Australia spinner fined 15 per cent of his match fee for a breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test against South Africa in Durban.

Australia spinner Nathan Lyon has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the fourth day of the first Test against South Africa in Durban.

Lyon was found to have breached Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game.”

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of the off-spinner, for whom it was the first offence since the introduction of the revised Code in September 2016.

The incident occurred in the 12th over of South Africa’s innings on Sunday, when following the run out-dismissal of AB de Villiers, Lyon dropped the ball hitting de Villiers on the chest as he lay on the ground after diving in an attempt to make it to the crease at the bowler’s end.

Lyon admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Sundaram Ravi, third umpire Chris Gaffaney and fourth umpire Allahudiean Palekar.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

this really irks me for some reason

It is really like kicking some one when they are down, really poor from Lyon , he is a little man.

Poor stuff from Australia and Lyon. Not sure how ABD reacted to this, Imagine Lyon doing this to King Kohli :)

These Australian cricketers really bring the worst out of them selves in some of these test matches.

This is really childish, these are supposed to be grown men playing cricket?

I hope SA come back strongly and win the rest of the matches in a one-sided affair.

Australia are reclaiming their throne as the heels in world cricket it looks like. Seems like this win meant a lot to them after SAF humiliated them at their own grounds last tour.

AB should hit the ball hard right back towards him when he faces him next.

Aussies have always acted childish when in the field of play, they need to grow up.

Shamsi sledged Kohli and then had to hear back in every match.

Dropping ball on Kohli would have meant hearing non-stop chirping from Kohli and Co.. Anyway, Indians and Aus playing together always bring the worst in each other. Two most vocal sides who sledge heavily.

Well, I dont think Lyon would have seen it while throwing the ball. Afterall, when you get such a big wicket in such scenario, you know the match is almost done there itself and hence get busy in celebrating.

However, Lyon admitted his mistake and apologized AB for that. So, dont reay think it was some kind of poor or unprofessional stuff from Lyon.

Childish stuff from the Aussies and one of the reasons why I don't rate them as sportsmen.

When Markram and De Kock were doing well, the Aussies were trying every underhand trick in the book to unsettle them.

I think AB will finally hit a hundred in the next match. Guaranteed! Tbh, his conversion rate has become pretty mediocre.

They always apologize.

LOL India and sledging?

Kohli & co. won't sledge unless opponents stir up.

Don't like it?

Turn up and perform better so Australia feels the heat.

Otherwise, the Aussies will continue to press forward with their "mental disintegration" tactics.

This series has just started and the controversies are amazing. Australia needs to stop the childish acts. They don't have to be confrontational to show themselves as aggressive. This is really poor by Lyon.

AB is a nice guy. There is no justification for this.

Lyon recently left his wife and kids for a new girl. Kohli and Co would definitely make his life hell using that.

South African's are not so innocent either. I still remember how these Aussie wannabe's behave with subcontinental teams in their own conditions.

Apart from Rabada , i don't think the current SA players are ill behaved.

This would be called racism and what not if it was done to a non-white player.

Also best teams AUS and IND, both won't give inch to opposition !

Sledging is not I'll behaving. Expletives aimed at an opponent directly is and that too after not being provoked.

Every one does brother... Some get caught and some not in stump microphone... Except few Dravid, Amla, Inji, Misbha and few other gentlemen !

Well it was worse before Ganguly's days. The tradition is still strong though - Ponting, McGrath, Johnson, Warner, Starc, even Lyon...all made from the same cloth. The moment they start playing some decent cricket, such behaviour comes out.

When are the Ozzies coming to UAE next? Someone needs to show them their place once again.

UAE or even SL (3-0 whitewash last time :murali)!

How is AB doing, has he recovered and will he be able to play cricket again.

Lol India doesnt sledge

Even Kohli doesnt. He responds if someone sledges. Yes he does his monkey impersonations with the jumping around at opponents' faces when his side gets a wicket but normally doesnt initiate verbal sledging

Maybe de Villiers should stop taking non existent singles, he'll save himself all the humiliation in the world.
Who knows, maybe he'll thank Lyon one day from saving him from himself.

Australia are here to play hard cricket. Not this lip service nonsense about a non existent "gentleman's" game. If players are too mentally weak, the Aussies will let them know about it.

Hahahaha. Hopefully that happens soon.

They have improved their spin playing abilities this time. They will try to sledge but most of our players don't understand English anyways. Or they can say "no English" like FZ in the CT SF.

Naah! I dont think he would ever be able to recover from the hammering given by Lyon and Warner. He would most likely announce his retirement before friday and then return back to test cricket when Australia will be leaving SA after the series win.

BUMP!

"Mentally weak player" got hammered today under a slight bit of pressure. I dont think he will be able to recover out of it.

Lol funny hearing these keyboard warriors comments

A mentally weak player not going to score freely against some top attacks again and again even without a proper support from his own team members

He performed against india and now he's performing against ausis, two of the best sides in the world at the moment

Don't know what more a player can do to shut his blind criticises stop.I would better suggest them to watch more cricket
