Peshawar Zalmi 2018 Squad and Discussion Thread

On the auspicious occasion of Independence Day, the final of Zalmi Azadi Cup 2018 will be played on 14th August at Arbab Niaz Stadium. Toss will be at 2 P.M. Chairman, Javed Afridi, Head Coach, Muhammad Akram and Superstar bowler Hassan Ali will be present at the ceremony.

Peshawar Zalmi, through the Zalmi Foundation have set up a grand stage for the final to be held on 14th August at 2:00 P.M. Before the final, the semi final will take place between Nowshera Greens and Mardan Greens. The winner will play against Khyber Greens in the final. Chairman Javed Afridi, Head Coach Muhammad Akram, PCB ODI Player of the Year Hassan Ali, Sameen Gul and Muhammad Arif will be present at the final. The tournament was played in three regions of Peshawar, Abbottabad and FATA in which 52 teams participated. The entry for the crowd will be free and they will have the opportunity to catch a Haier Mobile.

Nowshera Zalmi Greens won the Zalmi Azadi Cup 2018. In the final, they defeated Khyber Zalmi Greens by 3 wickets. Interim Chief Minister, Dost Muhammad Khan along with Chairman Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi distributed the awards amongst the winners.

The Zalmi Azadi Cup 2018 ended today with Nowshera Zalmi Greens being crowned the champions. They won the match by 7 wickets. Khyber Zalmi greens were put to bat first and they scored 151 runs and were all out. Rehan Afridi scored 40 runs and was the top scorer. Umar Alam took 3 wickets. In reply, Nowshera Zalmi Greens chased the target for the loss of 3 wickets. Raza Gillani scored 40 runs for the winning side. For Khyber Zalmi Greens, Sameen Gul took 2 wickets. Interim Chief Minister, Dost Muhammad Khan, Chairman Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi and Head Coach Peshawar Zalmi, Muhammad Akram distributed the awards amongst the winners.

The interim Chief Minister, Dost Muhamad Khan, said that the Azadi Cup was a source of joy on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day. Peshawar Zalmi and Javed Afridi are working relentlessly for the promotion of cricket at the grass root level and their efforts are appreciated. Chairman, Javed Afridi said that the Zalmi Foundation will continue to promote sports for the youth. Through the Zalmi Azadi Cup, hundreds of cricketers got the chance to showcase their talent and have a proper platform to play. In the future, we will continue to bring such initiatives for the youth and produce good sportsmen. After the success of Zalmi Azadi Cup and Zalmi School League, we are now looking forward to our Zalmi Madrasa League and it will be beginning very shortly. Head Coach Peshawar Zalmi, Muhammad Akram said that the tournament produced some great talented players. He urged the cricketers to keep working hard like this.

Umar Alam was the man of the match for his three crucial wickets at the top. Before the final, Fakhar Zaman's batting in the semi-final was a source of enjoyment for the crowd as he smashed 86 in just 40 balls. A large crowd came to witness the final at Arbab Niaz Stadium and enjoyed their independence day with cricket. The cake of Javed Afridi's birthday was also cut at the final.

Chairman Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi said that we are setting an example and reaching new heights with this initiative of Peshawar Zalmi and Zalmi Foundation. He also further added that this is a gift to the people of Pakistan on the occasion of Independence Fever and an acknowledgement to the Pakistan Army for their efforts.

Zalmi Foundation and the United Nations Information Centre Pakistan signed a ‘Partnership Agreement’ to promote the Sustainable Development Goals

Islamabad, 16 August 2018: The Zalmi Foundation and the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan signed a ‘Partnership Agreement’ to work together towards the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ceremony was held at the United Nations Information Centre in Islamabad. The agreement was signed by the Chairman, Peshawar Zalmi & Zalmi Foundation, Javed Afridi and Director, a.i UNIC, Vlastimil Samek.

Mr Afridi said that the foundation has been working relentlessly for the past 3 years to promote sports and empowering the youth in Pakistan, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They have also been working towards promoting gender equality and women empowerment. After the partnership with UNIC, we hope to work even with more passion and dedication towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Pakistan, he added.

