a game like that.
The owners need to sack this management and bring a bit more data driven and professional approach to this team that focuses on developing its own talent base rather than poaching other teams talent every season.

2020 champions Karachi Kings suffered their fourth successive defeat as 2017 winners Peshawar Zalmi held their nerves to win their second match by nine runs in the 11th fixture of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2022 at the National Stadium on Friday.

Chasing 174 for victory, Karachi Kings recovered from three to two to reach 77 for two in the 10th over before Zalmi pulled things back and conceded 87 runs in the last 10 overs (19 off the last over) to restrict Karachi Kings to 164 for six.

World’s No.1 ranked T20I batsman faced the first and the last ball of the innings and finished at 90 not out. His 63-ball innings included 12 fours and a six.

The stars of Zalmi’s bowling were young pace duo of Mohammad Umar and Salman Irshad, who conceded 46 runs between them from eight overs with the former capturing three wickets.

Zalmi’s victory means they have joined Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars on four points, while Quetta Gladiators are fifth on two points and Kings yet to get off the mark. The table is headed by defending champions Multan Sultans, who have won all their four matches.

Other performers

Put into bat, Zalmi were lifted by Shoaib Malik who struck five fours and two sixes in a 28-ball 52 not out. Opener Hazratullah Zazai scored a 27-ball 41 with five fours and two sixes.

For Karachi Kings, fast bowler Umaid Asif finished with three for 36.

In turn, Karachi Kings’ innings was off to a horrendous start when Sharjeel Khan and Sahibzada Farhan were back in the hut with the scoreboard reading three. Babar and Ian Cockbain added 74 runs for the third wicket, but Cockbain’s departure began the start of the end for the Kings.

Mohammad Nabi scored run-a-ball 10, Aamer Yamin scored a 15-ball 20 and Imad Wasim got a second-ball duck as Kings limped to 164 for six, including 19 runs in the final over of the match.

Interesting, after six straight wins for sides batting second, this was the fifth consecutive time the side batting first successfully defended the score.

Player of the match Shoaib Malik: “Success in T20 cricket is all about quickly assessing the conditions and playing your shots. I did exactly that and I am pleased I was able to make a good contribution. But we receive a good start from Hazartullah Zazai and Kamran Akmal, and that also allowed me to construct the innings.

“It was a strategic move that I bowl the first over to Sharjeel Khan as he is a dangerous batsman and capable of taking the match away very quickly. I am glad it worked.”

Scores in brief:

Peshawar Zalmi 173-4, 20 overs (Shoaib Malik 52 not out, Hazratullah Zazai 41, Ben Cutting 24, Kamran Akmal 21Umaid Asif 3-36)

Karachi Kings 164-6, 20 overs (Babar Azam 90 not out, Ian Cockbain 31, Mohammad Umar 3-22)

I am pretty sure Clarke is injured and yes I agree why would you have rohail in the squad if he isn't going to keep when your main keeper is injured clueless management.
