What's new

Peshawar Zalmi (177/2) reach PSL 6 final with dominant 8-wicket win over Islamabad United (174/9)

Bat hassan at 8 for Pak team and get rid of showbaaz all rounder faheem plz

I won’t call it depth. It’s just Hassan Ali really. The others just made up the numbers.

Yes but, with depth it can be anybody’s day or sometime’s nobody’s but it gives that extra chance. Faheem has played a good knock or so for Pak in recent times as well so any other day it can be him.

Also not to forget Wasim’s ability to bat is helping the partnership as well

Ex PZ boy hit them pretty bad today. From 110/7 to 172, what a recovery.

Pakistan should play 4 proper bowlers and Hasan as bowling allrounder in white ball cricket. Adds a lot of depth to the side.

First 15 overs were pretty boring for a semi final but the last 5 made up for more of it. I've seen Hassan Ali bat like this in tape ball cricket and he's played this exactly like a tape ball match. Full marks to him.

PSL 6 | Islamabad United vs Peshawar Zalmi | Eliminator 2 | Abu Dhabi | 22 June 21| Match Discussion

I don't think that I've ever seen a better recovery than this in any T20 match effected by the tailenders. Wow, just wow! Take a bow! Islamabad`s incredibly long, yet flashy, batting has given them a serious opportunity to here to secure one of the greatest comebacks ever seen in T20 cricket. Early wickets and we're in for some fun, I would say.

Hasan Ali possesses awesome hitting ability. Some clean strikes, and he was well supported by Wasim. I've no words to describe how well they've batted.

Hassan with some Adrenaline rush from his batting. :smith

Zazai the key here.

6 or 7 overs of him and it could be game up for IU.

PZ not enough singles at the moment.

Both batsmen looking for boundaries.

Zazai 20 from 20.

After 20 balls in the previous game, he was on 41.

IU mixing up the pace nicely.

PZ slogging wildly at the moment.

So, is Zazai actually that good or did KK just bowl rubbish the other night?

Poor work from KK’s think tank. Bowlers kept feeding in his zone and all his big shots except couple in Amir’s first over and edges were towards the leg side. Scored 50 against KK in both the matches he played against them.

Yes he blast the ball but, needs balls in his zone and technically not that great around off stump.

Lol! What was Iftikhar doing so far away from rope

Zazai is a hack and a lazy runner. Should work on his fitness and his off side game.

The momentum is beginning to shift here back into Zalmi's favour.

Totally agree with this post. Not sure what KK were trying yesterday

Unless IU can get 2-3 quick wickets here, its going to be game over for them

Akhlaq shadab ifti asif faheem talat
Islamabad should be happy they managed to qualify for playoffs with these absolute duds in their 11

Shadab getting smashed out the ground by a guy playing literally the first game of his career outside Australia

Islamabad need to break this partnership. Get Hassan on

Akhlaq’s catch drop/ chance of Zazai turned out to be a costly one.

IU is a pretty young team, so possibly crumbled under pressure of a knock out match.

I had no doubts in my mind that Peshawar would win. Any team that has a selfish captain, will never win a championship. Happy to see this

I still gave IU a bit of respect and selected Peshawar to have a narrow win. lol Have been getting margins wrong from day one.

Credit to IU for giving the youngsters a chance they should have their head held high

Giving too many chances. They would have been in final if not for that terrible bowling by Akif in MS game and less said about the captain the better.

Cricket gods will always make sure that you fail as a team if you don't play cricket the way it should be played.

They still would have lost its all about giving chances to the youngsters and they did

Multan Sultans vs Peshawar Zalmi in the final on Thursday.
The Zalmi have done it in style and win by 8 wickets

Punishing half-centuries by Hazratullah Zazai and Jonathan Wells carried Peshawar Zalmi to their fourth HBL Pakistan Super League final when they pipped Islamabad United by eight wickets in Eliminator 2 of the 2021 edition at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Tuesday evening. In Thursday’s final, which will start at 2000 UAE time (2100 PKT time), the 2017 champions will meet first-timers Multan Sultan.

Hazratullah, who came in one of the replacements for the Abu Dhabi-leg matches, belted his third half-century in fourth appearance and scored 66 from 44 balls with six fours and four sixes. Wells, who came out of room isolation on Sunday and held an extra training session before the match, ended up with a 43-ball 55 not out as the 2017, 2018 and 2019 finalists achieved the 175-run target in 16.5 overs for the loss of two wickets.

