What's new

Peshawar Zalmi (197/5) defeat Karachi Kings (173/8) by 24 runs in Match 17

Now Malik will struggle as usual if and when the Pacers are brought. req rate almost 12, where is the time to consolidate or take time ?

What was the point of sending Niazi at 4?

Malik would have done that

Malik still not looking to attack

Hate this guys approach

Maybe too early to say but Babars replacements have effectively knocked them out

Super fit 25 year old Shoaib Malik showing his strength and fitness by attempting the bat distance throw challenge

Malik is biggest match loser
how has he achieved the tag of legend.
he is the legend of Medicority

Someone tell me the difference between wade and Rizwan. 46 of 45 and 53 of 41.

This picture makes me so angry.

Karachi are a non-serious frenchise. Good for Babar that he moved away from such an unprofessional setup.

This is where Wasim Akram should be held to task by KK. He is there during drafts.

Wasim Akram doesn’t care - he is just there for the limelight and the easy money.

Wade, cutting, Tye, Haider. Whoever got these players needs to be sacked

Imad Wasim is Misbah of Karachi Kings. Will play a decent but not good enough knock when match is already over to save some face.

A well deserved win fir Zalmi. Karachi is Out. They played awful and wasted Amir’s efforts and do not deserve to move forward.

Imad should come at number 4. He can score a 100.

There is a difference scoring runs when the game is actually on and scoring them when its fun cricket.

Imad ( so far) has scored pressure free runs because the game is often lost when he comes.

Hang on! Imad is still there and swinging hard!

Why do all Peshawar bowlers go an a brain fade during death overs?.. if the gap between runs and balls is high..they make sure to ball as much extras and bowl crap to close the gap as much as possible and make it a tight match..even if the match was over

Afghan bowlers have really strengthened the PZ bowling unit.

They badly needed that.

Don't care who wins and loses but Imad needs to be welcomed back into the national sqaud....

A big decline for Babar in T20s in his prime too should stop opening or take a break he’s just dragging himself on now.

He was never a good t20 player. He played in UAE on 160 par score wickets where he could anchor and boost his average. When he has to go from ball one he can not do it. This is no knock on him he is a brilliant player with a beautiful technique but he likes to play in his comfort zone and so he will never be great in t20s

He will continue to excel in odis and tests where he can bat on his terms without pressure

Babar Azam, Peshawar Zalmi captain: We lost back to back wickets and that put us under pressure. The way Powell and Kohler-Cadmore played was excellent, Haseebullah also batted well in between. This pitch supports the batters, the batters executed well. Our bowlers also executed well. Every win gives us confidence and this was an important match to win, hopefully we will win the upcoming games too.

Rovman Powell, Player of the Match: It was a pretty good wicket. TKC and Haseebullah batted well to get us a platform from where I could launch. I thought everything was in my zone, it was important for me to bat the first 10 balls properly to get used to the surface. I've been in form so I was a little disappointed that I didn't get runs in my first few innings.

Imad Wasim, Karachi Kings captain: We didn't bowl well, credit to Powell and Haseebullah, they batted well. You have to bowl yorkers here, there wasn't much spin and we had to be more decisive about what we were going to bowl. It was a good day as Amir found his form back but we have three games left and it's going to be tough. The last over went for 18 and these are the things that cost you games. We thought 200 was a par score though. We'll just come back hard and try and execute. We'll play with pride and for Karachi, we're still in the tournament.

Peshawar Zalmi defeated Karachi Kings in what was the first match of the HBL Pakistan Super League 8 at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. That they would even win this contest seemed an improbable proposition after they were three down for two runs, but a brilliant fight back from the middle-order and a disciplined show with the ball secured them a win by 24 runs.

It was a heroic half-century by Haseebullah, the HBL PSL debutant, that instilled believe in the Peshawar Zalmi camp that they could make a comeback after Mohammad Amir had cleaned up the entire top-order in 2.2 overs. Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Rovman Powell used the platform set by that innings perfectly by propelling Peshawar Zalmi to 197 with solid fifties.

Haseebullah’s sparkling 50 off 29 was studded with four fours and three sixes – two off them hit off the same Imad Wasim over – and played a crucial role in helping Peshawar Zalmi recover as the wicketkeeper from Pishin stitched 82 runs for the third wicket with Kohler-Cadmore.

By the time Haseebullah was dismissed – in the 10th over off Tabraiz Shamsi – Peshawar Zalmi had 84 runs on the board. Powell then smashed 64 off 34 with the help of six fours and four sixes with Kohler-Cadmore, 56 not out off 45, continuing to play a supporting role. The overseas pair added 85 runs and Powell’s sparkling show earned him player of the match.

Karachi Kings put up a below-par show in the run chase. Matthew Wade scored 53 off 41 and remained in the middle till the 12th over but the opener failed to get support from the other end. Adam Rossington, playing his maiden HBL PSL match, scored 15 off eight and fell to Azmatullah Omarzai, who took three wickets for 28 runs, in the fourth over. From 40 for one, Karachi Kings had half of their batting lineup back in the pavilion for 95 when Wade was bowled by Mujeeb ur Rehman.

Imad fought back with 57 not out in 30 balls, hitting as many as 10 fours and a six, but by then it was all too late for Karachi Kings.

Aamir Jamal finished with three for 43 – following wickets of Aamer Yamin and Tabraiz Shamsi on consecutive balls. His figures were worsened by an Imad onslaught in the 18th over that saw him getting spanked for five fours.

With this win, Peshawar Zalmi have made it two in two over Karachi Kings this season after they edged out in a thriller by two runs earlier in the tournament.

Scores in brief:

Peshawar Zalmi 197-5, 20 overs (Rovman Powell 64, Tom Kohler-Cadmore 56, Haseebullah 50; Mohammad Amir 4-26)

Karachi Kings 173-8, 20 overs (Imad Wasim 57 not out, Matthew Wade 53; Azmatullah Omarzai 3-28, Aamir Jamal 3-43, Mujeeb ur Rehman 2-28)

Player of the match – Rovman Powell (Peshawar Zalmi)

Matthew Wade in presser:

“It would have been nice if I had finished the game, that’s our job as a top order player. As I said, the rate was crazy enough high, we needed 12 or 13 [runs per over]. I felt like if they gave me the ball up, I would hit areas I thought I could hit and was gonna take it down straight but missed it. That’s kind of the game, it’s T20 and it happens"

“Yeah it is disappointing that I couldn’t go on and pose a bigger score but we’ll get another opportunity in a few days, we have to bounce back, we have to win the next three games and win them well and give ourselves a chance for the finals"

“We are not playing our best but we’ve been there and there about as we’ve lost by minimal margins and our run rate is probably capable in the tournament at the moment"

“So, pretty much every game from here, we have to win, let’s how we’re looking at it anyway and if we can bank three, we’ll have the chance to play the finals"

Wasim Akram should have had the balls to atleast address one press conference

Let's be clear, if Ben Cutting doesn't get selected, we won't get the services of Erin Holland as a PSL presenter either.

Imad king of soft runs.

Spot on that’s all he’s done bar that fluke against Afghanistan in the World Cup. Always scoring runs when the match is pretty much over. People sing his songs for captaincy but the guy let a from 2 for 3 and not for the first time this tournament. Babar leaves Karachi and slaps them twice.

2/3 to 197/5 really is unforgivable. If it was under Babar's captaincy we all know what the discourse would be...
