Little OTT to crown Kohli as King etc?

Sadly ICC licks to BCCI, just like how our ex players licked India until they got the boot from IPL.

He is called King Kohli by many in cricket world.

He is also by far the most revered cricketer in the world by far.

Nothing OTT about it. India is also like 90% of cricket anyway.

The most popular cricketer on the planet adored by one and all. Of course King KOHLI.

Everyone is sucking up to india not just icc. Mark nicholas commentating on todays game talked about nothing else other than how great dhoni is, how great bumra is, how great kohli is etc.
He forget SA were even playing.
He was sucking up more than hoover, dyson and vax combined!

Its BBC sport as well. They are so far up India's rear end its incredible. From quizzes, to articles to podcasts. I'd say the same thing if it was any team btw.

Not really surprising. The coverage so far has been atrocious as well.. trying to shove India, Kohli, IPL etc etc a 1000 times every match.. even when India isn't involved in the match.

Alright ICC we get it, BCCI stuffs your coffers. Still, the obsession with a single team in a 10 team world cup is getting to nauseating levels now. How about showcasing a few players from some other teams as well? Geez.

India is like a pretty gal. Everyone needs her attention :D

They need to please the ones who feed them. Would be nice if they put on that crown on cricketers from all countries.

The ICC is after money and Kohli is a cash cow. Literally. So this makes sense.

Just need apna Sher, Sohail Khan to chime in and reply to that tweet with "Ho ga apna ghar ka Kohli". Would be hilarious if someone like Wahab did it for this WC to spice up the pre-game mind games in what is already expected to be a red hot encounter. :rahat1

I think people will do well to understand ICC point of view. There may be pictures of other teams also.

Please stick to the question that the thread is asking. Do not talk about politics and cut out the personal comments.

Wahab is hot and cold. Doesn't have THAT calibre to pull it off.

ICC can suck upto India all they want and mould every rule to benefit them, the reality is they haven't won an ICC tournament since their fluke of fluke wins in the 2013 Champion's Trophy. That was nearly 7 years ago :afridi

ICC was never impartial to start with, one of the most unprofessional sporting bodies around the globe.

Doesn't that mean we are sporty enough to support them financially but not taking any privilege with the games. You should be thankful :faf

Well, he is called king Kholi, and it is fitting to his status in cricket these days.

After all, he is the best ODI batsman of all time.

Also India controls cricket pretty much, it should be obvious by now, biggest cricketing nation where most of the money is, of course ICC will pander to them.

It's a combination of the above.

Does it bother me? No. Kohli deserves all the merits he get. Averaging 60 in this era is an incredible feat.

Tryn to copy nba and peg off of the GoT hype. Kohli is a good guy so I can see him becoming the face of world cricket, as the title king implies just that. However, if it was sachin then I would say hell no.

What's wrong with it, he is the KING.
If you want to watch cricket matches then you have to submit before the king.
Adapt or perish.

Lol do you want us to win every second year.
:yk.
Not winning an icc trophy for 6 years isn't a big thing, i can make a similar case for australia of before 2015. Lol.

When rules are being bent to make you win and still you come up short in four consecutive ICC tournaments then you should hang your head in shame.

Australia were in a rebuilding phase after their all time great team came to an end.
India during these years were playing their all time great team!

Rules bent? Plz explain in detail or dont mention at all, we dont discuss fairytales.

Btw still 2 worldcupssssss, 2:asad1

No amount of little trophies will ever equal wc trophy

And besides we support our team for the cometition it provides, if they win "sone pe suhaga",if they dont we still cheer for them if they compete which they do in all icc events by qualifying for SF or Final atleast
. If ur happy to get kicked from groups stages and winning a trophy once in bluemoon then its ok.

No team or person that competes everytime is ever a loser ,but hey thats just me.

Wahab was the ICC facebook page cover photo after our match. At least in this case it is not a case of partiality. Kohli is arguably the biggest name in cricket right now along with being the best batsman in modern cricket. Of course he is going to get the star treatment.

It's marketing. Kohli is the world's leading batsman whose every innings people will be watching.

India is like a pretty gal. Everyone needs her attention :D

India is more like Donald Trump, loud and irritating in their insecurity. No one particularly like them but due to position of power they need to be indulged and made to feel important. It's the only way to ensure favour and funding. England and ICC is behaving the way Theresa May and other politicians act around Trump...

No it’s like the ugly billionaire.

