The three time champions with the sheru mascot team have unveiled their team of 2026 with a eye on PSL 11 trophy

Thought they had a great draft. Got Sameer too while rest of the teams were sleeping. IU batting looks stacked as usual but they seem kinda meh on their bowling and will have to rely on their mix of allrounders. It's worked for them in the past. I think they could use a decent opening fast bowler but overall should be a pretty good team.
 
Gous, Gleeson, Irshad, Dipendra are some weird weird selections. Even having Conway to be their direct signee seemed left field.
 
Their bowling lineup looks ordinary... Looks like they are putting all the weight on their batters to win them the trophy...

So what?

Shamar joseph, imad wasim and haider ali are part of the squad. And their antics will have an effect here.

Also, rumors are already being spread that IU has released Shamar Joseph. The guy has been accused of raping 11 women. This isnt something that can be brushed under the carpet.

Its poor from Islamabad United to be going after such players.

Hopefully the rumours of Shamar being released are true, and haider ali can also be released aswell

I think they have a decent squad but not as strong as they had in some of the previous seasons.

Shamar Joseph definitely has some very troubling allegations around him, but Haider Ali has been cleared by the authorities in UK.

Don't see why Imad Wasim is clubbed in this category.

Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani for IPL 2026. Muzarabani has reportedly given up his PSL contract to take up the opportunity in the IPL. The Zimbabwean had gone unsold at the PSL auction last month but became a direct signing by Islamabad United as a replacement player for West Indies' Shamar Joseph.

Conway has to open. He's not a high strike-rate player and if you want to get the most out of him you need him opening the innings and potentially getting a big score. Two inexperienced, young players in the opening slot doesn't work for me. If the opening partnership doesn't work it can have a hugely negative impact on the entire season. I'd be more happy with Sameer Minhas opening with Conway, or Minhas batting at 3 and Gous opening with Conway.

Heavy Kiwi influence in coaching staff and overseas picks. Mike Hesson has left his mark on this team.

Pace attack could have been better. Don't understand why they let Mohammad Wasim Jr. go. But other than that, solid side.
 
Apart from Sameer, this time IU seems weak. Having Conway there also goes against the philosophy of explosive starts.

I agree, this is probably the weakest squad for IU in the PSL when you compare it with their squads of the last few years.
 
Losing Bryant is a big blow to them, the batting looks pretty mediocre, Devon Conway will be important for them, will need to hold up one side for prolonged periods I feel to accommodate their hitters although if this is indeed how it pans out and it becomes somewhat successful this will be deemed as a IU masterclass when the same crew and its followers previously criticised this thought process.

Looking at that line up, I just cant see it going any other way

The other players like Shadab Conway Chapman Imad Faheem etc are all weak how? They are experienced domestic t20 players who can help them qualify for play offs.
 
Imad is a semi retired player. Shadab and Fahim may do well because domestic leagues is their ceiling. Conway is good, but his batting goes against IU mould unless he bats in the middle order.
Chapman is a good pick though

The things we know how to do should be applied in the game.

Sameer and Conway provided a good start in the powerplay.

Credit should be given to Sameer Minhas for the way he batted.

Everyone knew that Sameer’s talent was evident at the Under-19 level.

I did not play as well as Sameer Minhas played.

I was giving Sameer the message that he had to play a long innings.

I would handle the run rate; when he was in difficulty, I would hit a boundary, and when I was in difficulty, he would hit one.

When going into a tournament, you perform wherever the team needs it.

In T20, good days come very rarely; I try to take full advantage when I have a good day.

Conway is trash in this format. He was finished two years ago when he got badly exposed in the T20 World Cup, but somehow he continues to occupy a place in NZ's T20 squad and keeps getting franchise T20 deals. If anyone does even a little bit of research into his numbers they will find out he is in the Babar Azam/Kane Williamson league when it comes to scoring rate and conversion.
 
Conway is a big liability at the top of the order. IU needed a Matthew Short-like player in that position who can bat at a healthy strike-rate and get substantial scores consistently, but unfortunately he took a deal with CSK.

If Conway's form does not improve then IU should consider bringing Adries Gous back in the opening slot, promoting Chapman to 3 and adding Dipendra Singh Airee to the middle-order. Problem is Gous himself hasn't been in form since the World Cup either. But when he's in-form, he's a destructive player. Conway, even on his best day can't strike above 140.

if shadab keep promoting himself to n.4 batsman, they will lose often, thrs no way he should have came out befre mark chapman, once in a blue moon score wont happen again

he will cost them - if he keeps doing this - every yr he does this
 
There is nothing wrong with shadab batting at no.4 since this is a domestic tournament

Conway has gears to his game but doesn't use them when he is opening especially in t20s. When he was batting at no 4 for NZ, he was doing very well in the format. Was striking at over 140 i think.

He doesn't have the power game to bat at 4. He is one of those players that take time to get going and he can only be effective if he bats long and catches up with the scoring rate later on once he's set. Opening the batting is the only way he can do that.

I haven't seen him bat in a while but earlier in his international cricket, he was doing pretty well at no.4

Yeah it’s disrespecting a proper middle order batter who is built to win you the tournament as opposed to the showoff (Shadab) who devalues the standard by suggesting it’s crap if he’s scoring runs.

This reminds of the time when there were some legends here who would argue Travis Head would happily come after Babar and Rizwan in T20 if they opened.
