The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 edition is about to begin in a few days. As the eight franchises are preparing hard and rectifying their flaws ahead of the tournament-opener, from September 19, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sourav Ganguly recently monitored the preparations of the three venues which will play host to all the games.

Interestingly, Sourav Ganguly chose to blur Pakistani cricketers' image in the background while sharing post on his recent Sharjah Stadium visit. Photo credits: Sourav Ganguly

Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah will host the entire IPL 2020 edition. During his visit to the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Ganguly seemed very impressed with the ground facilities and even shared a post from his official Instagram handle on Monday (September 14).

Ganguly took to his Instagram profile and captioned the post, "Famous Sharjah stadium all set to host IPL 2020"

However, what caught the attention of many was that Ganguly chose to blur an image comprising Pakistani cricketers' in the background. Reportedly, the picture blurred by the BCCI chief comprised the likes of former Pakistan great Javed Miandad, Rashid Latif, Misbah-ul-Haq, Azhar Mahmood, Danish Kaneria, etc. The reason to blur the image is still not known.

Sharjah has seen plenty of humdingers between India-Pakistan and many other cricketing nations in the past. It has also been a memorable ground for many stalwarts such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya, Shane Warne, Wasim Akram and the likes.

The relationship between the Indian and Pakistan cricket board hasn't been up to the mark since the political tension grew between both the neighbours. The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan was held back in early 2013 when the Misbah-led Men in Green toured India for a limited-overs series. Since then, both the teams only square off in multi-nation tournaments or ICC events.

Shifting focus to the IPL 2020 edition, this year's cash-rich league is expected to serve the needs of ardent cricket fans, who are desperate to see a big-ticket tournament since long. IPL 13 had been postponed twice in the wake of the novel coronavirus. Hence, it has been taken out of India and will be held entirely in the UAE.

Doesn’t want to get killed when he returns to India I suppose

Ganguly has always been very pro-Pakistan. Such a shame it has come down to this.

Surely they could have asked to take the photo from the other side if that banner was in the background? I guess it’s a clear indication of disgust for Pakistan, especially when he also suggested that the T20 wc should take place during Pakistan’s PSL window or something.

I wonder if thevm original picture is available anywhere?

Isn't that an ad? Its obvious why it would be blurred if its soemthing not sponsoring IPL

I would guess it's a sponsor thing, and therefore a legal requirement.

That's called avoiding a brand visibility. Brand displacement. Common sense. Oh well. Never mind.

Anyways good on Saurav, better to be safe than sorry. Considering the direction India is going with frequent news of people getting lynched or attacked for opposing the viewpoint of the ruling party then it makes sense that Saurav would blur out pics with Pakistanis.

Life is precious, and Ganguly is protecting his. Posting a picture including anything Pakistani is pretty much a death sentence in India.

He fired Sanjay Manjrekar because SM talked in support of minorities during Delhi riots/CAB protests. What else to expect. He's tarnished his cricketing legacy by becoming a BJP stooge.

It'd be always better read replies too before posting such nonsense..

Read the replies already, was there a specific post you were pointing to? It is known that India is a hotbed for terrorism against Muslims/Pakistanis so not surprising that Dada did what he did.

If OP is true then I am with Dada on this. He is a family man and for him safety of his loved ones is most important. :inti

Its the third pic in that list

Might be due to the Pepsi logo on the Pakistani shirts.

Success of Indian Cricket in the last 10-15 years has given many Indian players from the 80's and 90's an excuse to mock and diss Pakistan Cricket and its Cricketers. Don't be fooled by the occasional pro Pakistan statements on the Aaj forums and summits, deep down these players want Pakistan Cricket and Pakistani Cricketers to be subjugate to the BCCI and Indian Cricketers (Past and Present)

IPL brand is precious and hence no promotion of anyone or anything not related to IPL.

Sachin does this all the time. That is how a professional should go about things. Never give air time to anything which is not endorsed by you or the organization you represent. This is a very very normal thing in the modern world and I'm pretty sure most of the people who are acting otherwise in this thread also know about this concept.

Quit the victim mentality. There is a clear legal answer to this question put out by many posters above.

Posters whoa re blindly defending their country should understand you dont have to blur the whole pic to cover the pepsi logo, you can just blur the logo if it was about sponsors

Pakistanis beg it too much with Indians, yet Indians just want to blur us out.

I guess if he hadn't blurred it he would have got trolled by people from both sides of the border.

The photo could have been simply cropped but including it and then blurring it seems deliberate. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole photo board is removed during the IPL season citing 'Pepsi logo' as a reason and later on put back after IPL with apologies by Sharjah/UAE Cricket management. :)

This is really a non-issue and you know it.

Should have cropped it out or asked someone to photoshop it.

A bit unprofessional to post blurred pics.

It was about not promoting any entity nit related to IPL and BCCI. I guess nothing or no one in that pic is related to ipl or bcci.

Any reason why ipl and bcci will have pictures or photo boards of entities not associated with them?

Unnecessary issue...

Why do Pak cricketers want to be on BCCI president ka Instagram....

LOL came to post this. Shabby destroyed the small hearted, petty Ganguly. Before you tell me about product displacement, its absolute **. The post on Ganguly's instagram wasnt sponsored thus no such branding issues. Pure act out of his petty nature that he is showcasing in full force.

In the actual picture the Pepsi logo was so small that it would have been near invisible on Ganguly’s billboard. So blurring the entire billboard makes no sense whatsoever.

Btw if any posters even dares to say that it was done to hide pepsi logo, plz take alook at the seat designs of the stadium

Its a freaken pepsi logo

As I've already mentioned, some people just think the world revolves around them for some reason. I don't know why is it's so hard to realise that nobody cares and they're not half as important or relevant as they think they are.

Saurav was there to promote IPL's brand and he rightfully blurred the image of an international team which in itself is a brand just like any other sporting entity in the world. But alas, why let facts come in the way of the grumbling the hell out of your victim complexes and obvious insecurities ?

IPL promotion picture mai, kyon rakhega woh Pak players ka photo ?? ?

Pak fans start controversy over anything, it's similar to sarfaraz carrying drinks...

I really don't understand these insecurities. Why will the Bcci president promote pakistani cricketers during the IPL. And why will pakistanis get affected with it.

Complete non issue and i am saying this as Pakistani. We all have way more important things to discuss.