The two batsmen added 126 runs for the second wicket off 81 balls after they had joined hands following the departure of Kamran Akmal at the score of 15. With 34 runs needed off 33 balls when Hazratullah was bowled by Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Shoaib Malik (32 not out, 10b, 5x4s, 1x6) and Wells ensured there was no repeated of Monday’s late crisis as Zalmi romped to victory with 19 balls spare.

Hazratullah, who scored an unbeaten 62-ball 162 for Afghanistan against Ireland in a T20I in February 2019, reached his half-century from 39 balls with his third six, while Wells matched his partner stroke-by-stroke by reaching his half-century from 38 balls with his sixth boundary.

It was a forgettable evening for Islamabad United, who had topped the table with eight wins from 10 matches.

Defending a decent total, Hasan Ali started with two no-balls, his first of the tournament, to finish with one for 43 in 3.5 overs, while Shadab Khan went away for 55 runs from his four overs, including 21 runs in his third over and 18 in his final over. Wasim picked the wicket of Hazratullah but conceded 32 runs in his three overs.

Earlier, a blistering 61-run ninth wicket partnership off 24 balls between Hasan Ali and Wasim lifted Islamabad United from a precarious 110 for eight in the 16th over to a highly respectable 174 for nine in 20 overs.

Hasan once again display his potentials as a batsman who can effectively use the long handle by clobbering five fours and three sixes in a 16-ball 45 cameo. Wasim also shows signs of an all-rounder in the making by slapping two sixes in an 11-ball 17 not out.

Hasan and Wasim scored 22 runs from the 17th over, bowled by Umaid Asif, and 18 runs off the penultimate over, bowled by Wahab Riaz, to ruin the figures of the two fast bowlers, who finished with two wickets apiece conceding 44 and 35, respectively.

The final over of the innings yielded 16 runs as the late assault brought the smiles back in the dugout, which had looked gloomy and worried after the side that finished on the top of the leaderboard after the league matches, had slipped from 71 for two in the eighth over to 110 for eight in the 16th over.

United’s top-order batsmen among runs included, Colin Munro (44, 29b, 7x4s, 1x6), Brandon King (18) and Shadab (15).

Ah ok. Some of these Afghan bats are purblind sloggers. Very poor from KK if they couldn't figure out his weak zones.

Australian Jon Wells has starred on debut in the Pakistan Super League as his Peshawar Zalmi side reached the tournament decider despite being forced to field with just 10 players for almost two overs of Islamabad United's innings.

Wells earned a call-up last week to the PSL, which is being played in the UAE, after David Miller withdrew due to international commitments with South Africa.

And the Adelaide Strikers veteran wasted little time in growing accustomed to the conditions in Abu Dhabi, scoring an unbeaten 55 from 43 balls batting at No.3 as Peshawar chased down their victory target of 175 with 19 balls to spare.

But the match was somewhat overshadowed by a controversial moment in Islamabad's innings when Peshawar were denied a substitute fielder after veteran fast bowler Mohammad Irfan left the field due to injury.

Having appeared to cramp up late in the final over of his spell, Irfan chased a ball in the outfield in the following over and pulled up injured. He then walked over the boundary rope and lay on the turf, outside the playing arena, to receive treatment on his right calf. He appeared to be in obvious discomfort, screaming in pain as medical staff attended to him.

Substitute fielder Haider Ali came onto the field in place of Irfan before umpire Aleem Dar held a long discussion with Peshawar skipper Wahab Riaz, seemingly questioning the legitimacy of Irfan's injury.

The 39-year-old paceman had missed a game against Islamabad a week earlier, leading commentators to speculate that he had carried an injury into the match.

Despite the tall fast bowler receiving strapping on his calf and being helped into the change-rooms by medical staff, the officials told Ali to exit the playing arena, leaving Peshawar with just 10 players on the field.

"They don't believe him," former Zimbabwe international Pommie Mbangwa observed in commentary.

"So what they've said is he's bowled five deliveries with no trouble. And when he's finished (his spell), he's now saying 'I can't field, I'm injured'.

"It's like the boy who cried wolf."

As the match resumed, debate continued between overs with officials and players from both sides remonstrating on and off the field, including Peshawar coach Daren Sammy and Islamabad skipper Shadab Khan, who was batting at the time.

Having had just 10 players on the field for around two overs, Peshawar were finally granted a sub fielder in the 15th over after another long discussion between umpire Dar, Wahab and Peshawar veteran Shoaib Malik.

"The neutral doctor, apparently, has said that yes, he is injured," Bazid Khan noted in commentary. "So they believe him now."

Wells and his Peshawar side will now face the Multan Sultans in the final on Friday.
