Phillip Schofield has credited his daughters with “saving his life” amid the fallout surrounding his “unwise” but “not illegal” affair with a younger colleague on This Morning.

The 61-year-old gave an emotional interview to the BBC on Friday 2 June, where he described the impact of the “constant” and “relentless” onslaught from the media since he admitted to having an affair with a younger male colleague on the ITV show.

“This is how Caroline Flack felt,” he said, referring to the former Love Island host who took her own life in 2020.

In the interview, Schofield denied accusations that he “groomed” his younger colleague, whom he met during a school visit when the boy in question was 15. Schofield denied that anything sexual took place until the ITV employee was around 20 years old. You can find the five biggest revelations from the interview here.

This Morning presenter Alison Hammond broke down during the latest episode of the daytime show, as she discussed Schofield’s interview with her colleague Dermot O’Leary.

Meanwhile, former Good MorningBritain co-host Piers Morgan has tweeted that it is time to stop the “relentless persecution” of Schofield.

Phillip Schofield can "bounce back" in his career following the scandal over his affair with a younger male colleague, a communications expert has told Sky News.

Kevin Craig also said that Schofield could have avoided his current situation if he had been "honest earlier on" about the relationship.

The 61-year-old presenter resigned from ITV last week and was dropped by his talent agency YMU after admitting to an "unwise but not illegal" affair with the man who he worked with on This Morning.

Schofield's relationship took place while the television star was still married to wife Stephanie Lowe and before he came out publicly as gay. He had denied having a relationship with a colleague when questioned by ITV about rumours.

Speaking in his first interview since quitting the daytime show, the presenter said his "career is over" and that he has had suicidal thoughts following the scandal - but insisted he did not groom the young man in question.

The country is on it’s knees and all we have been seeing in the media is Schofield. Priorities.

This is exactly the point. Why has the media circus been so heavily focussed on this man, to the point where he looks incredibly fragile and vulnerable? There is much more important stuff we should be focussing on than a witch hunt against a man who told a lie but otherwise didn’t commit a crime. I mean what is being achieved, really, by hounding this man instead of focussing on real news? I really do hope he doesn’t do anything silly due to the completely disproportionate response by the media.

No sympathy for him what so ever, he only apologised because he got caught and the story was going to break.

He lied to his wife of 30 years about his sexuality.

He lied to his family about the affair.

He lied to ITV in 2019 when ITV investigated the rumours of him having an affair with a young man.

He lied about his brother (who was convicted of child sexual abuse) by claiming he did not know anything despite the police questioning Phillip Schofield.

He has admitted the young man was 15 when Phillip first met him - a child - which is why Phillip Schofield is being accused of grooming a child, which is why his agency have dropped him, his sponsors have dropped him, and he is no longer the ambassador of the Prince's trust foundation.

There is no reason to believe him, and yes this story must be told because the entertainment industry is full of sick whackos and must be exposed!

Phillip in true fashion is giving interviews, such as the BBC, because he is seeking sympathy.

Remember, no one with a clean conciousness would ever say "It was unwise, but not illegal"

There is more to this story and I hope any convicted child predator is exposed, humiliated, and taken to the rafters.

Anyone who thinks this is a non story but the likes of Tate should be the story needs their head examined.

PS: Caroline Flack took her own life because she was going to be charged and tried for beating her boyfriend while he was asleep! Nothing to do with the media.

No sympathy - their own doing.

It seems to be Dan Wooton and Eamon Holmes with an axe to grind. I think Dan works for the DM and GB news and they keep pumping out interviews as if it is a presidential level scandal.

I think he should have been criticised for lying to his wife for 30 years - instead he was made a hero in the media for that!

In this day and age I don't think anyone cares about Schofield's sexual preferences, it's more the deceit of presenting a different image for so long in public. There are plenty of very successful gay icons on British TV, Graham Norton is one who comes to mind, but they are upfront about it. Then there's this stuff about the 15 year old boy he was grooming. The whole thing is just weird.

The only saving grace could be that when he first came on the scene, people were less accommodating of homosexuality, in the last couple of decades there's been a big shift. But still he hid this stuff from his own family for so long.

He met him as child, kept in contact, got him a job on his show, befriended him and groomed him.

Its really poor much of MSM feeling sorry for him. He himself is using mental health excuse now, he may kill himself etc to gain sympathy.

Its also interesting a lot of people mainly middle aged white women are very supportive. The same middle aged white women who didnt care Shamima Begum was groomed by Canadian intel, sent to ISIS to be forced into marriage.

There is a huge child abuse issue within the western entertainment industry. Its sickening.

Phillip Schofield declined to take part in review of ITV because of 'risk to health'

Many junior employees at ITV "remain convinced that to speak out will have a detrimental impact on their careers", says Jane Mulcahy KC who led the review.

Phillip Schofield "reluctantly declined" to participate in an external review following his departure from ITV because of the "risk to his health".

The presenter quit This Morning - which he had hosted for more than 20 years - after admitting to an "unwise but not legal relationship" with a younger male colleague, who also refused to participate in the review.

Phillip Schofield "reluctantly declined" to participate in an external review following his departure from ITV because of the "risk to his health".

Schofield admitted lying about the affair and was dropped by his talent agency, YMU.

Of 48 people interviewed by Jane Mulcahy KC, who led the review, only one reported any knowledge of the affair - a former junior member of staff, the barrister said.

They did not report their knowledge at the time, Ms Mulcahy added, and "nor did others report suspicions from much earlier in 2017".

Many junior employees "remain convinced that to speak out will have a detrimental impact on their careers", Ms Mulcahy said.
That is despite her having "no doubt" that senior ITV management are "absolutely wedded to the importance of an open culture".

However, that culture is "not filtering down to junior employees", Ms Mulcahy said.
In future, she is recommending that ITV set out clear guidelines to ensure good behaviour "even by those who are household names".

ITV's management "made considerable efforts to determine the truth" about the affair, the review found.
But in the "face of the denials of the individuals involved, ITV was unable to uncover the relevant evidence", it added.