Everyone wants them for the money but couldn’t care more beyond that

Aww!! Dil pe mat lo bhai, I can understand how desperately you want your players to be revered and celebrated like this, too bad they neither have talent nor star quality.

Lol dil pe mat lo.

You seem pretty hurt by my comments :))

It’s fine man

He is known as King Kohli so I don't see anything wrong with that picture. If I am not wrong Waseem Akram is still known as "Sultan of Swing" and I believe you guys have no issues with that?

Many peoples are happy bcz after 1000 years of slavery they find their own king (though courtesy of ICC).

Steve Smith not Kohli is the most valuable player in world cricket right now. A true fighter!

You're entitled to your opinion. At the end of the day, Kohli is ranked #1 in tests and ODIs. We don't even know how Smith will do now that he is back from his ban (and he couldn't hold a candle to Kohli in ODIs even before his ban).

Yup, Imam is right up there with him...

The only true King of ODI and in batsmanship in general is King Viv...no one comes close, especially those batting on modern day pancakes especially the ones in Asia and against pop gun attacks...

Who is this guy?? What's he got to do with cricket?

Virat is no.1 in the world without a shadow of doubt I really like him only Indian player I have liked. But this is bit OTT.

Yes ICC and all after money but there is more to it than that.

Pictures as shared by OP demonstrate the colonial mindset that lives on how one must be dressed and how one must behave / personify.

I hope Indians can see through this..nothing to be proud of.

Couldn’t hold a candle is stretching it but yea Kohli was on a higher level for sure

Indians need constant reminders they belong because they don't have much self confidence.

It's astonishingly true, particularly because they actually have a very good team.

Not sure what causes this infliction.

Imagine ICC doing something is India needing reminders. I don't about India's infliction but there seems to be a lot of burning from certain people when these things happen. It's ok guys

He is also a slave of BCCICC. The support for India is only for money.
Dil se he supports Pakistan.

Roger federer did that last WC and then few weeks later said I only did it cuz of Nike money and contract

None of them are obliged to be nice to India though. The BCCI doesn’t decide how much of its money goes to the ICC. India has good relations with all member nations except Pakistan. And Virat Kohli is the face of world cricket. There’s no one like him. It’s not just about the money then. People respect us for what we are and where we are in world cricket.

Both of you haven’t been to India I think. India is magic :). So you don’t understand the kind of respect India garners in the international arena as a country.

As an Indian fan are you proud of how they have presented Kohli? Seems to me more like promoting colonialism then anything else

Is that the same Smith guy who got banned for 1 year for cheating? I'd keep my less valuable but honest Kohli.

2007 WT20 - won
2011 WC - won (while some cry about 1992 all the time)
2013 CT - won

Do you really think / believe that this picture is honoring kohli or indians?

If yes pls have a closer look... He has been dressed up similar to people who made subcontinent their slave. And do you notice the crown... It has own story which i m sure u are aware of

Keep defending BCCI or india i have no issue with that.... But pls do see the obvious irony in this picture.

Currently very little is known about that picture. Only thing we know if that ICC twitter handle posted it.
Who came up with the idea? Who all were consulted before creating that picture? To be honest, it seems like a photoshopped picture. I can't imagine Kohli or BCCI agreeing to that idea.

Possible. The irony is the blind fans going at lengths to defend this. Fact is looks like colonialism being induced. Can't defend or stand for that.

I get your point bro. But I see it differently. Doesn’t it mean they have respect for us? They wouldn’t have done it if they thought we’re inferior to them in some way. What I see in the image is acknowledgement and respect; not memories of colonialism.

A single tweet by ICC has managed to trigger the people of an entire nation

Its called a discussion. Possibly in other cultures, it doesnt happen but we are happy to listen to all points of views.

Do you have one?

A single tweet by ICC has managed to trigger the people of an entire nation

A single tweet can do lot more than you can even imagine. However in this case only a handful of people knows about it, not sure from where you got figures of entire nation.

BTW, a few laughs shared by the king with Pak players triggered a number of people across the border.

Possible. The irony is the blind fans going at lengths to defend this. Fact is looks like colonialism being induced. Can't defend or stand for that.

My point is that India as a nation or BCCI as a cricket board is being criticized for something that may not even have their official stamp on it.
I don't even think ICC as an institution is approving all tweets posted by "ICC" handle. It just seems to be operated by a single person who has a lot of time at hands.

Doesn't matter whether you win all the games or some of them on the way to final and then win the final.
Technically it doesn't. A trophy win is a trophy win irrespective of how many games you have lost in between. My point was that you can't term a win as fluke if you win all its games.