Mr Samek shared that cricket programmes provide unique opportunities for the Youth to be leaders being team captains, team managers, coaches as well as cricket officials. In these roles they all become representatives of their communities and are thus required to show much greater level of responsibility. “I hope that this Partnership will help to further deepen the understanding about the SDGs among the all strata of people, particularly the Youth of Pakistan.” he said.

Peshawar Zalmi Chairman, Javed Afridi met the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, in Islamabad. Javed Afridi congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister and wished him best of luck for his future endeavors. In the meeting, both of them discussed ways to promote sports and empower the youth through such healthy activities. Chairman, Peshawar Zalmi, Mr. Javed Afridi said that “he fully supports the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and hope that the country will reach great new heights under his leadership. Pakistan's first ever Madrasa League starting from tomorrow in Peshawar. We will find great new talent and bring it to the cricket areana, says Peshawar Zalmi's & England's Spin Bowling Consultant, Saqlain Mushtaq

The famous Pakistani spin bowling sensation and current spin bowling consultant of Peshawar Zalmi and England Cricket Team, gave his wholehearted congratulations to Zalmi Foundation and chairman Javed Afridi for the starting of the Zalmi Madrasa League from tomorrow. He believes that the tournament will be fruitful for the Madrasa Students and more talent will be seen coming into the cricket arena.

Zalmi Madrasa League, which is an initiative of Peshawar Zalmi through the Zalmi Foundation will take place from 28th-31st August in Peshawar. After executing the first ever school league and global league, the number brand of PSL in terms of brand value, Peshawar Zalmi, brings you the first ever cricket Madrasa League, the “Zalmi Madrasa League”, which will take place from 28th-31st August 2018 in Peshawar.
Zalmi Madrasa League is joint venture of Peshawar Zalmi, Zalmi Foundation and the World Council of Religions. The matches will take place from 28th-31st August 2018 in Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar. Another important entity which is making this event possible is the office of the Directorate General of Sports of KP. Their support in accommodation, transportation and implementation of the event is appreciated. The first match will be played between Al Haq Smashers and AlMaqasid Fighters in Arbab Niaz Stadium on 28th August 2018. The semi-finals and final of the event will take place on 31st August 2018 at Arbab Niaz Stadium.

Chairman Javed Afridi has once again proved that Peshawar Zalmi is not just a cricket franchise but it is an entity that aims to promote sports in KP. Not only this, but the Zalmi Foundation has been involved in many projects to empower the youth and women. Our next objective is to bring in new ways to promote interfaith harmony. Zalmi Madrasa League is the first step in bringing this objective to life. Javed Afridi said that “Through sports, the message of love, peace and prosperity can be spread throughout the world. Zalmi Madrasa League will not just only provide the youth with a proper cricket platform but will also allow the exchange of ideas and thoughts among the different Madrasa students and promote healthy dialogues. Students belonging to different school of thought, Madrasas, will participate in the Zalmi Madrasa League.
 
Zalmi Madrasa League comes to an end with Al Nujoom Risers becoming the Champions, Chairman Javed Afridi, Head Coach Mohammad Akram and Younis Khan were present to witness the talent of the Madrasa Students.

Peshawar: The Zalmi Madrasa League Final took place at Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar between Al Nujoom Risers and Al Wahda Hitters. Both of these teams were favorites of the tournament and seeing them both in the final was not a surprise. Both of these teams defeated their rivals in the semi-finals quite comprehensively and made their way into the final. Chairman Javed Afridi, Head Coach Mohammad Akram and Cricket Legend Younis Khan were present to witness the talented madrassa students compete with each other. Mr. Javed Afridi said that “this is just the stepping stone for Peshawar Zalmi. We aim to take this initiative to other parts of Pakistan including Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh. He also gave good news to the students by stating that “Peshawar Zalmi will be making pitches for them and also providing them with cricket equipment. Madrasa students deserve an equal opportunity to enter into the sports arena and we will ensure this.”

Head Coach, Mohammad Akram, congratulated the madrasa students and the winning team for playing exceptional cricket throughout the tournament. He further added that “there is no doubt about the talent that these Madrasa Students possess. He believes that if given the proper opportunity, they too can represent Pakistan at the National level. We will facilitate these students in anyway we can. He appreciated the efforts of Chairman Javed Afridi and also thanked Younis Khan for coming all the way from Karachi for the ceremony.
Younis Khan was greeted cheerfully by the crowd. The players were super excited to meet the T20 World Cup winning captain and the leading run scorer for Pakistan. Younis Khan gave the awards to the man of the match and the match officials. He was super pleased with the efforts of Peshawar Zalmi and said that “these initiatives need to happen more frequently. As sports is a platform that can bring everyone together and also promote harmony along with it. He said that “Zalmi Madrasa League is an initiative that have set an example for others. Not only has it provided the madrasa students a cricket platform but has also promoted a positive image of Pakistan.”

The final was a thrilling encounter between the two sides. Al Wahda Hitters chose to bat first and set up a gigantic total of 104 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Adil Nawaz scored 42 runs with Jalil scoring 20 runs. Haris and Luqman both picked up 1 wicket each. In reply, the Al Nujoom Risers lost early wickets but came back in the game with a sensational knock of 41 by Ayyaz who was unbeaten. Umar scored 28 runs to help them get closer to the target. The climax was when Al Nujoom Risers needed 40 runs of the last 2 overs. With Al Haq Smashers being the favorite at that point, Ayyaz smashed 2 sixes and 2 fours in the second last over to change the fate of the game. After hitting a six of the second last ball of the innings, he brought the trophy home by taking a single of the last ball. Al Nujoom Risers with a total of 105/4, won the final by 6 wickets. Taimoor took 2 wickets for 22 runs and Atiq bagged in 1 wicket for 13 runs.

Zalmi Madrasa League was attended by Federal Minister of Religious Affairs, Mr. Noor-ul- Haq Qadri, Zia Ullah Bangash, Advisor to Chief Minister KP, Bishop of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Zia, DG Islamic International Research Institute and many other renowned personalities. Zalmi Madrasa League will be taken a step forward and also introduced in the provinces of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan so that Madrasa Students of Pakistan can have this same opportunity. They will be provided with cricket pitches and equipment so that they too can play their sport with the utmost passion. Zalmi souvenirs, kits and shirts were distributed among the players.

This is for the first time, the Zalmi team has arrived in London. Led by Darren Sammy, the team won the second edition of Pakistan Super League in 2017 and has been on the hunt for new talent across the country.


Peshawar Zalmi has also tried to help the victims of Army Public School, Peshawar as a fully-funded trip of 152 children to Dubai was arranged by the team so they could take part in the opening ceremony of Pakistan Super League season 1.

The franchise is also exploring other areas of sports besides Cricket and is nurturing the young talent so they can fulfill their dreams and a positive image of the country can be projected. The London tour is a testament to the same intention.

Fans from all over the world and Pakistani’s visiting London felt super proud to see their own team roaming around the streets of London. Peshawar Zalmi Chairman and Haier CEO, Mr. Javed Afridi met Prime Minister Imran Khan. In the meeting, Shah Faisal, Faisal Khan, and Shah Khalid were also alongside Mr. Javed Afridi. The Prime Minister was briefed about the Haier Economic Zone and also about China's role in the economic growth of Pakistan.

The Prime Minister was told about the benefits of the Pak-China projects on-going in Pakistan at the moment and how it has brought the latest technology to Pakistan's Industry and also creating job opportunities for the people of Pakistan.
In the meeting, the relationship between China and Pakistan with respect to cricket were also discussed. Chairman Peshawar Zalmi, Mr. Javed Afridi stated that "During PSL 3, two Chinese cricketers were throughout with Peshawar Zalmi."In the future, Peshawar Zalmi will also assist in the promotion of cricket in China. In order to take this mission forward, Peshawar Zalmi will soon sign a MoU with the Chinese Government and Cricket Association and work diligently to promote cricket in China.
